Went here with my friend and the waitress was this huge mexican lady that could NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. It was very frustrating in trying to get her to understand what we were ordering. I had to repeat everything about three times and she still didnt understand. When the food arrived, it was along the lines of what you would get at Taco Bell. When the bill arrived, we found the waitress had charged us $3.79 twice for two orders of gaucamole salads and also $1.40 for a taco salad. When we had placed the order, my friend had said she just wanted a small spoonful of gaucamole and the waitress had said this would be fifty cents. I had not ordered any guacamole at all and we did not order a taco salad. I went up front to complain the the manager who was also mexican, and she got very defensive when I told her that the waitress could not speak English. After arguing with her for about five minutes, she finally agreed to just charge us fifty cents for the gaucamole that my date ordered. She refused to remove the charge for the taco salad even though we did not order nor receive this. The waitress had given my friend a very small plate w/some stips of lettuce on it that we thought came with her enchilada order. I suppose this was the “taco salad” that we were being charged for but never ordered. I went back the table where my friend was waiting and the waitress came up to our table and started arguing with me in front of everyone. The manager had told her what I had said and the waitress was now making a big scene about it. I asked her to leave which she finally did. I am going to be filing a complaint with the corporate office about the treatment we received and would advise everyone to stay away from this El Fenix in Addison. Everyone there including the manager speaks only broken English.

El Fenix was known for 50+ years for having great Margaritas and chips, with mediocre and cheap food. The "queso" has always been known as the worst in town. Their new "fire roasted" queso is a step up, but still not as good as the Velveeta cheese queso one makes at home knowing its not great -- just a Sunday afternoon dip. The worst part about the experience is that the new corporate owners dont know they bought a pig that we liked as a pig. The same old low-quality dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids was now $85.00. This is LOW QUALITY food. The meat has about 35% water content to make it go "farther". The cheese sauce is something like dehydrated cheese particles mixed with water. The whole point of going was always knowing it was a mediocre but very cheap meal. The waiter never opened his mouth without trying to upsell me at every moment. "Hi, Im ready for the check and 2 to-go containers, please". Response, "We have wonderful sopapillas, Are you ready for them?" I felt like we were bamboozled into paying about 40% more than the food was worth, while being assaulted by a used-car-salesman masquerading as a waiter throughout the dinner. The carpet was filthy, the table cloth was plastic, and the table top was a scratched acrylic sheet. In sum: theyre trying to put an expensive dress on a pig. We liked the pig as it was. This concept will fail.

This rating is strictly based on the drinks. After reading reviews I found out this probably isnt a great place to dine at, but winning best margaritas in town 3x in a row since 2010 got me to visit. As I made it up there I was nervous, seeing a huge parking lot that was empty my thoughts were either they are closed (shut down) or just really not a good place to eat. But going in, I located the bar and asked for last years Margarita winner but no. They didnt have it so I just asked for the best Margarita up to date and that was called 1918 something..... Boy o boy. It was good and as soon as I left I have to say, bad move. It hit me so hard. Thats a good and bad thing. If I knew I would of stayed a while and not get caught driving, especially in addison. Drinks were awesome restaurant was bland but I didnt stay long so I dont care. If you want a great drink I recommend this place for that and for that only.

Will NEVER come here again. Customer service is a big deal to me since most companies these days lack greatly in this area & I felt looked over as a 1st time customer to this restaurant. I walked in alone & directly to the podium to wait for someone to seat me. A waiter walks directly past me to seat a couple of men that had walked in the door 15 seconds after me! If i hadnt been meeting friends who really wanted to eat here I wouldve left. Luckily another waiter came (I believe her name was Maria) & apologized & seated me right away. She was great but the initial lack of service & food wasnt good enough for me to come back.

I have been a regular weekly customer of Addison location since 1993. Service and food used to almost always be great but some of the best wait-staff recently left and now some of the recipes for favorites like the beef chimichanga have been cheapened to use inferior terrible-tasting meat which is not even cooked on site. While being long-standing regular customers for a great many years, the wait-staff and management (many are new) do not recognize us and the place has lost much of its comfortable charm so we have mostly stopped eating here. Nobody seems to care.

This is one of the BEST of the brand. You cant go wrong here. I recommend the enchiladas and the margaritas on the rocks. Theres also a great Wednesday special. Theyre always busy, but rarely on a wait. Even though they are handicap accessible, they usually dont have spaces available. If youre looking for someplace where you can get a great meal, good service, not feel rushed, and be back at work in under an hour (or you want to meet for a quick first date), this is the perfect place.

We had the pleasure of having El Fenix in Addison cater our wedding. They arrived and set up promtly, provided great service to our guests, and were perfect for our small budget. Benito, the manager who organized everything, was extremely accommodating and helpful throughout the entire process. Our guests couldnt stop raving about how delicious everything was. Now, El Fenix isnt just one of our favorite local restaurants, but a business I would recommend to anyone hosting an event.

Yet another incredibly bland Mexican food or "Tex mex" joint. You know its gonna be bland when you walk in and almost all of the other patrons are 60+. I suppose if you have a heart condition and need to stay away from salt in your diet then this may be a good choice since they clearly dont use salt. If you dont have issues with salt then Go down the street to blue mesa if you want some actually flavorful Tex mex, albeit a bit wacky with the fusion.

While the service was excellent, the manager walking around didnt even wait for us to complete our sentence when asked how everything was before lazily turning away and drifting off to the next table. The rancheras entrees lacked any discernible difference between "supreme" and normal except for some onions rings tossed on top, not to mention the dish was clearly not fajitas rancheras.
