Chalinos chips and guacamole are not your average Mexican restaurant chips and guacamole. Everything is freshly made; the flavors are complex, and complimentary. The tequila and mezcal choices are top shelf, and the Michilada is the absolute best Ive found in Portland. Ive been following John Leach since he returned to Portland. I expect hes got a winner in Chalino!

Had a large group dinner here - holy moly, we could not have asked for a better set-up! The food is refined, creative and bright - this is some high quality stuff for Portland. The ambiance was trendy and welcoming. Favorites were the carnitas and trout tostadas, fried chicken and horchata chocolate cake. Definitely will be back with more friends.

To be clear this is not a typical Mexican food joint if thats what youre looking for. It is gourmet Mexican and done VERY well. Portions are not huge (still, plenty) and are super surprising and delightful. Was unexpected and delicious to us, and well definitely be back.

The food here is well thought-out, beautifully put together, and obscenely delicious. Everything is perfectly cooked and seasoned, the drinks are wonderfully balanced and the space is comfortable and inviting. You cant be disappointed walking out of here.

The service was excellent comma the menu was unusual but really delicious. Yes the portions were not huge but you can tell that the ingredients or of high quality and I like that the chef is not shy with spices. We will be back

Great food, love the outdoor seating in the courtyard. Great drinks. My favorite dish was the zucchini, highly recommend! Love that the chefs are also the servers, so they can answer any questions you have about the food.

Food was alright. Just 2 bowls of chips, salsa and guacamole came to $16. The rest of food was ok. Ill stick to Porque No for less than half the price and double the good vibes.

Food was pricey for the small portions. We were expecting Mexican food but it was more eclectic. Interesting options. It was tasty though. Cocktails were good.
