My wife and I came to Mellow Mushroom as a business owners and as customers. I understand the difficulties of management and I can forsee that any inexperienced manager can (and probably would) cave under the pressure, considering the volume of customers in attendance on my night. That being said, the staff and management were very organized. I was never bothered by annoying waiters or waitresses, and that is important to me on date night. We were seated in a secluded area, but not far from the bar, so that was courteous. As with any upscale restaurant in central Arlington that has been established anytime in the past 3 years, you can expect higher priced food, and that alone would get a 3.9 star rating or so from me. Not quite 4, but also not deserving of a 3 star rating, because its obvious that these pizzas and hoagies are more crafted than they are put together, which I applaud. The reason I gave this establishment a 5 star rating instead of a lower one, is because our level of customer service made my wife and I look at each other and say "That is exactly how I would have handled that." The issue with the pizza, if the reader is interesred is as follows: The pizza had an annoying trait to it. There was a concentration of a spice on the pizza which was unpleasant, and displeased my appetite. The jerk chicken Hoagie was awesome. I wish the bun was toasted, but i would expect that i should have asked for it while ordering. My fault for assuming. The bruschetta was olive oily, (plus for me) fresh and flavorful, and the feta was in no short supply. All in all, the food vs price was accurate in quality, but average in volume. I found myself only just satisfied with my level of fullness, which I would expect more for a $55 tab for two, but like I mentioned (and Im not done yet) the management was exceptional. It was easy to find the manager to express our experience thus far, explain what was wrong, and what we expected from the restaurant. Instead of just satisfying what we had asked for, management took it a step further. They had given us many choices of what could be done to rectify the issue, then discounted our tab. Thats not just service, thats caring for the customer. Dont have the takeout, youll miss out on the great personell. Wait for dinner, and get in there for good food.

Terrible experience here. My group of 4 arrived and was quoted a wait time of 45 min. This seemed reasonable on a Saturday night, but as we waited, we could see that a lot of tables were empty; there were three hosts on duty, and they just werent seating anyone. Ive been a host at a couple of restaurants, and I know there are sometimes good reasons for leaving tables empty--if the restaurant is short of servers or the kitchen is backed up, its better to have people wait a little longer at the front than to seat everyone and put extra pressure on the rest of the staff. This wasnt what was happening, though. I saw two servers actually come to the front and ask the hosts to fill their tables. I also saw a number of people seating themselves during a ten-minute period of time when all the hosts-- all three of them!--left the front of the restaurant unattended. Ultimately, we waited 40 minutes, and then our server came to the front, pointed out the numerous empty tables to the hosts, and then they finally seated us. Yes, our server had to ask the hosts to seat us! At that point, no one else was waiting, and there were at least four tables empty and clean. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, and then I returned to the front to get silverware, since the hosts didnt bring any when they seated us. The bar didnt have the beer my boyfriend wanted, and I had to send my drink back because the server forgot that I asked for no ice; the drink issues wouldnt even warrant a small complaint on their own, but compounded with everything else, theyre worth mentioning. After we ordered, we waited quite a while, and then they brought my moms calzone. It was clearly burned on top, and when she turned it over, it was like charcoal on the bottom (see the photo). She sent it back. Our pizzas came, and they were fine, but when they brought my moms re-made calzone, it was overcooked again. There were burned spots all over the top. Neither of those calzones should have even been brought to the table. To the restaurants credit, our server did send the manager to our table and he comped the calzone, but the service overall was abysmal. In all, we were at the place for almost two hours and were pretty miserable the whole time. Go to the Southlake location. Their service and food are way better.

Great food, terrible management. CJ the manager who has been there for years is doing a great job with running the business into the ground. Arriving at 5:45PM to beat the dinner rush or lack there of, since Babes overflows into the mellow lot every night. We opened the doors to find not one table sitting down eating, and a dumbfounded new potential employee dressed for success in shorts and a t-shirt for his interview sitting on the bench. Standing patiently we waited for a few minutes, started looking around for a worker and CJ the manager comes out of the kitchen to attend to his interview and leaves the customer standing at the front with a "Someone will be right with you", walks two feet around the corner in plain sight, and sits down to start his interview. Bewildered by the lack of incompetence of a "manager" to simply seat the standing customers anywhere in the EMPTY restaurant, I peeked over the ledge and asked "Anyone working today?" and he snidely replied "Someone will be right with you" and turned his head back toward the interview. Leaving the restaurant with disgust we told him thanks for nothing as we walked out the door just in time for a poor waitress to feel my wrath as she tried to scamper after us out the door as CJ sat there with his thumb up his ... Good luck with business bud.

We gave this place another chance, but it was just too gross not to review. The first time we went was for 4th of July fireworks. We sat outside, ordered a few drinks and a pizza. 3 adults, one child. We got two plates and zero utensils. We got the wrong pizza. Then we got the right pizza in the wrong size. Then we were given someone elses bill. Then they offered us a comp for drinks. It was put on the wrong bill. When we asked for the right bill, we were left waiting 20 minutes. We finally put $20 on the table and left; we were tired of waiting for the right order, waiting for plates that never came, asking to pay our bill and not being paid any attention to. Unfortunately, we tried again. My son and husband went for dinner. My son was given a fermented cup of orange juice that was so spoiled, it smelled foul. The manager comped 50% of pizza. Thankfully, my son is okay. Wrong pizza again. We really wanted to like this place, but serving rotten orange juice to a small child is just not okay. Its disgusting & a health violation. The manager blamed the bartenders for leaving juice out to spoil, then serving it.

Went on a Sunday night and sat at bar with boyfriend during NFL game. We were shocked because there were only 2 other people at the bar. Bartender takes my order and immediately turns around to enter it into system and then walks off never taking my boyfriends order. Finally I wave her down and she takes his order. My food comes out and Im about half done eating and he still has no food. She says she will check on his food. Instead, she walks off and goes and cleans up after the only other patrons that had just left. It is about 10 minutes before she checks on his food. He gets his food after Im done eating. Now I know why on a game night, there were only 2 other people in the entire bar. Also, I had the stuffed portobello mushroom. I did not like the vinegar canned artichokes stuffed in my mushroom. Would be much better with fresh cooked artichokes. He had a sandwich and it was good, but we will never go back.
