Im giving two stars because its not a corporate chain, and the servers were quite friendly. However, that being said and with the fact that I love small places like this in mind. The food was absolutely terrible. Over battered and fried everything, bland, unseasoned, and just generally bad all around. Im a cook and have been a sous chef at a 5 star restaurant and its apparent whoever is doing the cooking in back has no clue what theyre doing most likely havent been trained or attended culinary school. Claims that everything is fresh here is a joke..... maybe fresh out of a can or freezer. Sorry to be so blatant in my criticism, however I loathe when people open restaurants like this one and forget the key ingredient.... good food. To top it off I felt like I was sitting in a bingo hall, terrible flourecent lighting makes you feel like your in line at the hospital waiting for a badly need vaccine. I guess if you walk into a place filled with senior citizens you should know right away what the food quality is like.. just walk into a Lubys. Sorry but will never return here, had hopes and they were shot down :(

A large group of us decided on Whistle Stop Cafe for an early lunch. It was not busy as it was just 11:00, but it filled up fast. When we left at 12:00, all the tables were full. The specials were all you can eat catfish, hush puppies, fries and coleslaw for $10.99 and chicken fried steak with two sides and Texas toast for $7.99. Many of us chose the chicken fried steak. My sides were mashed potatoes and fried okra. The potatoes were homemade and the fried okra was some of the best I have had. The chicken fried steak was hand battered and a nice size. We all finished our plates. The service was exceptional. The wait staff was busy, but friendly and checked on us several times filling drinks and making sure we did not need anything else. We were too full to get desserts, but she spoke of homemade coconut cream and chocolate cream pie. Pecan cobbler with ice cream! Sounds great! Awesome job Whistle Stop Cafe! I got a pat on the back for recommending a new place to eat in Conroe.

Ive always been a great fan of the place. Good food and nice people. I like the fact that its a family thing. BUT I will never go back. I got a chicken fried chicken (which used to be my favorite at the cafe) the other day. It was under cooked. Oh well mistakes happens so I merely pointed it out to the owner. He said he would get me another one and would keep my sides warm (instead of making new ones???). But the waitress just put them on a new plate and placed them in front of me. 20 minutes later when my sides were cold I got a new chicken fried chicken. Very obviously VERY over cooked. Plus the people in the kitchen apparently got upset with a complaint so they put all kind of weird stuff in the batter. It was freaking disgusting. And they still charged us for the full amount. Used to be great .... now stay away

Have gotten to go orders at least 3 times and every time something has been wrong. Gave them multiple chances because they were new. The first time, I got an open roast beef sandwich with french fries and it came with mashed potatoes and no gravy, and the roast beef was dry and almost inedible. The second time we ordered a BLT and we received a grilled cheese. This last and FINAL time we ordered two hamburgers, one with mayo, mushrooms and lettuce and one with mustard and pickles. We received a burger with mustard and mushrooms and one with mayo and wilted lettuce that looked like they dug it out of a trash can. One of the burgers was RARE - could not even eat it. It appears they have nothing but young kids running the place that really dont care about service or quality.

Good points:The food was okay. The prices were decent. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was pleasant. I had chicken fried chicken and the gravy hit it off. The chocolate chip waffles looked amazing, though I did not try them. My niece ate them and was very happy with them. Needs improvement: The service was a little slow. My nephew was not impressed with their chicken fried steak. My daughter didnt like the mashed potatoes. There wasnt much seasoning on the okra. I took home a chicken fried steak and the person eating it complained it was very chewy and rubbery.

Colton was our waiter and Austin was the other waiter. Both of them had really great manners and did an awesome job. There steak was the best steak Ive ever had. They blow other steak houses out of the water. They open the door for you when leaving. Coming from waiting tables I know the importance of food and all around great service. These two did an awesome job the Manger should be very proud to have such good hard working men.

This has become a favorite of my friends and I for lunch on Friday. They dont disappoint with the regular items and their fish fry is EXCELLENT. Quick with the refills and food, you dont wait long and weve never had an issue with food arriving late. The wait staff seems to all understand how to help each other. GREAT place.

I ate there with my family on 8/30/16 for breakfast only one other table had people food took a long time coming only to be cold and poor quality waitress was pretty indifferent, price was very high for the quality and quantity would never eat there again. Suggest to others not to waste their time and money

Second and last time we will come here. Wife ordered fried pickles and pickles were almost too hard to eat. I ordered their "chicken fried steak special." Took three bites and was only able to chew one. The steak was nothing but fat. Only reason for 2 stars is the staff aint bad and the price.

My wife had the tuna sandwhich, side fries, was very good. I had chicken fried steak, side okra and green beans also very good. We shared coconut creme pie, all excellent. We sat where we wanted and everyone very friendly and attentive. We did all food for $25.00. We were very happy with all.

The patty melt was good, fries were a little soggy, tea was old and sour. It also took about 20 minutes to get my food even tho there was only me and 1 other person in here. The fluorescent lighting kills the atmosphere, as well as the cell phone pictures of food in the menu.

The food can be hit or miss. For instance, sometimes the biscuits and gravy are great while other times you need a hammer and chisel to get through it. The service is always excellent. Youll most likely lose reception on your mobile while here, even by the window.

First time here and I got the chicken strip basket w/onion rings and toast. The chicken was very juicy with a nice flavor and the onion rings were delicious. Came here very hungry and left very full and satisfied. Great prices as well. The service was good too

The service is always good but the food is unpredictable. My sister got food poisoning and my chicken fried steak was bad and was afraid to eat it so they didnt charge me for my dinner. I use to love eating there but unfortunately dont want to take a chance.
