This place is an anomaly. Dive bar doesnt even define it properly. I will say that if you are looking for a solid burger, Big Gun has my #1 or #2 favorite in the whole city. That being said, dont expect anything over a hot meal. The "service" the bartender gave to others was embarrassing for me to even sit and listen to. When to guys, obviously just visiting, walked in and asked for wine, the bartender literally said we have white and red. When the patrons inquired further into exactly which types they had, the bartender pulled the bottle from the refrigerator and after handing it to the patron for their own analysis said, " I dont know what that says, but it does the trick" For clarification, this is not a wine bar and I dont expect the employees to be able to pull out notes of hickory or cherry. What I would expect is professionalism which was as far away from this place as a clean set of stemware. Overall, I like this place but only because I know what Im getting into when I walk in. Ive always had bad service here though. A few months ago I walked in and sat at a table for literally 8 minutes and in that time, not one server or bartender emerged from the back. In closing, get the great burgers while you can. The gentrification of Charleston will soon push this place to the outskirts with its similar brethren Tattooed Moose and Royal.

Big Gun Burger Shop & Bar, My wife and I went in on a Sunday around 1pm after seeing a show on food network that was doing burgers. I googled BEST BURGERS IN CHARLESTON and this came up with 4 1/2 stars. We jumped in the car and went downtown. After finding a parking place right down the street we walked into this awesome little place. We were greeted by the bartender and offered menus. We were pleased to see all the awesome items on the small menu. We both ordered drinks which came right out and the Bloody Mary was Perfect with a piece of fresh cooked bacon as a garnish. We ordered burgers which came out nice and juicy. Just have to say Kudos to the staff for getting this little hole in the wall on Calhoun right and treating the customers like friends. Thanks Guys and we will be back. Already recommended you to friends who work in the area.

The food was amazing, but the bartender named Heavy thought it would be ok to add in a tip to my credit card even though I tipped him in cash 20% when I cashed out. I went back to the establishment and asked why he could just add money to the slip when I clearly indicated I left cash on my merchant copy. I left my phone number and was assured that it would be fixed. I was never contacted and the issue was not resolved. I will never return there again. I warn everyone reading this to just pay in cash. Unbelievable how they can just steal money from me like that.

Tonight we ordered food from your establishment to be delivered to our hotel , and honestly Im shocked ANYONE would let that food leave their kitchen. It was virtually inedible. The fries (both orders) were so badly burned they couldnt be eaten and the burgers were charred to black charcoal. I honestly feel like youve stolen my money. Oh! And to top things off, the guy who you have answering your phone needs to work on his people skills. Never again, and Ill be warning anyone who asks to stay away as well. Sent from my iPhone

Just had some awesome burgers at big gun burger shop. We went with our kids at 4 right when they opened. Awesome happy hour from 4-6 has half priced burgers. I had the towering inferno which lived up to the name. Rest had the house burger. Lots of debate if it was the best burgers weve ever had but its in the running. Loose atmosphere. Definitely more bar than restaurant but at 4-5 totally fine for a family with kids. Later evening probably not. Good beer and liquor selection. Fries WERE the best regular fries. No debate there.

Went here for a later night burger. It was literally one of the best Ive ever had. Im a food snob so saying that is a big deal. The barkeep was a super guy who was literally running the whole place. The place is like a dark and eclectic dive with cool decor. The two man band was a good one. Its a small place and just the ticket for a beer off their extensive list Nd burgers!

Went here because of the Google ratings. I was not disappointed. 1/2 prices burgers from 4-6pm were a pleasant surprise. They were tasty and worth the $5.75 ish price. Bartender was the friendliest and most sincere in town that we came across. I think his name was "Jason". It was quiet on a Wednesday at 4pm but it was perfect! I call the the best burger in town!!!!

Stopped in Charleston for a break from the road, hotel concierge (local kid) said to try this place may not look like much, but they got the best burgers. Both vegetarian, we wanted to drink and see. Veggie burger and mac&cheese were fantastic, drinks were great, music was great and Chris the bartender was great..

This place is awesome. The space is great, the beers on tap are great, the drink specials the veggie burger is great, the music is great too. Love that its a nice change up in atmosphere from a lot of Charleston spots. Austin could not have been a more gracious host and made the experience that much better.

I just moved from Massachusetts and found big gun to be a great place for locals. The tacos are absolutely to die for! The bartender named Heavy was so amazing and accommodating! He really made sure all my needs were met while dining at this establishment!!! Its really a great place all around.

The Burgers here are some of the best in Charleston as they are insanely good! I started with the Porker Burger (which is great) but each time I go in I must try another. Beer prices are really good for a downtown Charleston restaurant and there is a nice selection of Craft Brew!

I come to this place quite often and the food is always excellent. One of the chefs pat does a great job of preparing your meal but also caring its done correctly. Perfect place to go to on any given night. Burgers, chicken bog, and Mac and cheese are always to die for!!

The burgers and fries are phenomenal. Highly recommend the big gun sauce, too. The service was great, but this is not a place for high maintenance clientel. Its a no-frills dive bar with a very small menu. If youre looking for a bangin burger, this is the place.

Big Gun really does have the best Burgers in Charleston! Their pimento cheese burger is insanely good and their beer selection to wash it down with is just as good. Whenever my husband and I actually make it off James Island to eat we always head for Big Gun!

Luv Luv. Never a bad experience. Burgers and staff are great. Was there when a fire broke out behind a cooler, interupting our game of Cards Against Humanity. Got free shots in room filled with smoke and fire extinguisher. Never closed. Great times.
