Ive stopped into North 45 once before on a NW 21st pub crawl I did... all I remember from that evening was that I enjoyed the house margarita. Recently tried it again, less intoxicated, and this time we came for drinks and eats. Had to get the margarita again and what do ya know, its still fantastic. $5 at happy hour and it just cant be beat. I hate sweet margaritas, this one is tangy sour and boozy! We went with a large group and I discovered the cute patio area in the back which I never knew existed. Its heated and tented so good to go for all seasons. For food we had some mac & cheese and sliders. The sliders came served 3 high on a big skewer, looking oh so impressive. Sliders tasted like sliders and Mac & Cheese tasted like Mac & cheese, both are hard to screw up. They had a lot of other enticing American appetizers available on their happy hour menu, all of which youd generally expect to see on a pub grub menu. Prices were good, atmosphere was very chill on the back patio, a little fancier inside, all-in-all I had a good time and I can see myself stopping in again.

I want to love this place... but, I cant because of the appalling service. I dont blame the staff, but the owners who are too cheap to hire a waiter. The back patio is packed on a sunny day, but the only staff is a bartender. So, they make you get up and go wait in line at the bar every time you want a drink or to order your food. They are charging full service prices, but it is self service. I am normally a big tipper, but I just cant justify a 20% tip when I have to do all the work. Weve been going here for years. Not into the night scene, but a great patio out back on a sunny day. The beer selection is okay, but not great... very limited to Belgian beers. The food is pretty good, especially the mussels. And, they do some nice salads in the summer using seasonal heirloom tomatoes, etc.

Just discovered their hidden back patio last night, after being to North 45 several times. Although the service was unfortunately disappointing, I was glad to at least enjoy the patio time with friends. The food is good for a bar, though nothing to necessarily seek out on its own. North 45 does however boast a good happy hour with several drink options (beer, wine, well, etc) and some cheaper eats that sounded pretty good - especially at that happy hour price point! The other time Id been in, sat inside for a drink with friends, so service wasnt a real issue (for leisurely hang out time). Overall: good drinks, good middle of the road prices.

I always come here since it was an early date spot for my wife and I when we first started seeing each other. Good scotch and whiskey selection, though you cant really go by their list. They really should update it. But they had some Macallan Rare @ $39 so I cant complain too much. I recommend ordering water or ice back since they go to town with the ice if you order on the rocks. Even if you order with one cube you get a bunch. Good beer selections as well. Gets crowded in the evenings, especially if the patio is closed.

More than meets the eye! It looks small from outside but has a spacious outdoor patio in the back. Beer selection is eclectic and did not suit my taste. No pbr or similar option. Excellent bar though. Food is very good especially their mussels offered in different styles of delicious broth with toasted bread. Crowd is on the well dressed young professional side like Rontoms but not as obnoxious as the pearl. Definitely better in summer with outdoor seating. Not a dive. Awesome mussels. Plenty of whiskey.

Trendy and fairly popular gastro pub in the heart of NW. Theyve got a nice selection of whiskey and less standard liquors. Cocktails are well balanced and pack a punch without being too boozy. The prices are reflective of the quality of food and the area. The patio is a bit of a diamond in the rough and is large enough that youre rarely hard pressed to find a table. Not dog friendly.

This place has a huuuuggeee whiskey selection, which is pretty much all I should have to say. There is also a patio out back in the summer with a bar built in, which is good, because the inside has only a few tables. The menu is small but delivers in taste. They also really have the lighting down. I hate when places are too dark or too bright, it silly, but this place does it right.

Pros: Huge outdoor patio out back so is fun especially in the summer. Massive selection of imported Belgian Beers. Convenient to other bars/ restaurants on 23rd (so a good bar hop stop). Good happy hour. Cons: Service can be slow. Why no Belgian Beers on tap? A fun bar if youre in the neighborhood, gets crazy busy at the weekend that creates a fun party atmosphere.

This place is one of my favorite options for a well done cocktail and tasty food late night on NW 21st. The drinks and food are a tiny bit over-priced compared to some other Portland bars, but the quality is pretty high, and the travelers pub theme is pretty cool. Its a popular place without a ton of space, so on weekend nights securing a table can be a crapshoot.

What a great location with a very trendy patio. Id love to tell you about the food and drinks. Unfortunately after sitting at a table on the patio for 30 minutes without being acknowledged by the staff, we decided to pop next door instead. The Dark Horse pub on the otherhand had fantastic service, wonderful food and tasty cocktails. Wont be recommending North 45

Heres what to expect: 1> Watery 4 oz. drinks with a trace of liquor -- $6 and up. 2> Mediocre food (such as the $12 hamburger and fries). 3> Service so bad, youll be getting up to grab whatever you need. 4> A self-ingratiating %20 service charge for parties > 4 people. WCS: If your friends insist on going to this place, eat beforehand and bring a flask.

Hello, I know it can happen by accident aat any restraunt but three of us west there for dinner before the cirque du solei show Saturday May 1st. Two of us found hair if our food. I sent my salad back right away and my my girlfriend had some hair in her Mac & Chez after she had finished almost all of it. We paid, left and will not be back ever. Joe

Great backyard patio! Totally enclosed. They sometimes do oyster bbqs in the summer. The happy hour beer specials are good. I havent eaten there often, but I like the old world atmosphere they have inside. Large dark wood bookcases and maps! The bathrooms are really clean too. Not often one would mention that, but I think it is worth noting.

Nice patio and wait staff. The sliders were so-so and mac & cheese tasteless. I ordered a bottle of pear cider and discovered when the bill came it was $9.50 for the bottle (less than 16oz). When I tried to call to confirm I was charged correctly they hung up the phone twice on me...I feel ripped off and certainly will NEVER go back!
