There are very few places like this in this area; well...anywhere. We go almost every friday for their happy hour from 5 to 6 during which free food is distributed at the bar. The food is ok, but the atomosphere it creates is very friendly and when it is accompanied by the beer they serve...the beer, which often comes from small batches, much of it local but some from quite far, is part of what makes this place special. The selection on draft, usually a dozen good beers, is never quite the same; and the "beer menu" sometimes will change even during one evening. Ales, stouts, lagers and porters are usually all available. There are often several "imperial" selections. These are brewed more carefully, with more and better ingredients, and served in smaller glasses. I recently had the Dogfish 120 min IPA, which is quite hard to find. It is a superb beer from the Delaware, and is amazingly smooth despite having an astonishingly 18% alcohol content. Another somewhat unique aspect of this place is area its in. The food can be ordered off the pub menu or a more elaborate restaurant menu (restaurant seating is available, with tablecloths and cloth napkins, in the back half of the establishment). Outside and nearby is an old warehouse building which now houses a few businesses, but much of it is unoccupied. Broken windows on its upper floor (the warehouses not the pubs) contribute to the general atmosphere of the place. In another direction, and about a 100 yards away is the Schuylkill River, which you can walk to. There is a bench there, which on a nice day one can sit and admire the scenery.

I recently went to Canal Street Pub for the first time. The selection of beer is great, and their fresh cut french fries are delicious. I wasnt crazy about the appetizer sampler; the portion size was extremely small for the price. Sadly, our server was the worst part of our experience... she would disappear for long periods of time and when we would ask for something, she seemed annoyed. If the place was busy, Id be much more understanding. However, there was hardly anybody there, and most of the people were sitting at the bar. Not to mention we were there celebrating a birthday... My rating for Canal Street Pub would be higher if we had a different server. If youre a beer lover, I certainly recommend going to this place.

Came here for lunch with some friends and family. Food and beer selection was pretty good. What makes me not want to come here again as well as the others that were with me is due to the waitress. She was the worst waitress I have ever had in my life. As someone else mentions in their review, she would be gone for long periods of time and when she was around she acted like she hated her life and treated us horribly. I would have rated this around 4 stars if it wasnt for her. I personally think if they fired her and got more personable servers, they would get better business. Next time I am in the area and need food, I wont be coming here.

Went to dinner prior to a Jazz fest concert. Everything was great--food, service, wine selection. We all tried something different and were completely satisfied. If I hadn t been there with company I would have licked the plate clean on the Brie and Pear Butter appetizer! Service was superb and at 5:30 there was hardly a crowd. I hope that all the idiots who support the chain restaurants waited in line for standard fare!

Dont go for the food!! My seafood pasta was so spicy I could not eat it, which was very disappointing and not noted on the menu at all. I had to trade meals with my partner who had the Linguine and Clam Sauce..also very spicy but somewhat edible, listed light touch of red pepper but overkill in my opinion. My German Reisling I ordered tasted like a CA, NY or WA state Reiseling ...also disappointing. We will not be back.

Canal street has beers on hand I have never seen. Dont come here looking for a bud or miller, they dont have them. Dusty (bartender) was very knowledgeable and helpful. However they dont really have a coctail list which my fiance wasnt too pleased about but she was fine with a lemon drop. Apps were good too. Im definitely coming back to try the hundred or so beers i didnt get to. Also live jazz band was really good too

One of the best draft and bottled beer selections around. There are always at least a dozen or more craft brews on tap, rotating regularly. Also: Tasty, inexpensive bar food. Beer flights. Knowledgeable, accommodating staff. Occasional live music. Pool table. Board games. Popcorn with toppings. And surprisingly elegant dinner entrees. All housed in a spacious old factory building dripping with industrial character.

The bar sits next to a massive abandoned factory which adds a really cool vibe to the place when you walk up to it. This was the only decent bar I could find while I was in Reading. Their beer selection and the atmosphere inside the place rivals any of the better bars I have ever been to. If I was ever in Reading again I would stop back here for a beer again.

Outstanding craft beer selection, bottle and draught. Great menu featuring casual and fine dining options. And space for special events; receptions, rehearsals and showers, business meetings and fundraising events. Plus a number of unique craft beer events under the Brewphoria banner. Now the home of WakeCup Craft Coffee too. Great cold brew!

The food was great. Had a lot of flavor. Loved their meatloaf and Mac and cheese. My one little complaint though was the portion size was a little smaller than I am used to. The beer selection was insane. They give you a clip board of all of the drinks they have. They had so much it would be impossible to find one you didnt like.

Enjoyable spot, but they are occasionally not open due to events, and it can be tough to tell this until youre there. Service is generally good and theres a decent drink selection, along with a nice menu (but they stop the kitchen well before they close down, so go early if youre want to both eat and drink).

Always great beers on tap. Food is decent, exposed beams and brick make for a nice atmosphere. There are good specials my personal favorite being Tuesdays. More than have the draft list is $3 a beer. Its hard to find good craft beer for under $5. Definitely worth checking out.

Hop head heaven. This place also keeps some very strong dark ales and barley wines (reader, try the Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot). Nice atmosphere, not too smoky from cigarettes. They have a really nice pool table worth playing on. I would go just for the beers.

A combination of French and American cuisine in an intimate atmosphere. From fish to beef to pork there is nothing to get in your way of great dining experience. A fabulous wine cellar to accommodate your taste buds will not disappoint you as well!!
