Below is an email sent from a friend of mine, and the nasty response he received. I will never cast a shadow on the door of this place! Gentlemen, Last Saturday, I had finally made the decision to take my family to TWISTED ROOT after hearing glorious things about it and seeing it on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Being in the retail real estate business, we hear a lot about different restaurants that come to the Dallas area. With the limited time in our busy family schedule, I looked forward to spending my money with your establishment and hoped it would be a real “treat” for my kids. Late Saturday afternoon I attempted to round up my family to drive to your Richardson location from our North Carrollton home. With the kids feeling yucky and the cold weather that had set in, I decided to call-in my order and go pick it up, which I was willing to do because of the rave reviews I have heard around my office. Again, I was determined to spend my money at your restaurant even though the circumstances were less than ideal that evening. Upon placing my phone call (with order in hand, ready to go), I was told by your staff that they were “too busy to take my order”. Needless to say, I was shocked and amazed, considering how restaurants across the Metroplex are struggling for business, yet the TWISTED ROOT was not only busy, but too busy to take my order that only required writing it down - no table to set, no water to get, no setups to place……..Just take the order and slide it in line to be cooked, bag it and wait for my money. Seems like easy money to me. Well gentlemen, that was your one and only shot and this story will be told to every parent, potential patron & real estate broker I come in contact with from North McKinney to SW Fort Worth when the conversation turns to dinners plans. I am a former manager of a well-known establishment in West End, and if this were to happen in my restaurant, I would want to know about it; thus the reason for the email. Regards, GN The proprietors response: Yes, you are very right. It is very easy during busy times to make you and your kids to go items. We just didnt do it because we dont like making money. We hate success and making people happy. We enjoy turning down your money. Make sure you tell everyone that. With the amount of friends that an obviously polite and understanding person like yourself must have, Im sure we will be out of business in no time flat. May I help you in your to go needs and direct you to McDonalds or Chilis which will be very happy to assist in your very important needs. Jason Boso Proprietor/Chef/Togo food packer

I usually love Twisted Root. My family amd I travel to/through Dallas at least once a month and we always eat here. This last time there were some issues. We went for dinner at about 6:30 on a Monday. It was fairly busy, with about 12 people in line ahead of us. We ordered and paid and sat down to wait. After about 40 minutes, I saw the couple who was in line behind us pick up their food. I walked to the counter to find out why our meal was taking so long. I was told our order got lost and asked what we had. The man helping did not write the order down. About 10 minutes later our food was brought to us. The burgers were lukewarm and the fries were barely warm. However we ate it, because by this point my kids were very hungry. After bringing the last of our food, I was offered a complimentary shake for the mix up. I told him that I felt like we should be compensated what we spent on the meal. I also explained that I understand restaurant rushes and that these things happen, but that considering it took almost an hour to receive sub standard food (especially compared to what we usually get there) I felt it was right to receive my money back. He asked for my receipt and I realized I didnt ask for it and neither was it offered. He told me that he couldnt do a refund without a receipt and offered me a $25 gift card. Our meal was about $35.00 but I decided that the gift card was fair enough. We will return and would even without a gift card. I dont believe this experience was indicative of this restaurants overall quality, but some employees definitely dropped the ball this time. I will also make sure I get my receipt from now on.

I visited Twisted Root for the first time on 4th of July with a friend and it was an awesome place off the get go. Great atmosphere and amazing food. My friend and I were given Peter Pans name for our order which was cool but the cashier made everything super awkward for us. She stated after giving us Peter Pan "I love Peter Pan but there comes a time when playing with little boys becomes inappropriate". We thought it was funny, thought nothing of it. BUT then when our shake was ready she goes over the PA system and goes "Peter Pan your shake is ready! Also, its very inappropriate to be touching little boys at your age" This was at a busy time with lots of people eating and everybody sorta just stopped what they were doing and looked around to see who was going up there...I experienced the most awkward walk of my life to get that shake. I was stopped by a table and the man said "Yeah thats awkward man" and a family gave me the dirtiest looks Ive ever seen. Really, really upsetting. THEN when we get our food she says it AGAIN(not over the PA) in front of some people ordering and they kinda laugh it off like "WTF?". Im just like...Does this cashier have something against Peter Pan or have something little boys? Anyways, point is that the places was Awesome except for the Peter Pan comment, highly unprofessional and disrespectful.

I am on the fence as to whether Twisted Root deserves four or five stars. On the one hand, the burger options are incredible. Six or seven different types of animal burgers, several dozen different burger toppings, and a three or four different buns make the burger options limitless and delicious. The chipotle, guacamole, and cheddar burger topped with fried onions was heavenly. The fact that they brew their own tasty root beer is another great aspect. On the other hand, the place was so busy that I literally got the last seat in the building after I placed my order, but more importantly... the fried pickles. I was quite happy to see that they even offered this succulent treat, and - as I have a standing agreement with myself to never pass up an opportunity to try a fried pickle - I simply had to order them. Unfortunately the things were incredibly salty. So much so that I couldnt finish the little bites of heaven. Its not hard to grasp that you have to rinse the pickles before frying, and - with the owners being culinary school grads - I would prefer to chalk this up to a one-time mistake. In the end, theres simply too much good going down at Twisted Root to give them anything but five stars. When my burger came to an end, I was stuffed and covered in chipotle sauce, but man, was I satisfied.
