This its not the place to go if you are looking for a meal. Why they say "hearty" in the description above is beyond me. We were walking through the nearby market, and were actually on the way to the car to go to R.Bs, and we were stopped on the sidewalk by this young lady who gave us a coupon. The prices seemed high on the menu outside, but we figured it would be fun, and for those prices, there would be enough to take home for lunch tomorrow. How wrong we were. People talk about the ghosts of Charleston. The ghost of Bubba Gump should take up residence in this place, and pester them for daring to serve such skimpy meals. Who in the heck came up with the idea of serving fried fish in little paper cones? The paper cones are stuffed with cabbage first, to make it look like you are getting a generous helping. Its a trick. It is essentially finger food, served on this big red wire rack, to make it look substantial. The actual portions are so small, and the rack was so airy that there is no way you can eat it fast enough before it gets cold. The waitress was friendly and attentive, the place was clean. Clean bathrooms. Good iced tea. The hush puppies in their dipping sauce were interesting, but "not right" in a way that is difficult to describe. Slaw needed to be chopped finer. Of course, the portion of slaw served was miniscule, too. Stop wasting cabbage by using it as packing, and serve it to your customers as food! My wife had the salad. It left a bitter taste in her mouth that is still there two hours later. The other reviews are right. It is a tourist trap, and not much else.

**** Update... they refunded the money of that worthless Landrys card. Admit it, people only go here because the movie was awesome... and its pretty hard to mess up crab legs. Plus who doesnt want to quote Forrest Gump while eating dinner? Anyway, my experience with Bubba Gumps in Chas was fine.... except for the inept waitress who got us to sign up for a Landrys Select Club card.... Allegedly, this card would act like any store card where you get points for spending money and then you get free stuff. She said the card was $25, but as soon as you signed up online, you got the money right back, so it would be a free card. WRONG. You sign up and then see that you dont get your money back... all youve done is spend $25 toward your next meal at Bubba Gumps. Who would do that? Why would anyone pay forward a meal? I mean, Haley Joel Osment might, but even that idiot died at the end of that sappy crap fest "Pay it Forward." So I called Landrys to get this taken off the bill. They had me call the general manager to get a refund. The general manager acted as if I had asked him to sire my first born. Then he said he would call me back after he talked to Landrys. Well, that was like 20 minutes ago and I have yet to hear from him. Well see how this goes. I knew I should have just gotten frozen crab legs from Publix and made them at home. It would have been a hell of a lot cheaper than what I spent at Bubba Gumps. But, as Forrest said so long ago, stupid is as stupid does.

There was nothing enjoyable about this visit. Terrible service beginning at the outside host. 5pm on a Wednesday. When We arrived there was hardly anyone eating. 2 tables outside on a very large patio and one table in the bar seated, 2downstairs. The host outside said 20-25 minute wait which truly seemed excessive but we sat patiently. 35 minutes later we asked when we would be seated, he said very shortly. At 50 minutes we walked inside and asked the bartender what takes so long to be seated (this was our first experience at Bubba Gump). She told us to have a seat in the bar. So here we sit.... Waiting for food for over a hour at a slow restaurant. Waited for close to 10 minutes for soda refills. My thinking is..... If I get good service, you can serve me dog food and Ill be happy. You give me horrible service from the start and then feed mediocre food at an excessive price you get one very unsatisified customer. Would I ever eat at Bubba Gump again? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Worst dining experience. Upper Management: you should really look at your restaurant and your staff. Your floor manager was clueless as well. To those considering stopping at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co in Charleston, I have 3 words of advice for you: Run Forest Run!!!!!

Visited Bubba Gump today for a dinner with the family. Ordered 4 meals, 2 drinks, an appetizer and a salad. My husbands meal (The entree Catch??) had shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, and mixed vegtables (celery, red potatoes) was horrible. We have had the entree from other seafood locations in the lowcountry and this was not what was expected. The vegetables were ROCK hard, like not cooked at all, there was no shrimp and the meal like warm. We sent it back, waitress offered for him to get something else and she would have the manager take off the price of his first meal. Do he ordered the po boy, it comes, bread is ROCK hard. Hes maybe eaten 4 bites. We asked for Our check and was still charged for in ediable food. I will say, our waitress was friendly, understanding, and accommodating. This was our last visit to Bubba Gump of Charleston.

Extremely dissatisfied with the extended wait beyond what we were quoted, we did not receive the text notifications. We sat additional 10-15 minutes at our table before the waiter greeted us. Then upon reviewing my bank card activity log later that day I find out the waiter charged my bank card when I gave cash and to place the tip/remainder on the bankcard. He never told me this- his error. When I returned to speak with the manager only when the manager addressed him about the issue did he say anything/apologize. I can understand if youre training- one is learning- but I dont understand a lack of integrity or not being forthcoming when one is learning. My family and I will never patronize that location again.

Visit Charleston every few years with family. Theres always one night we all go out and trying to find a place that makes everybody happy can be tricky. All my favorite places have closed or been bought out. This year, we came to Bubba Gumps, and its awesome. All the restaurants on Folly, James, and Mt. Pleasant overcharge and serve the same tired shrimp and grits low country bullsh** fare. Im not saying Bubbas is a high class establishment, but its GREAT food at a Great price and it accommodates all walks. Our server was efficient, everything tasted fantastic, and we didnt pay $35 for an entree I can get at any brick and mortar back in the Midwest. I especially enjoyed the Jambalaya

My wife and I went here for lunch, and the food and service was fine, but she contracted staphlycoccus food poisoning from here and was so violently ill in the night she burst the blood vessels in her face. When we checked out of our hotel, our hotel clerk told us a group of her and 5 employees had a christmas party there a few days before and they all were violently ill as well. So much that she ended up in the emergency room. I would hate to see children or older people deal with this illness, I suspect an employee might be spreading staph. If you do eat here, I would suggest eating only cooked foods and not chilled shrimp (thats the only thing my wife had that I didnt)
