We stumbled onto this place about a month ago and intentionally drove 40 miles specifically to get here, one recent evening, arriving at 9PM. This place is really something special. There is a common Tex Mex fare, and this is out of that norm. There is just something special about the size (small, just a little bigger than coy), decor, menu, and service that really appeals to me and their hours are wonderful. Ive lived in Canyon Lake; there are other places that are pretty good, but this El Charro is in a class by itself. The fired tilapia (Mojarro) is excellent, if you like that dish. So is their salsa. Sorry, no cerveca.

My wife and I ate here for lunch and we thought it was okay. The food was not as good as I was hoping it would be based on reviews I had read here, but their portions are very large, so we got great value as we were able to take some home with us. It is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place with very friendly people. They do have an outdoor seating area, but we were unable to take advantage of it due to a heavy thunderstorm that morning.

Good service, great food! The salsa was very tasty and the food was top notch. Its where the locals eat and thats usually a good indication of how good a place is. As we were eating, 3 police officers came in and ate and it was obvious they were regulars. We were just passing through Blanco but if we are ever in the area again, we will stop here again. We may even go have breakfast there in the morning.

This is the second time we have visited this restaurant while passing through on a vacation or a day getaway. This last time we were running late and barely made it before they closed, but they still made us great food and provided great service. You cant beat the prices or portion size! I would recommend this place to anyone!

A hidden gem. Delicious food and lots of it. Stayed in Blanco two nights and ended up here both nights because the wait at another restaurant was long. Tried something different both nights and amazing both times.

I dont know why there are such good reviews. That was the worst mexican food Ive ever had. Nothing was made from scratch, and it all tasted terrible. Im actually angry that we wasted money on this place.

I can certainly get down with some messy texmex, but even with a hangover, this place is sub-par. I had the chili con queso w/ carne and the beef enchilada plate-- it just wasnt very good.

Had heard from friends that this restaurant was pretty good. I had my reservations, but was pleasantly surprised! I had the shrimp a la Mexicana and it was wonderful!! Give it a try!
