Until fairly recently, good Indian food in Austin has been a mainly north-of-the-river affair. Bombay Bistro was a welcome addition to the southern culinary landscape, and theres always Tarka for a more fast food-ish experience, but I was pleased to learn that there was another fairly new Indian place convenient for sureños like me. Asiana seems to focus mostly on South Indian cuisine, but theres a decent amount of North Indian food as well. The restaurant itself is no-frills: tucked away in that slightly dingy strip mall at the SW corner of William Cannon and I-35, its obvious when you walk in that its meant for large-scale food ingestion and not, say, for a first date. I personally was there for the lunch buffet ($8.99, 11am - 2pm every day but Monday and a bit longer on weekends) so I cant comment on the actual meals, but if theyre anything like the buffet you cant go wrong. At 11:45am on a Wednesday I loaded up! I had their kadai chicken (fairly spicy, with tomato, onion, and peppers), chicken tikka (excellent, on the creamy side), chili chicken (small chunks, not as spicy as Id hoped), tandoori chicken (just as infuriatingly dry as it is everywhere else, but well-grilled with a good flavor), and goat biryani (solid all around). Theres vegetarian options too, but life is too short to waste time on not eating food, especially when the real food is so good. I could have used more spice, but you can always kick it up a notch on your own. For sides, they had stuff like saag paneer (a slightly spicy equivalent of spinach cheese dip), lentil donuts, peppers fried in a cornbread-ish coating, naan thats somewhat on the thin and crispy side, your basic assortments of rices, and some chutneys and the like. Dessert was oddly sparse, with only some fruit, rice pudding, and milk balls in syrup, but all were good. One thing I do want to comment on is the service. Youre supposed to walk right in, grab a plate, and go to town on the buffet, and then wander up to the register to pay when youre too stuffed, so the place is fairly hands-off when it comes to getting between you and your meal, but they have some of the most diligent water-refillers Ive ever seen. Barely before my glass hit the table, the dude with the pitcher would be there pouring more. It was almost funny after a while. Anyway, this was not only surprisingly good, but decently priced, and close to both my home and work. Yet another reason you dont need to go north of the river for good food.

I had a hankering for some good Indian food the other day and I recalled that Asiana was on the Statesmans Top 50 Local Austin Restaurants. William Cannon is further south than I generally like to travel but when you get a hankering, distance makes no difference. Upon arrival I was greeted by an older Indian gentleman with a very authentic mo (if you have ever been to India you know what I mean). First thing that cued me in that this place was different was the authentic Tamil music; I heard songs that my mom used to play when I was a wee lad. As for the food I ordered the Lamb Hyderbadi and the Chicken Chettinad. The sauces in both dishes were phenomenal; southern Indian food often involves multiple aromatic spices that must be freshly prepared in order to properly impart the flavor. Compare this to a place like Clay Pit or GRaj Mahal where many different dishes end up tasting mostly the same because of the same base of spices used in their preparation. The only complaint I can offer is the lamb was a little less tender than I would have liked, but thats a personal preference. The dishes came with basmati rice (like crack!) and I also ordered naan with green chiles and paratha. Both of the breads served as the perfect compliment to the spicy entrees of meat. Highly recommend this location to anyone looking for authentic southern Indian food

BAD customer service and treating people rudely!! I am a frequent customer and I go there for the Bryani, but today the restaurant was so crowded and they seem to have lost control but I was ok with that! I had filled half plate of Bryani and it wasnt good at all!! So I couldnt finish it! The manger came in to pick up the plate and he started disrespectfully complaining that I wasted food in very rude way!!!! He should have instead asked if theres anything wrong with the food rather than complaining in a rude way! I am very disappointed! Never going there again and never recommending it to anybody!! Thy need classes in customer service and how to speak to customers!!

My family and I have been going to Asiana Indian Cuisine approximately twice a month and we have always, always received excellent tasty food and service. This food is absolutly the most delicious and healthy food. I live 35 miles away from this resturant but still the taste of food and the great staff makes us to drive every alternative week. The food is amazing!!!!! I love butter chicken, Naan, Veg.Biriyani, gravy etc.......all the food is mouth watering. The price is also cheap when you compare with other Indian resturants in Austin.. This is the one and only best Indian resturant in Austin. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!

Love, love, LOVE the food at Asiana! So fresh and tasty. I walk in and my mouth starts to water, yep its that good. The owner and head chef, used to own Cholas in Round Rock, and this is his new place. I gladly drive from way up north, battle traffic for this goodness! The lunch buffet is only $8.95, has soups, naan, curries, veg, tikka masala, tandori chicken, chutney, sauces, dessert, and much more. Dinner is just as Delish, but is not a buffet. Try them out, for reals, its that great! Place is clean, minimally decorated, but the servers are very friendly and the food will have you dreaming of saffron and other spices!

Best indian food in austin. Heavy on the South Indian stuff which I love. Buffet has more options than most and there are always two desserts to choose from. The staff is attentive, warm, and friendly. We almost always go for the buffet, but if you want to order off the menu, get the thali. For $25 you get a variety of dishes and the portions are so generous it will feed several people and probably leave you with lunch to take to work the next day! Anyone who wants to experience authentic Indian food at a reasonable price should do themselves a favor and stop in to sample their buffet!

Asiana is now one of my favorite take out places (although weve also eaten inside the restaurant, and that was lovely too). An order of saag paneer and naan is the perfect meal to split for two--the portion sizes are generous and the flavors are on point. Thus far everything we have tried on the menu has been delicious and very fairly priced for the portion size and flavor. I am personally partial to all of their dishes that involve paneer. The paneer kulcha and saag paneer are definitely some of my favorite menu items thus far.

Really good Indian food. Its legit. Just about every dish was uniquely terrific. Easier to say what I didnt like. Milk balls were too dry and chili chicken was dull. Everything else was delicious. Eggplant, lentil soup (with a lentil donut to dip), Tikka Masala, tandoori chicken, and paneer were exceptional. Also had good gobi manchuri, but not the best Ive had. Not a huge bryani fan, but that was really good too. Good service. I wasnt bothered by the interior, unlike other reviews. Come on Sundays.
