Made my first visit to Irving Cliff on the advice of a good friend. I was not even aware of the place, but I am ALWAYS on the prowl for first-class craft brews, and this joint did not disappoint! I reviewed the menu before I went, and had my eye on the brisket, but alas it was Tuesday night, so their steamed clams were that nights special (brisket is available on weekends). Upon arrival we walked in, took note of the cool atmosphere, were immediately greeted, and offered a table. We were seated in a nice spot, that gave a good view of the brewery floor. We were told by our server (an attentive, young college fellow), what the current brews were, and he described each in detail (which thoroughly pleased me). As a sometime home brewer, its great when a member of the staff can give you the "skinny" on whats available on tap. I went for a flight to start, opting for the Maple City, Dyberry Creek, Crazy Train, and Honesdale Pale. They were served promptly and I went to work! Our server took our order, and I chose the Blue Ribbon Chili and the fried pickles apps. They arrived and we gorged! Ive had fried pickles in other places, but these were fab! Chili was great too... As we munched and sipped, the BrewMaster (Gary) came to our table to ask how we liked the beers. I let him know that they were SUPERB, where he countered with, "you might also want to sample the Schimpff and the Purple Magic", so on his recommendation I ordered one of each after I had exhausted the flight. They too were phenomenal. Back to dinner...I ordered two dozen of the steamer special, and my two dining companions had the Fish and Chips, and the Slider Flight with Hay Stack Fries. The clams were stellar, and I had the opportunity to taste the others food too...all was De-lish. Gary swung back around a couple more times, which gave me the opportunity for more "beer talk" which I really enjoyed. When we finished up, he offered us a tour of the original Irving Cliff lagering caves, located a few blocks away, and we accepted. We completed our work at the table and after a brief tour of the brewery floor, we traveled to the cave. Gary and his assistant Red went inside, where they lit and placed several tea lights to illuminate the interior. He also set up some additional beer samples that we could enjoy inside. Overall, every aspect of the visit was fantastic, and MUCH more than I expected from just a simple trip to a local brewery for dinner. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Fact is, Im on my way back the end of this week for a redux...I can see BRISKET and a glass of Ichabods Pumpkin in my near future!!! MF

Upon entering the establishment, the front of house and bar area are nicely decorated and provide a nice atmosphere. The dining room on the other hand is separated from the bar by a wall that, in my opinion, ruins the flow of the establishment. The lighting is all overhead fluorescence which makes does nothing for the ambiance. We ordered shrimp and mozzarella sticks as appetizers. We both ordered wings as an entree. The wings were large and meaty and well worth the wing night price. However the sauces, garlic parm and chipotle were "ok". The presentation lacked any imagination as it was just slapped on a plain white plate and sent to the table. The beer options left us with the same feeling as the food. Their drink descriptions sounded delicious but when sampled the beers, they seemed to lack a full flavor profile that would keep me coming back for more. Our waitress was on par. The meal was cooked properly and reasonably priced, and the beer was cold. Other than that, I wasnt impressed. I believe with some finishing touches to the decor, different brewing recipes, and more imagination in the kitchen this place has the potential to have a positive impact on the NEPA community. *The website said they closed at 10, but they actually closed at 9 which was an unpleasant surprise but explains why the waitress asked use how we were doing 5 times in 10 minutes.

Its a 30 minute drive for us from Damascus but would have been worth it for unique food and beers. this would be our 5th time. Nicole has served us twice and both times were very disappointing. There was a party of 5 and 2 individuals at the bar and she would not let my son and I sit in the warehouse section because "she was the only one serving" . We only got 1 round of beers, she ignored the next 2 request, mainly because she was talking to other customers. Even though she asked us twice if we needed another round, she was too busy talking to fill two glasses. I ended up getting our food to go because I was so pissed. End result was another 30 minute drive to eat what was now left overs. The last time she served us we were out of drinks and our food was way too late. We were actually standing up to leave when she graced us with her visit. We planned on getting a couple of growlers to go tonight. Food and beer is great and if we give it another shot, Ill call and make sure shes off. I was in there late Friday afternoon on the 9th. The lady that served us was great and gave us all kinds of info about the cave tours. Wish shed been there tonight.

Neat little brewery by some train tracks in Honesdale, PA. I took a long detour here on the way back home from New York because my wife and I wanted to check out a brewery in the general vicinity of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre area as we were driving by. This one was open on a Sunday, so we stopped for some beer and a snack between lunch and dinner. The four beers we had in a sampler were all good. Maybe nothing to write home about, but all worthy of a pint. There was a solid selection of styles too. As far as food is concerned, we tried ordering two things that were out of stock. Again, we came on a Sunday, so at least it was towards the end of the supply week. Both the mozzarella sticks and fried pickles we ended up having were basically what youd expect from a brewery/pub setting. I cant think of a specific reason Id be coming through Honesdale again, but if I did Id certainly come back here. It was a causal and friendly atmosphere.

I came here because I wanted a quick bite before going to the fair. What a mistake. I ordered at 7PM and the food came out at 9PM. TWO HOURS. The sliders came on a dirty flight board and was overly greasy and luke warm. The order was messed up as well, to add insult to injury. Needless to say I didnt make it to the fair that night. Absolutely a terrible experience. While the beer was good and I might get a growler after my anger subsides, I will never eat there again. Did I mention there were only three tables ordering food and it still took two hours? Stay away!

Drove nearly 40 minutes to try this restaurant. Very much worth the drive. The beer selection is expansive for those with a broad palate of good beer. The food was out quickly and the amount of food you get for your price is so much more than what you pay for. We had the Irish tacos and they are a meal in themselves. This is a place that Honesdale desperately needs in the form of good beer and great dining. You will not be disappointed with stopping here.
