PLEASE DONT LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS THOSE PEOPLE MUST HAVE NEVER EATEN REAL FOOD BEFORE. Let me preface that I’ve only written two reviews in my life both for places where the food was exceptional…this however is not one of them. The décor of the establishment (I’m refraining to use the word restaurant because this place is far from it) was actually quite pleasant and we chose to sit on the outside deck facing the parking lot. Once seated our waiter came over to collect out drink orders and review the menu as this was our first time here. After listening to the waiters incoherent babbling as he rhymed his way through the top dishes we decided to select the recommended crunchy cashew shrimp and Belgian mussels. After nearly 20 minutes our drinks had finally arrived and we were ready to place our orders. I got the prime rib sandwich and was forewarned to get the sauce on the side because “the majority of guests don’t like it” my friends placed orders for the surf in turf, the salmon and some concoction of a burger called the double fisted. After ordering, we slipped into casual conversation taking the nice weather and enjoying our drinks only to be interrupted by one of the other waitresses who stupidly had tried to clear too many things at once and needed one of us to open the door for her. Being a gentleman my friend graciously obliged. After what seemed like forever our appetizers where brought out. Here’s where it starts getting good actually it may be better to rephrase, here’s where is starts getting bad. The shrimp appetizer was four small shrimp that looked like something I would have bought in a box from a 7/11 on a drunken bender and to top it off they were still cold. Guess the chef wasn’t competent enough to punch 2 minutes in on the microwave. The mussels looked to be decent but as soon as we started eating them the sauce didn’t really seem right. This was confirmed as our waiter nonchalantly walked out to inform us that he may have given us the wrong mussels. Regardless wrong sauce or not it wasn’t going to help these poor undercooked excuses for shellfish. I hoped and prayed with no avail that our entrees would redeem the appetizers. You guessed it they were worse. I’ll start off with my prime rib sandwich. Pieces of fatty stringy meat that resembled the texture of a shoe on a hard bun. The specialty sauce the most guest don’t like, I didn’t enjoy either. It resembled the smell of body odor but more pungent and in your face and tasted just like you would imagine. My friend’s double fisted monstrosity was rock hard, you literally could skip that sucker across a pond if you wanted to. Luckily he survived it and I stress the word luckily. There was a freaking bone chip in it that was almost a ½” long. The filet tasted like fresh diarrhea, the crab cake tasted like eating something straight from the Schuylkill, and the salmon (which the waiter asked how my girlfriend would like cooked, I have never heard this anywhere) had some strange pink sauce on it that tasted like salty anchovies with a hint of sweaty balls. I was hesitant at even getting a doggy bag for the ample amount of left overs in fear that my dog would keep me up half the night regurgitating all over the floor. At this point we were just waiting for the check to get the hell out of there. But no…the return of the waitress. She somehow makes the same mistake again! Stupid her grabbed too many dishes a second time. I guess people here either don’t realize when their own two hands are full or they think my friend now works here part time. I failed to mention that our own waiter handed us hot plates of food and never cleared anything off the table making it nearly impossible to eat. All said and done obviously I would never return here to eat anything possibly for drinks which besides the wait I had little to complain about.

I have eaten here more times than I would like to admit, but after the last few, I will never be back. Let me note that I have a couple positive experiences at red cedar, but the negative experiences far outweigh the positive ones. The food has never been excellent in my opinion, but I work late many nights and it is a better alternative than diner or fast food options. On Monday nights during certain periods of the year they offer "all you can eat" mussels. Its not very expensive and seems like a great deal. More than once I have gone in for this offer and made it there fairly early and it was never packed with people, and more than once, they claimed to run out after my second order. That alone would be understandable, but they offered no compensation. No offer to order something else instead, no voucher to come back on a night they will not run out. Nothing. I asked to order something else in place and the offered to give me a discount on something else I ordered. Unacceptable in my opinion. If they had warned me that they may run out, or that they are running low that wouldve been a fair thing to do to at least give me the option to go elsewhere. Since then I have discovered "smokey bones". They have wing night on Mondays and so far have never run out and have given me excellent service and decent food at a fair price. Red cedar should be ashamed of themselves for advertising this special and not being able to make good or at least compensate a customer with something else

Last evening, I had an amazing meal at the Red Cedar Grille! It was my second visit, and I almost ordered again their beef tips special, which I found to be incredibly amazing. But being a steak lover, I had to try their NY strip with steak-cut fries/tiny grilled onions and spinach in a crème sauce. The plating was beautifully done and the combination of flavors was simply mouth-watering. Although the potatoes were placed under the steak, they retained their crispiness on the outside while being perfectly cooked on the inside. I asked that my steak be medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection, which was no small feat for such a thick cut! The creamed spinach was rich and delicious, helping to pull the entrée together. Two of my friends had the lobster bake and another had the prime rib. All were happy with their meals. Our server was friendly and right on top of things. She was there when we needed her, without making those frequent-and-annoying is everything okay? visits to our table. We definitely will be coming back to this restaurant AGAIN AND AGAIN!

This was my second and last time at this place. The first time, was about a month after they opened. I ordered mussels. The mussels were old and had such a weird taste. I could not eat them. We decided to try Red Cedar Grille again because a friend said they had a great experience. Today we ordered there Hop devil "crispy" buffalo wings, biscuits and capri salad. The wings were rubbery. The sauce didnt have any heat to them at all. The capri was bland. Its a shame because this is the perfect time for tasty tomatoes and basil but they were both tasteless. They covered it up with a sweet balsamic. However the balsamic was just too sweet. I couldnt even taste the sliced mozzarella. My guess is their mozzarella is store bought. The biscuits were too salty. I loved the texture and the herb flavoring. I just thought there was too much salt. However, eating the biscuits with the buffalo wings and capri salad added the much needed salt flavor. I dont plan on returning to this place unless its for a beer. Too bad. I really liked the ambience.
