when I went to eat this restaurant with my kids we loved it. The food was excellent, the service was fantastic. They make you feel like you are part of the family and they are always very friendly. The Owners take the time to come out to speak with the customers and they pay attention to details and what the customers needs are. If you are ever around the area drop by and you will see that you will have the most wonderful experience ever. The food is fresh and home made and now and days you dont find that every often. So dont take my word just drop by and visit THE WINDMILLS FAMILY RESTAURANT and you will see what Im talking about. I have seen the reviews that some people have given this place and I dont agree with what they said, first of all the food does not taste like it comes from a can, nor I have head any rap music playing their. the service is very good because the owners are very strict about how the customers should be treat it. The place it my not be modern but it has a very home style atmosphere. But people should not lie and speak about some once business that way because remember people what goes around comes around. Is true every one is in tittle to their own pinions but when you exaherate to an extreme that is call a low blow, Im just saying.

If you look at my other reviews you noticed that if I dont have anything nice to say I usually just dont bother reviewing. But I guess Im branching out a little bit. I went there with my wife and my two daughters. We were ordering dinner type items. The rest of my family thought the food was passable. The fries were very good. I got the prime rib which was one of the specials. I usually get some type of steak anytime we dont eat at home. Ive had a lot of prime rib over the years. This was by far and away the worst Prime rib Ive ever had. When I ordered it they didnt ask me how I liked my prime rib to be prepared. I understand why because the steak was so well done it was dark black and as thick as a skirt streak. Prime rib should usually be pink even if youre on the well-done side. I have no way to prove this but I wouldnt be surprised if this had been cooking in its juices for a couple days to get this dark. I probably should have asked for something else but I mustered through it and ate it anyway. We dont go out very often so when we do I like to have a good meal . A place that would serve prime rib like that doesnt care about their food quality and so we probably will never go back. The service was okay, no complaints about our waitress.

The place was tacky and really outdated. It had a distinctive smell like humidity or something. Usually ill walk right out the door but we decided to give them a shot since we were really hungry and my kids were hungry too. It was breakfasts time so i got an omelet and my wife had pancakes for her and the kids. The pancakes where really good. The omelet was also good, the potatoes that came with the omelet were tasteless and seemed old. The bacon was ok and the coffee was good. Obviously is hard to mess it up on an omelet pancakes and bacon cuz anybody can easily cook that. Service was good. My waitress was courteous and ensured my coffee was filled up all the time. The bathroom was in poor condition. Really old and worned out. They need some help from that guy from restaurant impossible to flip this place around. I dont want to imagine how lunch and dinner will taste like in this place. The menu is waaayy to long. So i find hard to believe they can keep up with that much food on the menu without losing quality.

My husband and I went on a Tuesday evening. We had been there before and food was ok but this time we didnt even get our food. We received our beverages and 45 minutes later still didnt have our food and watched 2 people who were seated after us receive and finish their meals. In the hour we were there we saw the waitress 3 times: once to take our beverage order, again to take our food order and once more after asking another waitress if she could check on our food. We left and paid for our drinks and the cashier wanted to know where our bill was and was rude and seemed inconvenienced by us. Will never go back again. Ended up down the road at Pizza Hut and got a pizza within 15 minutes. Avoid it unless you have a lot of time and dont mind rude service

A co-worker and I stopped here for dinner on 8/18/2014 while we were in town for work. We were both really disappointed with the food. I got the pot roast and it was literally the stuff you get out of a can, like Dinty-Moore style, heated up and poured over some mashed potatoes. My co-worker was equally not happy with her dinner. She also tried dessert, but said it just tasted like a frozen pastry that had been heated up. From the outside we were hoping for home-style cooking, but its clear to me that nothing at this place is fresh or homemade. Our waitress was friendly and the service was attentive, but there is just no making up for food this bad.

While the Windmill is nothing fancy or overstated it is a great place to go to grab a quick bite for a reasonable cost. Their breakfast has always been stellar, their omelettes are delicious. Not a big fan of their chicken sandwich... very small and fatty... but their hot turkey sandwich is great. Alfredo is good too, and their soups have never let me down. It has never been dirty as other reviewers have stated, and I have been there over a dozen times. Its truly a family restaurant. A casual diners place for consistent food and a generally friendly staff.

Windmill is one of my favorite restaurants. Their menu is extensive, the prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. Its mostly down home still country cooking, which I love. The food all seems "real", not frozen or packaged like other restaurants. Windmill is the only place I insisted on eating while my mom was visiting me. The one thing the place lacks is ambiance. It is very much an old style "family restaurant". Its not as fancy as a Cracker Barrel or Bob Evans, but their other virtues more than make up for that.

Lousy food, waitress acted like she didnt want to be there, rap music playing in the dining area. Bathrooms in disrepair. We live in the area and have never been here because it has a reputation as a crap hole tourist trap. And sorry to say that has been confirmed. The place has a good history but whoever owns it now has to make some serious changes. Start by cooking real food from scratch not out of a can and update the property a bit. God knows what the kitchen looks like.

I have been to the Windmill many times and never have had a bad meal. This time I tried a lamb & beef mixed Gyro. It was really tasty and came with french fries that were golden brown perfection. When they have their chicken croquets as a special, be sure to try them out. And the peanut butter pie is heavenly. They have baked goods to take with you and a small gift shop out front. Make sure this is a meal stop on your next trip to Lancaster county.
