This is not authentic Japanese food. The owner and his girlfriend are Korean. They do not speak Japanese and they have not even lived in Japan. This is just another local restaurant that is making mediocre food and taking advantage of the fact that most locals cannot tell one nationality of asian from another. Anything you could make at home with rice would be just as Japanese as this food. They had a Craigslist ad posted this week for cooks and dishwashers. I called because I lived in Japan and cook Japanese food so I have something to offer their restaurant as a cook. The Korean female who answered the phone immediately told me, "We only hire man, we dont hire woman." So if you are a woman, you might want to think about whether you want to spend your money eating in a restaurant that discriminates against women in their hiring practices. We women have to stop supporting businesses that refuse to hire women even though the woman could be just as qualified or more qualified than any man who applies. Do you want to spend your money in a restaurant that would rather hire a male illegal immigrant from Mexico who has no personal knowledge of Japanese food instead of a female with experience cooking Japanese food and time living in Japan? As a woman, I say that as women we need to stop supporting businesses that blatantly discriminate against us. If you are a man, think about the struggles of your mother, sisters, daughters, wife in trying to obtain employment or be promoted to management positions or be paid equally for the same job as the men she works with. Businesses like this should not receive our support. It is not true that women cannot be good cooks in restaurants. If you think women cannot cook in restaurants well, then please start watching Top Chef and see how many really excellent female cooks are out there. Then start paying attention to who is actually doing the cooking in most restaurants. Very often it is male illegal immigrants from Mexico or Central America or South America. These male immigrants mostly come from male dominant countries where the women do all the cooking at home. So please explain to me why these men who usually do not grow up cooking anything in their homes because women do all the cooking somehow make better cooks than women who have extensive cooking experience? Now you know why most restaurant food tastes so bad. It is a simple case of gender discrimination. I hope you will join me in not supporting businesses that will not give a woman an equal chance to work. Believe me, if you ate something that I cooked versus something the average 25 year old male illegal immigrant cooked, you would say my cooking was better hands down, no contest. Hiring discrimination against women is deplorable and will never end as long as the businesses that practice this discrimination are supported.

Let me start off by getting this out of the way: Kissho is the best place I have ever eaten sushi. Ive looked and looked and wherever I go, I wish it were more like Kissho. Ive eaten here many times -- at least twice a week for the past few months -- and I figured it was time to write a review. The food is fantastic. They have a wide variety of sushi from traditional to Americanized and everything is as good as it gets. The fish used for sushi is very high quality. I personally recommend the salmon as Ive never had better. They also have excellent salads, soups, fried rice, and mochi. Service is pretty good. For lunch theres usually one or two women serving and one man preparing sushi. At dinner there are usually two sushi chefs and maybe three servers. There are times that I wait a little while for my food (up to 25 mins), but thats usually when Im with a group of people. I cant complain, though; it always comes out perfectly. The chef takes his time, and its well worth the wait. I think the prices are very reasonable. It costs a little more than the cheapo sushi joints in the area, but its also significantly better. Its cheaper than my next favorite sushi restaurant. If I buy one roll and two nigiri I can walk out of there having spent less than 10 dollars on my meal. If you get a few of the more expensive rolls you can run your tab up to thirty dollars, but youll also be stuffed out of your mind. The atmosphere and decor are very well done and the tables are spacious. Even the chopsticks are above average. I feel its the little details that set Kissho apart from the rest. Ive introduced quite a few people to Kissho and its almost all of their favorite sushi restaurant now. So if you like sushi, or you want to try sushi for the first time, go to Kissho. I promise you wont be disappointed.

Kissho has probably the best sushi in York County, so far, at least as far as I am concerned. Its over by the York hospital across the street in a small plaza, the location is a bit awkward - and there is no restroom in the restaurant, it is a shared restroom in the plaza, which is a bit different. Kissho is more of your traditional Japanese style restaurant, it is very pleasant, quiet and relaxing - without all the gimmicy trappings of other Asian places. The service is friendly and impeccable, Ive eaten here many time over the years and never had a complaint. They are BYOB which is ok - but I would prefer that they serve beer or wine, but you cant win them all. Typically I would get nigiri or sashimi here, but on different occasions I have had a few of their rolls as well - I love the Akira and the Atlantic rolls, they are my favorites. The kids often get the fried rice or the yakisoba - sometimes the udon. It is all wonderful here. If you really love sushi and/or real Japanese cuisine Kissho is worth a visit - truly a gem here in York

I have been going here for about 2 years, but in the last few months the quality has really fallen. I would have rated it a 4 star sushi bar 2 years ago, now its very common to get extremely small portions, with wet rice on the sushi. The food is now rather bland tasting, and I agree with the previous review that they often serve the hard bitter core of lettuce as part of a expensive salad. There are a few nice sushi restaurants in York, at one time Kissho was one of them, now I stick to Wild Ginger, Masa and Viet Thai. I hope Kissho gets it together and works on their product, they are actually nice people, but the food took a serious nose dive.

What makes Kissho stand out for me is their ability to transport you to another place... the serenity of the decor, the soft music, and the extremely pleasant staff. They go out of their way to make your experience memorable. I recently visited with my daughter, and we inquired about one of the items being prepared at the sushi bar. Shortly thereafter, a sample of this roll was put in front of us to try. This is just one example of the willingness to please and and create a positive experience. I highly recommend this little gem in the Colonial Shopping Plaza.

Kissho Sushi Restaurant is a wonderful place to get fresh sushi in York. So far I’ve found several places in the York area to enjoy Sushi with my son, Mitsuru-Ya, Fujihana Japanese Steak House, and Kissho Sushi Restaurant. The food and service at Kissho Sushi Restaurant is right up there with the best, I eat there regularly and recommend it highly. If you’re heading back from Baltimore, the only way I found to get better Sushi is to either pick it up at the Hunt Valley Wegman’s, or go to Umi Sake restaurant in Cockeysville.
