Ok maybe we have been spoiled by the quality of the Italian restaurants in NYC and northern NJ. For us Stellini just did not live up to its hype. Located on a loop off of Pope Ave. It wasnt hard to find if you Google the address. As suggested in their advertisement we called for a reservation for our group of nine, 5 adults, 2 teen girls, and 2 pre-teen girls. Our table was ready when we arrived. The restaurant is small and was already crowded with several large family groups. The decor was 60s Italian Restaurant. Dark but enough light to see the table. One thing that really irks me at a restaurant is wobbly tables. There is no reason why an establishment cant insure stable tables and chairs. The wobbly table should have been a clue as to the quality of the rest of the service. Our waiter was gruff and surly, slamming down drinks and plates, responding to a request for water as if we just asked for his right arm. If he was trying to imitate waiters in NYC he missed the mark. In NYC they may be gruff, but they know their stuff and realize that the patron is king. Just to finish up on the service, a rhetorical question; just how long should dirty dishes be left on the table in front of a dinner. Had to ask for bread, he mixed up the order, so one in our group didn’t get what she ordered. When this error was pointed out, he showed us his ticket to prove he was right. The way I see it, the nine of us heard one thing and he heard something else. Our dinner accepted the wrong plate, because we didn’t have time to wait for the corrected plate. Two in our party each had a glass of the house Merlot, there comment was it was OK. The thing that got me was the service again. One glass was filled properly half way up the balloon, but the other had noticeably half the amount. It is the small things that make or break a restaurant. This place has been here since 1990, I want to know how they do it. The food, maybe this is what some people think of as southern Italian. Like I said at the beginning, we know what Italian food should taste like. For starters we ordered Mussels Marinara, they smelled bad and tasted worse, and we sent them back. Fried Mozzarella was ok, the tomato sauce was weak and tasteless. There were two appy specials for the night, Cappisa Salad (tomato, fresh mozzarella with a balsamic dressing) and a wild mushroom ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce. One of our group ordered the salad. The waiter quickly came back to tell us they were out of tomatoes but he would make a nice salad for us. What we got was a plate of packaged mozzarella on some lettuce. After she was done with the cheese, He brought out a plate of tomatoes, saying the chief found some. I had the wild mushroom ravioli, had a nice taste but the pasta was gummy, and every few bites I had proof they used fresh wild mushrooms as I found grit and a dirt taste in my mouth. Our entrees were not much better. I ordered the veal saltimbucco, a large serving of meat floating in a quarter inch of greasy mushroom sauce. The veal was tough, and any flavor it might have had was overshadowed by the greasy sauce. It was served over spinach, but there was so much grease I couldn’t eat it. It came with a serving of spaghetti and tomato sauce. It was too cold to eat. Others had the veal parmesan, again the meat was tough, and it was served luke warm. An order of tortellini carbonara, the pasta was over cooked, the sauce was gummy, with an over powering taste of lemon. My wife had the veal Sorrento, again the meat was tough, sauce was “disgusting” she didn’t finish it. As for the price, they were in line with our other diners this year at Hilton Head just under $300. with two glasses of wine, the rest of us had ice tea. All in all a very dissatisfying experience for us. There were other people in the restaurant and they looked like they were enjoying themselves. I wish I could invite them to NYC for a real southern Italian experience.

Food was fair for an Italian Restaurant, the special was Parmesan crusted flounder, it was very good. We were enjoying our food until a regular patron came in with a service dog. The dog stunk, and although they seated the gentleman in the corner away from most patrons. We however, had the pleasure of sitting right next to them. It was obvious the dog was well behaved and known by the staff. They were sweet to the dog calling her by name and brought a dog dish with water out for her, we also observed the man feeding the dog several bites of bread beside his table. What I dont appreciate is that we were early only the 3- 4th table seated. If they knew he was a regular why didnt they leave that seat vacant till last! Note there was little ventilation or air circulation, so the dog smell hovered over our table sitting on the smell of our wine and meal.

Had a delicious meal the other night at Stellini. I had the grouper Picatta, my wife had the chicken pancetta and our friends both had the lasagna. The meals were all delicious and we all had plenty left over for lunch the next day. Our waiter was attentive yet not overbearing. We had to have a couple desserts to share as they are homemade. The chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie was amazing as was the flourless chocolate tort. Looking forward to our next visit.

This is a long-time Island restaurant and I have dined there many times. Tonight may have been my last. Two of our four orders were for Lasagana-----both of which I suspect were frozen and had been microwaved to a sloppy, gooey, nuclear-hot mess. These people know better than to serve like that. If you really want good, homemade lasagna on Hilton Head try New York Pizza, its incredible.

Had chicken parm and linguine and clams with white sauce. Both were really tasty, clearly homemade, simmer for hours red sauce and well done white sauce clam sauce. House salad was amazing with lots of freshly grated cheese. Service was great, really friendly. Cute ambiance in the back Florida room with twinkle lights

Horrible. The waitress didnt know what any of the dishes were and all of our food was terrible. The veal piccata was chewy and tasted like glue. After sharing our distaste with the restaurant they didnt take the dish off our tab. Do not waste your time or money.

The food and prices are fair. Certainly not a clean place and probably the worst customer service weve ever experienced. Little Venice Restaurant is a little bit more expensive but 5xs more enjoyable. Enjoy the sun.....
