Super dissapointed. Weve come to Viva 3 or 4 times over the last year and have always loved the food, had great service, and loved the atmosphere. This visit we were suprised that the menu had shrunk considerably and that the remaining items seemed to have gone up in price and been replaced by cheaper ingredients. Our waitress was friendly but not very attentive after we had received our entrees, my husband had to seek her out just to get his water refilled which had been empty for a while. The staff seemed more interested in chit chatting and laughing with each other than providing quality service. Our appetizer was delivered to the table next to us and that table had to flag down a waitress (not their own) in order to fix the mistake. Our food was mediocre at best- our appetizer (the hummus plate) was completely different from previous visits. Instead of fresh pita, olives, hummus, sauteed onions and peppers with feta, it was a little bowl of hummus, chopped celery and baby carrots, some sort of pita cracker and some toasted bread. I gave my husband a taste of my entrée (Country Chicken Pie) and he said, "I grew up on chicken pot pie and this tastes like it came from a can." As we were leaving, none of the three staff members standing by the door (talking to each other) even acknowleged us. No "goodnight" or "have a good night". Before tonight, I would have strongly reccommended ViVa to anyone looking for a great place to eat. Now its unlikely that we will ever come back since we receive better service and food at places that charge half as much.

My husband & I have eaten here a handful of times over the past few years. The atmosphere is upbeat & spacious. However, the food is hit or miss. For instance, on our last visit my flatbread was made with fresh ingredients & delicious. On the other hand, my husband & my friends spouses dinners...POOR. Especially for the price. He had the "French Country Chicken Pie"...consisting of what looked & tasted like creamed chicken soup, scant chopped pieces of grisly chicken, frozen carrots, & what appeared to be a pre-packaged, frozen puff pastry (like one youd buy in Redners) crust. NOT at all what he expected. Why not make your own "pastry crust"?? Its served in a shallow baking dish. Thats it. Oh...a "chopped" salad came as a side. It was missing the cucumbers, cheese, & potato shoestrings...waitress rolled her eyes when he asked to have his salad fixed. My friends meal....worst! Some kind of chicken panini. Soggy...& guess what...missing the tomatoes! :( Yet another eye roll & nasty mumbling from our server. Sad & disappointing. LOOK around you VIVA...West Reading is improving every year. Fabulous spots serving quality fresh ingredients! I am sorry to say this but...there are simply much better dinner options just down Penn Ave. Please...work on your service & catch up with many of the other local establishments & their lean toward the farm to table, local, seasonal dishes.

I have lived in the vicinity of this restaurant for more than two years and regretfully after the third time Viva messed up my take-out order they ruined my overall experience in recommending this food and or experience. First time I ordered food they didnt give me everything and I had to make a trip back - offered nothing in value! The second time I ordered the same item and everything that I was given before was not included, such as bread or salad even though I am told this would be included. Finally, the third time they gave me the wrong order, frustrated, the manager simply apologized and than stood there for a minute and said, "are we OK?" Really? There food, offering, and quality is not consistent. The management isnt creditable and simply not trained whether this is the managers direct issue or the managements lack of selection or inexperience to staff two simple restaurant operations. I hope that this is concerning and is not a wake up call for already existing problems and will hopefully correct this now. May try one more time in two years or so,,, if still in operation.

I ate at this establishment before the building was closed for renovations, and ate there just a few days ago for lunch. While the atmosphere is nice, the food is simply poor quality diner food served in a nice atmosphere. I simply don’t know why people even come to this establishment. The atmosphere is wonderful and the new lounge is awesome, it must be the booze because the rest is terrible. I had the Spicy French Dip for lunch. I expected nicely carved roast beef, a piece of pepperjack cheese, a few onion rings on a crisp panini served with a tasty and ample amount of flavorful au jus. What I received was some of the above, smothered in the cheapest brown gravy with a little sauce cup of yet, more of the terrible brown waxy tasteless gravy. What I recived was not Spicy French Dip, it was a sloppy roast beef and gravy sandwich of substandard quality. The Coors Light, however, was good. Needless to say, after two (2) tries, I won’t be back again. I could have got the same thing at the Queen City Diner or Effies Charcoal Chef and I’m scared to eat there.

My wife and I were regulars at Viva when it first opened and were sad when it closed down for renovations. Now that it has reopened, we have started to come back. Our one major disappointmnet was when they reopened their was no music and no dancing. But to the owners credit, they listened to the regular customers who wanted to have a nice upscale place to go on a weekend to relax and have a good time, and they worked out a deal to have live bands return to the club. We could not thank the owners more for providing a place like this that is sorely needed in what is otherwise an extermely boring town for nightlife. I think the bar staff are and have been consistently freindly and responsive and they have become like friends and have always provided top notch service. For you people that criticize the food, I do not really come to Viva to eat except for their tapas and, for the money, you cant beat them. And the wine and beer selection is better than respectable. I know I am one who is happy that Viva is back!

It breaks my heart to leave this review as this is the place I met my husband for our first date, where weve had most anniversary dinners and even our rehearsal dinner, not to mention NUMEROUS other occasions. This place isnt what it used to be. We were there last night for my birthday, had the private area in the back. Wasnt set up for the number of reserved and had to wait about 10 minutes for them to address. Only one server and he seemed overwhelmed. Power went out and while this was no fault of theirs, they didnt seemed too concerned. You would think the manager would pop in to minimally apologize for the inconvenience, nope. When we asked to speak to him, no apology, just a somewhat rude "What do you want me to do about it?" At no time were we offered to move to the main dining area where the generators were powering the lights. Just though maybe an acknowledgement from management would have been appropriate
