I had the daily special: cajun sockeye salmon with veggies, salsa and rice. I also added the grilled prawns for $4.99. The salmon was too well-cooked and it was dry. It also tasted of nothing. The spices were rubbed on top, but did not appear to penetrate the fillet. The fish appeared to be cooked with no added fat, which can be ok with regular salmon, but sockeye salmon has very little fat itself. This, combined to a thorough cooking technique left it lacking on all levels. The salsa was delicious but had not been brought to room temperature, however the vegetables (mainly zucchini and squash with a few bits of red pepper) were completely bland! They were al dente, but no flavor had been added and no dressing at all, not even salt. The most amazing thing were the prawns, which is why this restaurant gets a 2-star. 5 bay prawns, not very big, but extremely flavorsome! They were juicy, had a smoky taste and were slightly creamy! Delicious! Also delicious was the house Chardonnay: dry and fruity - excellent quality for a $5 glass of wine. I am still not sure how one dish can be so delicious, and the other one so disappointing. The uneveness in cooking qualities suggests more than one chef, however, it also suggests that the maitre d, if they have one, needs to retire as his taste buds are shot!

Had a disappointing experience at my first visit here last night. The manager was not friendly, though the hostess was. When the manager seated me he was not friendly or inviting. My meal arrived and the fish was raw. I had to find someone to let them know and five minutes later the server came and asked how the food was. I had to then again say that the fish was raw so with an apology she took the plate. Roughly 10 minutes later the manager brought my plate where they didnt do a new order but recooked the one I had, which included charred areas. He was very quick to drop it off, a short apology and was gone. Because we were on a specific time schedule, I was not able to finish my meal. The two I was with had already finished theirs mostly before my meal was returned. When my bill arrived there was no reduction in the price or an offer to do so. Poor service to clients all around.

METAL SCREW IN FOOD!! Years ago, I was eating at this restaurant. Chicken Alfredo... As I was eating, I bit down very hard on a small metal equipment SCREW! Because I was young and stupid, I took the measly three hundred dollars and signed off on later responsibility for the restaurant. Since then, I had to have a root canal, after a ton of pain. Slowly, small pieces of the tooth have broken off, and now I found out that the tooth was cracked all the way through the root end. Because I have a fear of losing my teeth, Ive dealt with this pain and tried everything to save the tooth. And now I have no choice, Im losing one of my teeth because someone dropped a metal screw in my pasta! Thats so wrong and unfair! Skip this place!

My husband and I went to Newport Seafood Grill for our 34th anniversary. I ordered the Hazelnut crusted halibut, wild rice and seared brussels sprouts with bacon. The plate was served with two sauces. One sauce was plated around the rice. It consisted of what tasted like cucumber, sour cream, garlic and very light lemon flavor. Very bright and cool tasting. The other sauce was over the brussels sprouts and tasted like apples, horseradish, scallions and cider vinegar. I loved it. The halibut was moist but cooked through. I think it benefitted in holding moisture from the Hazelnut crumble on top. We both cleaned out plates and felt like we had just had on of the best meals ever! The service and atmosphere was wonderful also.

We loved our experience. The atmosphere, our server Casey was wonderful, friendly, attentive and great with suggestions in helping on deciding our menu (was knowledgeable). The food was marvelously delicious. I had chosen a medium rare sirloin steak and razor clam with zucchini vegetable dinner. The Razor Clams were like onion rings but better. Our Waiter had suggested that and it was yummyly divine. I had Strawberry Lemonade to go with it too. My boyfriend had also ordered the fried oyster shots and we ordered four of those and was also delicious. Love our first time there! ;)

"Deluxe" seafood platter consisted of 2 small shrimp. 2 small oysters and 2 pieces of cod for $18. Nothing special. I did mention it to the manager who didnt seem to really care. The bartender was very attentive and wanted to make things right and placed a second order for a couple more shrimp and oysters. I was not "fishing" for more. I just wanted them to know that they were way over priced. Even with easy off/on access to I-5, Ill probably pick someplace else next time through.

This place rocks! Their food is top notch at a very reasonable price. Somehow there is never a wait to get in. I always call ahead expecting them to be packed. As much as I love the convenience of an empty restaurant, I would rather see them busy because they deserve the business. Seriously....great for a date night or family Sunday brunch! I cant say enough. Love, love, love it. And, no I dont know anyone who works there, and no one paid me to say this. :)

I had a terrible dinner yesterday. The food was only warm and the chocolate cake was ice cold. And, the menu has no baked potatoes anymore. I really liked the old Newport Bay before the new "upgrades". When I tried to contact the resturant via email, the email form would not accept my phone number. Yuck! I am very dissapointed in what used to be a really nice resturant. Please bring back the baked potatoes after 4 PM. Sincerely, Suzanne, Salem, OR

What I can say is I think I can make better food at my house. I already came to this restaurant with low expectations because of the ratings but that should have helped this place. It didnt the food was awful. The real clue should have been an empty dinning room at 6:30pm. I will never be back and do not recommended this place to anyone.

I had a competent chicken sandwich and regretted every minute I didnt get the fish special my wife had. Seeing the plates of the various guests (most in the over 55 crowd for some reason?) I could tell that the true fish dishes seemed to be the real attraction. Service was nice. Atmosphere very beige, neutral and unassuming.

I dont recommend this restaurant. They advertised that kids eat free this weekend but that wasnt the case when my husband and I brought our 2 kids. The food also wasnt very good. And it was really awkward because the place was dead. Now I know why. Id choose somewhere else next time.

Had a fantastic surf & turf. The best top sirloin Ive had in years. Great steelhead with a wonderful sauces. Perfectly cooked green beans. And a great salad with their apple cider basil vinaigrette. Had only had Sunday brunch before now. But not anymore.
