We went to the downtown Charleston location. If you go here to eat, you will wait longer than they tell you most likely, so just expect that. Wasnt a huge deal for my group of 7 - we knew that was coming. What was a huge deal was the awful service we received. Waitress had an attitude the moment she approached the table. I understand everyone is entitled to a bad day, but when you are in the customer service industry, you dont really have the luxury of letting that show so blatantly. The time between seating us and taking our drink order, then our food order was unacceptable. We even had to get our own silverware! Tables that were seated after us got their food before us, and by the time we got our food (an hour after being seated) it was clear it had been sitting under the warming lamps for quite some time. I ordered the classic egg breakfast. My plate looked almost empty when I got it. Only one piece of bacon and definitely not two eggs. My sisters ham was over cooked, boyfriends shrimp were lukewarm at best. My brother-in-law didnt even get the right sandwich. It was just awful all around... except for the biscuits. That was the only thing we could say was a positive. And we are not a group that usually complains! The manager did come over as requested and we explained the situation. The ONLY reason I would give this place another shot is because she did take care of us. If we ever go back we will be sure to have a different waitress, although I get the feeling she wont be there next time.

The food was good, but the staff was rude. When my wife and I walked in, there were 2 parties waiting before us and no one was at the hostess desk to take names or seat us. After waiting for at least five minutes, an employee (possibly the manager) walked past us and said aloud, "I dont understand why so many people are standing indoors and not outside." Well, maybe because we had yet to be helped... When we finally were seated, my wife asked the waitress about the ingredients in the Strawberry Cheesecake latte (because it was on special, but not included on the menu) to which she replied, "A strawberry cheesecake latte...I dont know...I dont drink coffee." Although the food was decent, the staff made us feel unwelcome until the bill came and then suddenly, the staff was friendly right before we had to decide the tip amount. We were disappointed with our experience and the lack of "southern hospitality."

went there for breakfast Saturday morning. Husband got the short stack of pecan pancakes and they were huge and delicious. I opted for the NY Times recommendation of the stuffed french toast. Wish I had skipped it to be honest. I am not sure why the NYT recommended it. Iy was a thick slab of bread that they made into french toast and then slapped some cinnamon apples on and drenched it in an apple cinnamon syrup. I was really disappointed with that to be honest. It wasnt terrible, just kind of blah.. The bacon and sausage were good though. The night before we got a slice of the coconut creme pie and a slice of the chocolate cake to take back to our hotel room. The coconut cream pie was the real deal. It was amazing. The chocolate cake was fudgey and the kind of cake you want a glass of milk with-just the way it should be. I would go for the coffee and dessert and skip the stuffed french toast.

I would like to see Gordon Ramsey do a Kitchen Nightmare on this place. The best thing they served was tap water. I believe they collaborate with airport drivers to usher tourists there. There is always a wait but I know little-to-no locals who talk about it. The location is ideal and they capitalize on it - but I truly believe this is below even the echelons of Waffle House. The Irish Omelette was bland, the hash undercooked, and the home fries clearly heated up from a frozen bag. The Eggs Meeting Street was also flavorless - the remouleade lacking any measurable seasoning. It was not a meal by which a visitor would like to remember of their visit to Charleston. As a tourist: save yourself a low point and try elsewhere. As a resident: you either already avoid it or your taste buds have been hopelessly accustomed to mediocrity. Service was fine, but its not why people go to restaurants.

Was really excited to see that something new moved into West Ashley off 17. I know Toast is well known and I thought this would be my new spot, as I live down the street on HWY 17. We went on Sunday around noon. Was there before the rush, put our order in.... Waited for over 45 minutes for scrambled eggs. After 3rd time i asked about our food, our waitress said she was unhappy the food wasnt coming out and she would say something to the manager. People who came after us, got their food, ate, and left before we got our meal!! THE MANAGER NEVER CAME TO TALK TO US TO APOLOGIZE, OR GIVE US A DISCOUNT WHEN THE BILL CAME! THIS BRUNCH TOOK 1.5 HOURS. RIDICULOUS! I was surprised at the awful service and poor management. Time & Money is better spent else where. This restaurant will fail like the last 3 in this location, due to the same exact service-related issues.

OMG! Several of my friends took me to lunch here for my birthday. Ever since I have been hooked. I was very uncertain because Im a person that like to stick to what I know. Of course they made me try something new. I dont know what to order, I was going to order chicken and fries but the waitress wouldnt let me! She was awesome. She suggested I try the shrimp and grits. She said that its one of their fmaous dishes. I was like ummmmm I dont know. She was like try it, I promise you will like it and if you dont the meal is on me. I tried it guys. She was absolutely correct. It was drop dead awesome. I scrapped the bowl. Guys try this restaurant. In addition the service here is beyond excellent. Since my birthday Ive been back 3 times. YEs for the same dish and everytime the service gets better and better. Try it!

This was my 3rd time at the Downtown location and it was a horrible experience solely based on the waiting time. I cannot believe a New York Times Top Rated restaurant that is packed on a regular basis cannot afford or hasnt gotten a pager system to have customers seated fairly and efficiently. I was in a party of 4 who was incorrectly written as a party of 2 which I corrected when called. The wait turned into 1.5 hours from 45 mins. We noticed 2-3 parties of 4 who got there after us got seated before us. When I confronted the hostess about it and looked at the list, there wasnt a corrected 4 from a party of 2. It was as if I was rewritten at the bottom of the list as a party of 4. Their current method of seating people is subpar and unacceptable. I wont be returning until Ive learned they have a pager system in place.
