I travel and I frequently tire of the homogenized banality of chain restaurants. Whenever possible I seek out the local gems where those who know congregate. What a joy it was this evening when, while driving along highway 70 just east of Dickson, TN, I chanced upon the Catfish Kitchen. You can tell right away that its my kind of place. The building isnt fancy and the parking lot isnt paved, but the lot was so full you would have thought it was bingo night at the VFW. I was greeted with a smile so warm and genuine that I immediately felt at home and forgot to be self conscious about dining alone. I skipped the menu, though it looked appealing. Instead I asked the waitress what she liked best and went from there. My "hot fillet" of farm-raised catfish arrived quickly with a side of the best hush puppies Ive ever eaten. "Homemade!" she said with a smile so warm and full of dimples that I felt like I had just been invited to marry into the family. The double fillet of catfish was tender to a fault and so mild it could have been wild-caught Alaskan Pollock. The breading was crispy and light, with just a touch of spicy heat. The fries were home-cut and delicious. If you are anywhere near the west side of Nashville, this little gem is worth the drive. If the lot out front is full, drive down behind and park out back. If its still light outside, ask for a table along the back where you can look out over some beautiful, tree-lined lakes. Youll soon find out why this place is a local favorite. The food is delicious, served with a double helping of southern charm, and it wont put hardly a dent in your wallet. Enjoy!

Great place, clean, really friendly staff, and great food all around. Catfish is up with some of the best Ive eaten. The white beans are amazing, not sure what the secret is. Still havent tried the quail although Ive heard its very good. I drive a long way out of my way each time Im in the area just to eat here. If your looking for a place to eat and are near by I would recommend stopping in. Only complaint is the weekday hours, I wish they opened up for lunch.

The catfish the seafood is amazing the service the staff everything was fabulous it was crowded you couldnt tell him because the service and the food was delivered so quickly cooked to perfection it was a wonderful experience and their desserts their homemade if its a wonderful time definitely come out you wont regret it the hush puppies at the secret weapon theyre amazing Catfish Kitchen if I was a catfish I wouldnt mind going in there

Catfish and quail.....you have my attention...could smell the fabulous food going 55 mph past the restaurant .....had to make a u turn....such a bountiful feast....great potion sizes had me breathing heavy...no hurry here....plenty of time to indulge for my 12 mule team appetite. Such a friendly staff and service was amazing....catfish dreams do come true folks...

Horrible! Fish was so hard you couldnt cut it with a fork. No flavor. Food tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. We are not from the area, so all we had to go on were the other reviews. Cashier ask me how food was and when I told her it was horrible she acted as if so could care less. Waste of our money. Think twice before visiting.

Excellent food, and great service! Highly recommend the "hot" catfish, white beans, mayo cole slaw, and hush puppies. The restaurant was clean, and tidy, and the service was attentive and spot on.

VERY VERY HOT inside restaurant. Owner turns air conditioner off at night and turns back on when staff comes it. Restaurant opens at 4pm. Service excellent. Food excellent.. people perspiring.

I like the food here. One of the handful of places where I eat the hush puppies. Im not a big hush puppy fan, but I like theirs. They have good shrimp too.
