Four of us went to Matunuck Oyster Bar for dinner. The valet parking made the start of the evening easy and nice. We gave our name at the hostess desk, and I mentioned to the lovely young lady that we would like an outdoor seat. I even pointed out the very table we would like, if it was available. She said it was, she put our name in her ipad, and she told us they just needed to clean off the table. While we were waiting, we noticed another employee point to our table while talking to another group of four. I told the hostess about that; she and my sister arrived at that other employee at about the same time to let him know the table was already taken. The other employee said that he was the manager, and he proceeded to mansplain that the hostess did not do her job properly and the table appeared open on his ipad. In other words, clearly, it was her fault, even though I saw her put my name in for that table. He casually said “sorry,” and continued to seat his four guests – who had arrived after we had. We finally got a seat, in the interior of the restaurant. The server was wonderful. The drinks were OK, but should have been better for the price. The clam chowder was delicious. The steamed muscles were lacking in flavor. The clams casino were subpar (less bread, more butter, please). When we left, the place was crazy busy, with people lined up for what looked like, at least, an hour wait. All in all, the view was wonderful, the employees (other than that manager) were great, the drinks were OK, and the food was “meh.” But, the atmosphere of a place begins and ends with the management, and he started our evening on a very sour note.

Went to Matunuck Oyster Bar for the very first time July 2nd of this year. My wife is not a seafood person, but we heard great things about this place and knew she could get something other than seafood. She saw the Rib Eye on the menu and inquired about it to our waitress. The waitress was very helpful and said it was really good and there is even someone who comes almost weekly to get it. Well after hearing that my wife decided she had to order it. After the meal, all she could say about it was it was one of THE BEST steaks she had ever had. I knew we were coming back to the area in a few weeks and she wanted to return and get it again - it was that good! However, the 2nd time was not the great steak she had previously, not even close to the one she had the first time. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it or not, but the first time we sat at a table and this last time we sat at the bar, which usually doesnt matter. I even mentioned it to the bartender, who just looked at her and smirked. Thats it, only a smirk from him. You would have thought he would have at least tried to appease her by offering something else...or at least a free cocktail. And no, I didnt push the issue and ask for a manager, however now looking back, I probably should have.

Love the story behind the restaurant. Came highly recommended online and by local people. Being from Long Island, New York, I usually have Blue Point Oysters which are a good size and have a nice flavor. The oysters I tried , both cooked and raw, were much smaller than what I was used to but the flavor was very good. The service was attentive throughout and the owner came by the table a couple of times while we were eating to ask how everything was. The seared scallops were excellent while the blackened yellow fin tuna, though not bad, did leave a bit to be desired. The special dessert of the day was a fruit tart with local blueberries, blackberries and raspberries with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. I would guess that the whipped cream tastes home made. Wonderful dessert. My only gripe would be that the tart shell was a little underdone. Also tried the chocolate bread pudding. It was very nice as well. WORD OF ADVICE!!!!!! Get there early or you will have to wait for a table. My wife and I were seated at 4:45 when it was only half full. When we left at 6:30, it was packed with people waiting outside.

A wonderful experience and very good farm-fresh food. A few minor glitches wouldnt deter us from returning. The place was packed and local police were out front directing traffic around the constant line of cars inching along the shoulder into the parking lot. The outdoor lounge & walk-up bar were crowded and luckily the weather and water views were lovely, because we waited 45 minutes (were told itd be 30) and the dozen buck-a-shuck oysters we ordered never arrived until we were seated and asked our waiter, who brought us a fresh platter of oysters. We ordered two specials: tuna & swordfish, both were absolutely amazing - very fresh, perfectly cooked and attractively presented with mixed greens, saffron rice and/or potatoes. Our teens enjoyed their burger and chicken, bacon, bbq grinder, respectively. The chef (Jeff) was generous with the serving sizes and no one could complain about not enough food. We were all too full for dessert. It was one of the highlights of our visit to RI and we will definitely go back.

So after hearing nothing but good reports about this establishment my wife and I traveled there because she was dying for raw oysters. We arrived on A Sunday afternoon and immediately noticed the parking lot was full. Terrific valet parking though eases that little bit of apprehension/parking so dont be discouraged. Once we got to the door the hostess advised us that an outdoor sitting would take about 20-30 minutes but there was immediate seating inside which we grabbed without question. A raw oyster assortment served of course on crushed ice immediately satisfied my wifes cravings and we also ordered the cold lobster salad roll which is indescribably delicious. All in all a superb experience. Dont be put off by the full parking lot and crowded dining areas both indoors and out. That in itself should say everything about the service and the quality of the food. Five stars!

The Valet Parking was much appreciated. The attendants were polite, respectful & courteous. We asked for outside seating and we had a wonderful view of the water. Table was cleared and reset for us within minutes. Our waiter was polite, smiled, attentive withiut being intrusive. Well informed of specials, which Oysters were available & listened to all of our requests. The appetizers came out quickly. We ordered Oysters, Clam Casinos & Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce. Oysters were delicious. Shrimp was the jumbo size. Casinos were well liked also. Our dinners came out quickly as well. Fish n Chips, The Fried Clams & Sea Scallops. Each meal was a plentiful amount of food. I myself had the Scallops, the plate came with mashed red bliss potatoes, nice variety of vegetables, a bed of delicious corn salsa with Scallops on top. Great time had by all. Will definitely be back.

Food was decent. Chowder was good...stuffie luke warm kinda like the stuffie cook was sandbagging. Caesar was ok but no croutons....there was bread on the side but not the same as caesar soaked croutons...just my opinion. I had a burger...it was a bit overcooked but there were heirloom tomatoes on the burger which was nice. My old lady had jambalaya which she liked very much but the shrimp were definitely overcooked as well. They were crazy busy as they usually are and major props for how and where they get their products but just a couple of loose ends to tie up to bring it all together. We sat in what is like a florida room which was pretty humid and i got bitten a few times by mosquitos but I dont think there was anything they could have done about that. Service was good and food was out pretty quick despite of how busy it was.
