Poor service but with a smile. Chips are weird. They are honey BBQ chips. That is all that they have. Some people love those. We did not and they dont just have normal tortilla chips. We ordered queso and felt normal tortilla chips would have been much better. This could just be personal choice and not much of a deal breaker. However... This is NOT a place for vegetarians. The enchiladas and probably most other items are all premade in the morning and reheated for the dinner service. This means that they cannot make a simple cheese enchilada. They only reheat what is on the menu. This left three items on the menu for vegetarians. We had the simple kids quesadilla. They did have another vegetarian quesadilla available but that was about it for vegetarian options. I am not sure if they are fried with other items that have meat or what, but both my fiance and I got sick after eating it. My poor fiance threw up as soon as we got home. The service outside was terrible. I am not sure if the beginning waiters are sent outside. Us and everyone else outside had terrible service. The normal soda drinks are $3 and you have to catch someones attention for a refill. I got my coke refilled once even though it was empty and sitting for a while twice. My fiances tea was never refilled. They dont bring silverware or napkins out when you are seated. We had an appetizer of queso and asked once or twice for napkins. We didnt get napkins until our meal with a different waiter. Our experience was better than other families sitting outside though. There was a table of ladies behind us that was seated in the middle of our meal and after 15 minutes of not being greeted they went and found a manager. The manager took their drink order. Unfortunately for them we never saw them receive their drinks while we finished and paid. Now for the good parts. The queso was excellent. It is very expensive for queso at $9 but high quality. Again, I think regular chips should have been available for the queso instead of honey BBQ chips. Also, the classic burger was very good. We had a bad experience here but I am sure this is a great place for certain people. The particulars that one needs to keep in mind when choosing to eat here are: The chips are honey BBQ The enchiladas (and most other items) are premade in the morning and reheated so you cant customize it Not a good place if vegetarian Slow service and impossible to get a napkin Pricy for Mexican food

First off, I will say this is NOT Mexican or Tex-Mex food; its amazing how this is missed. Canyon Cafe is a southwestern restaurant in the Quarry Market.. I must say it was an excellent meal, although the service was unenthusiastic and error-prone. If it matters, the presentation of the food is among the best Ive seen. First, Ill begin with the chips and salsa. The salsa was quite good although nothing extraordinary. What was extraordinary, however, were the chips. In particular, in the bowl of assorted chips, there is a puffy chip that is covered in SW spices that I simply couldnt get enough of. One of the entrees we ordered was the bison meatloaf. Although it was overly dry, the flavors were outstanding with the smokey bison meat being the predominate taste. The mash potatoes and vegetables were good as well. The other entree we ordered had the following: pork carnitas, Panchos Enchiladas, guacamole, southwest rice, and tossed salad greens. The salad was fresh and the dressing tasty. The rice was adequately moist and full of flavor. The Panchos Enchiladas were stuffed with chicken and cheese and covered in a three pepper cream sauce. While absolutely delicious, parts of the enchiladas (the tortilla anyway) were dried out but luckily the taste wasnt affected too much. The pork carnitas were absolutely delicious - no frills, no spice, just good pork cooked in its own fat. It would have only been better if they had caramelized the outside of the meat before serving. All in all, Canyon Cafe served good food packed with interesting flavors at a decent price. Its not Mexican or Tex-Mex, but its not suppose to be. I really enjoyed this place for what it is - great Southwestern food.

Was with some friends and family on a Friday evening. Havent been here in a few years as my first experience wasnt a good one, but decided to give it a try again. Ordered a margarita, no salt and it arrived with salt. Server was very gracious and apologized, but when it came back just a few minutes later, it was obvious the drink was just dumped into another glass, salt and all. I guess the bartender thought I wouldnt notice? Our table wanted to start with an order of the queso but it seemed it only came with artichoke blended in, which our server insisted was quite good. We all agreed the artichoke gave the queso an odd aftertaste, so we were disappointed that we couldnt get just plain queso without the artichoke. Ordering our entrees, a friend and I ordered the beef fajitas, only to have the chicken fajitas brought out instead. Decided to not return mine as I didnt want my food to come out when everyone was finishing their meals. Both my chicken fajita plate and my friends beef fajita plate, we agree, had a unusual sweet flavor (sugar?) which flavored the meat as well as the beans and rice. The server was very nice and apologized for our food and drink issues, but this second try at Canyon Cafe will be my last.

Best place in Texas went a month ago. Wait staff was friendly and very attentive, are waiters named was "Luis" he seemed to know what we wanted when we wanted it and his table side manner was excellent. Food was delicious and well priced with good portion size. The menu is standard texmex cuisine but what stands out is their use of fresh ingredients (the guacamole was made right by our table). went back a couple days ago we asked to be seated in Luis section because of the great experience we had the last time but we were told he was no longer working there ( =[ ). are waitress didnt know much about the menu, we got the adovo pasta and the apple salmon and it was not what we expected since we had it before, plates were very dry and no flavor . i did not had a good second experience but were willing to go back to give it another chance

I love their poblano chowder. It is amazing. Last year when I was sick and I was recovering that was all I craved and I would either come here to eat it or send someone to pick it up. What is in the Quarry and they were saying that a lot of stuff on the walls was originally from the business that used to be. I cant remember what that was but you could probably ask the server. I also came one time with a group of 20 for a lunch for work and the food was really good and the service was really good. I also want to add that their chips are amazing. The chips have some sort of chili powder on some of them and some of them have like a sweet brown sugar type powder and its super amazing. They also have some sweet potato chips mixed in which I thought was unique. I dont really remember this also I just remember the chips.
