You know that thing parents tell their kids? "If you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything at all." I try to abide to that adage as often as possible, but sometimes you just have to say the bad stuff. My husband, son and I went to Spazo for dinner tonight. We arrived at 5:30 and were the only ones there. It was a quaint little place and we all had very high hopes. The server was prompt, friendly, and she seemed to know her stuff, so all signs pointed to a promising meal. We started out with the fried calamari appetizer. First of all, it was a very tiny portion for the cost. Were not the kind of people who want huge portions for little money, but we did feel the size was ridiculously small. Unfortunately, that was the best thing about it. It was gamey. Maybe gamey isnt the right word. It was fishy. I dont know if it was just fried in old fish oil or if it had been left out for too long, but it was the worst calamari weve ever ordered, flavor-wise. It was also the chewiest calamari weve ever ordered. At the risk of spinning wildly into hyperbole, it felt like chewing on rubber bands that had been soaked in a fish pond. Just not good. My son ordered the Italian sausage calzone, which was the winner for the night. The dough was soft yet crisp and the marinara was lovely. They were a bit shy on the sausage, but that seems to be fairly common. My husband ordered the spinach manicotti, but he was given (and they called it) cannelloni. That might be a Tomato / Tomahto type issue, but its worth mentioning. It was also a very small serving, though we appreciated that they were generous with the spinach. It had the same marinara sauce that the calzone had, and that was nice, but all in all, it was a bland dish. I ordered the lobster ravioli, and this was the big disappointment of the evening. I thought the portion size was fine (4 or 5 ravioli) and the color of the sauce was a very pretty pink. The pasta was over cooked and mushy, and the sauce was way too salty. I was also confused by the imitation crab meat that was mixed into the sauce. At first I thought it was tomato or maybe roasted red bell pepper, but once I realized it was imitation crab, it made me wonder if thats what was in the filling as well. My and my husbands meals each came with a small house salad. They were nothing to write home about. Mostly iceberg lettuce. Just meh. Our meals also came with rolls, though we wish they hadnt. They were so stale that they must have been left over from lunch. Heating them up and drenching them in olive oil didnt freshen them, it just made them oily and tough. In the end we spent $44 for a meal that was certainly no better than the lunch plates at Olive Garden. And two hours after eating, all of our bellies are very unhappy. Thankfully, its more of gastric distress unhappy and not a "I gotta go right NOW!" unhappy. Its a shame, because weve been wanting to try this place out since we moved to Plano a year ago.

I was unimpressed by Spazo Restaurant. I went for a New Years dinner with my boyfriend. We were greeted coming in the door and the service was timely and polite enough. We were unimpressed, however, by the food. We began with calamari and rolls which were both overcooked. The calamari was rubbery and the rolls were mostly burned on the bottom. Our salads were underwhelming as well. Iceburg lettuce, shredded carrots, a tomato wedge, and a pepperochini pepper. The Italian salad dressing was a nice pairing with the wine we had, but that was really the only saving grace. Our entrees (Chicken Sorentino and Linguini Pescatore) were decently cooked. However, the cheese on the Sorentino was sliced, not fresh and the shrimp on the Pescatore was overcooked. All-in-all, a decent experience, but we would probably try somewhere new before going back to Spazo.

My Wife and I have been going to Spazo since it opened. Fantastic food and service. Nice bar too! They always have unique and delicious specials. At every opportunity we have taken our friends and family there. True story: My father is a retired (very skeptical old world) Italian 1st generation born and bred in NJ. When my parents came to visit we took them to Spazo and even he commented how good the food and atmosphere was! Staff is sharp, well dressed, courteous and they know the menu. Atmosphere is perfect for a causal night out. The bar is fully stocked. Oh, and just like the bistros back in "Jersey" the owners are almost always there to greet you and will always strike up a conversation. Highly recommended.

Loving lunch at Spazos! My family and I have been there for dinner several times and now Im thrilled to have it as a nearby lunch option as well. I had the Chicken Marsala and salad and it didnt disappoint! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the marsala sauce is some of the best Ive ever tasted. When you order the salad, be sure to go with the house Italian - its the best! Our server was friendly and attentive and at the end of the meal she boxed up our leftovers and offered us a cup of handcrafted coffee. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal! Im craving pizza now, so Ill have to go get a pizza for lunch (when I dont have to share with the family) soon!

Had a lovely lunch at Spazo just the other day! My friend and I popped in there for lunch and had a great time. We started with the bruschetta, which was wonderful and the perfect size for an appetizer. I ordered a Chicken Caesar salad - I dont know what the chef did to the chicken but it was delicious! Topped it off with their creme brulee - chef finished it off table side for us. The coffee was amazing - seriously out does Starbucks! This is a great local place and from talking with our server, the new owners have a real American dream story. Id rather spend my money supporting that than Olive Garden, any day of the week. Looking forward to coming back!

Dear Hakuna Matata. I see you changed your review but you are still a lying clown hiding behind a Disney catch phrase. If youve ever even been to Spazo you would know the bathrooms are single user not multi stall. So how can you see that staff arent washing their hands? Are you now claiming to possess xray vision? Thats the only plausible explanation. Go troll someone else you clown. Spazo has a loyal customer base that knows you are nothing more that a pathetic jackass that apparently cant stand to see other people succeed. For everyone else, if you want good food and a nice clean atmosphere with friendly loyal people, come on down.

We just moved into the area... looking for a place for italian food... tried takeout pizza and spaghetti with meat sauce... both traveled well.. The spaghetti cooked just right and the sauce had a great balanced flavor without being over spiced with garlic or oregano like so many weve tried. The pizza had really nice and crispy crust obviosly made in house..really good sauce both flavor and amount of sauce. The quality toppings was good...only negative was that the toppings were a bit sparse which was the only reason for the 4 instead of 5. We will definitely give Spazo another try.
