Hat Creek is certainly a unique burger joint even for Austin standards. First off, their building is very eye-catching and not something you would see everywhere. The building is styled like a new age farm house. The exterior is very rustic and salt of the earth styled and the shape is very simple. You wouldnt bat an eye if you saw this in a traditional rural community, that is of course until you see the section of the building that was cut out and replaced with an outdoor play ground for kids. In the spirit of the giant missing section of the farm house, the interior has a very open concept that lets the outside air come in freely. Now as for the food, the real reason you came by. They serve up some very decent home cooked styled burgers. I had their Big Hat, which is a double patty burger, their fresh cut fries, and their mint chocolate shake. Their burgers were a good size, probably 1/3 lb, their fries were fresh from the fryers, and their shake was certainly sweet. It was strange, despite having more natural ingredients for all of their food, their shakes seemed out of place with their use of syrups and candy. One thing I really liked about this place were their sauces. They have a sauce section where you can use 3 of their mixed sauces, one being a combo of mustard and ketchup, another being mayo and ketchup, and then a third which I cant recall because it was missing on my visit. If youre the type who loves to combine sauces to eat with their fries/burgers, you would like what they have to offer here. Another unique twist to this burger joint over others is the fact that they serve breakfast. While I havent tried it yet, it certainly is intriguing to see what they have to offer in the morning.

I would consider myself a cheeseburger aficionado and I highly recommend Hat Creek Burgers. For local Austinites, it has the feel of Mighty Fine Burgers when you enter the place. It has a similar decor and atmosphere but the food is MUCH better. The place is clean and the service was fast and friendly. The menu is a little misleading. They have Big Hat Burgers and Little Hat Burgers on the menu. I automatically assumed Little Hat Burgers were small kids hamburgers. I was wrong. I ordered the Big Hat Burger and is comes out with 2 patties on it. Each patty is 3.2 ounces. Of course I ordered it with cheese. It had cheese between the patties as well as on top. It had so much cheese, it was dripping down the side (this is a GOOD thing). It comes with the standard fixings but you can add on specialty items like bacon. The cheeseburger was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The fries were also amazing. I would have to say they blew Mighty Fine Burgers out of the water and that is hard to do.

Since the interior of this place is so dirty and grimy (look at the walls the next time you are in there) (oh and do not even think about going in the rest room unless you have had a hepatitis shot), I called in an order to go since I live across the street. "hello, thank you for calling Hat Creek, this is Michael". Me, "hi Michael, Id like to place an order to go please". Michael.."ummmm, we dont accept phone orders at this location". Me.."you mean to tell me that if I live across the street and will be there in 5 minutes, you will not take my order?" Michael.."no". Me.."why?". Michael "ummmmm..thats our store policy". You have got to be kidding me! You are going to make me come over there and stand in your filth longer than I have to to get a fairly good burger? Hell NO! At least the guys are Roll On Sushi know how to run a business. Sushi it is. Probably a better choice anyway. Ill Never go to Hat Creek again....EVER!

I have to admit this. I like Arbys. Since I was a kid my mom would take me to the one by Westgate Mall. Is that so wrong? So when Arbys left Burnet Road it was a sad moment for me, although yeah, they had some winners working there in the end. So then Hat Creek showed up. I thought wow, they are using the big Hat sign. Well little did I know they were a trailer place, and already had that name. Had they been planning this all along? Did they kill Arbies to take over the hat? The burger is pretty good, as are the frys. Ill grab a turkey burger too from time to time. The choice of cheese is cool, and of course jalapenos. I notice they also added salads and my wife and kiddos love the cheese sandwich. I can easily spend 30 bucks plus though, they are a bit expensive especially compared to Pterrys, but good, and convenient none the less.

Hat Creek is the best fast food in Austin! Their turkey burgers are amazing! And the fries are thin and crispy…but not too crispy. Customer service is FANTASTIC. The whole staff here is very friendly and helpful! They are now serving breakfast too! I love going to get a breakfast taco in a bowl (which is a scrambled egg)! You get two toppings on it and they are all so good! The avocado is literally slices of avocado…which is strange to find at a fast food restaurant. They also recently renovated and now have a play area for kiddos. So you can come here for dinner. Bring your kids, have a delicious meal, maybe a beer or a shake and hang out while they play! It is so nice!

While a perfectly fine location for burgers and fries, theres not much to set this eatery apart from someplace like P Terrys. They pride themselves in locally grown and naturally raised products, which is admirable. They offer the same burgers, fries and shakes as other local drive-thru restaurants, although they have some more original items such as turkey burgers and salads. Weirdly the thing that sets them apart for me is that they throw in little to-go containers of ketchup, which is something you wouldnt necessarily think of but is still super convenient.

While waiting on my skinny Turkey Burger at the drive-thru window, I saw the cook playing with my sandwich (holding it over the trash can, swinging it around the kitchen, basically putting on a show for his fellow employees). When he put the burger in the bag and handed it to the cashier, I informed him that I wanted a refund. The manager came to the window and offered me a few things: I refused the FREE sandwich, I refused the offer to make a new sandwich, and I also refused a $10 gift card. I will NEVER go back to Hat Creek Burger Co. again!

This place is awesome! We just moved across the street from the Burnet Road location and Im delighted to be this close to a place with great "fast food". No more McDonalds for us! The people working here are so friendly which just makes it all that much better. The fries are phenomenal, definitely check out their four unique sauces. I still cant decide which one is my favorite. But oh my god...their specials!! Tuesday, half-off burgers 5-9, Thursdays, an *unbelievable* beer special 5-9.

Just happened by this hamburger place. I am glad I did. Its definitely a do over. Speaking of which, my order was not correct. Disappointed, for less than a new York minute, snap my correct order arrived. Now thats awesome customer service. So glad the decision was made to eat an early lunch her. The dining room is clean and colorful. Theres and out seating area as well. A slide for the kiddos. Dont forget to have a milkshake with your burgers and fries.
