Not great for music, but Id go back to catch a movie or for trivia. The space is intimate, and the balcony is nice (with great seats). Acoustics are poor and stage is small and low, resulting in poor sight lines from the open floor downstairs. Show I saw tried to compensate for poor sound by increasing volume, only making matters worse, and hurting our ears. They also have no light show setup; just two lights strapped to the balcony railing. This means one color flooding the stage for the entire show, and also lots of shadows on the wall behind the band. Again, the place just isnt set up for music, and I wouldnt go back for tunes unless I just had to see the band/artist. Lastly, stair lighting in balcony is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I watched at least a dozen people struggle, many almost falling on their face!

I love the movies that find their way here and its great to have a place where you can kick back in comfy seats and tip back an adult beverage. Food service to the audience is slow though and selection limited. I would recommend grabbing a slice of pizza or some popcorn rather than ordering something from "the kitchen". The movie was already half over by the time our "nachos" came out. ($7 for chips with melted cheese and diced tomatoes) I will admit that there was some confusion with the order and we were comped an additional adult beverage but it wasnt worth the wait.

A cozy pub theater with balcony seating and full bar with food for purchase as well. They play a TON of classic films. I just saw Aliens there last week. They even create themed drinks based on the movie showing! Although they didnt do that for Aliens. Some people just cant hold their acid blood very well I guess... In addition to films, they also host events such as Geeks Who Drink, a weekly trivia quiz with gift cards to the theater. And dont miss Drag Queen Bingo with tubes of lipstick to cross off your numbers. Its a blast!

The movies are super cheap (only $3), the beer is cheap ($12 for a pitcher), and the food is decently priced! The theater is a refurbished church which makes for an amazing atmosphere. I like it better than the living room (which is also walking distant from my apartment). Although, They only play 3 or 4 movies a day unless they have a special event. So this is something you might want to plan a day before unless youre really flexible. They also do a free screening of Portlandia every other Friday or something like that.

This isnt a high class establishment, but you wouldnt know it from the fantastic artwork adorning damn near everything. Even the pipes in the bathrooms has the classic, inspired design. It is maintained as a historic movie theater with vintage seats, vintage toilets, vintage everything. The whole place is made of old equipment that was designed to last 50 years. One thing: The stereo could use more love. Not expecting Skywalker ranch here guys, but hoping for better imaging and sound projection to the amazing balcony.

This isnt my favorite place to see a movie (though they do have $12 movie+beer+burger on Weds), but they have some great events (Portlandia, various sports games, OMSI SciencePub etc) and they are often free. I dont generally love McMenamins beers, but they choose wisely, and feature a guest tap or two as well. The burgers and apps are decent, avoid the (reheated) pizza! Worth going for the space alone - its a converted church and has an awesome feel. Movie seating upstairs, mostly tables and chairs down.

Hey McMenamins...You know that song with the lyrics "Burn Down The Mission..." ? ? Well, you should do that..Yeah, burn down the mission theater and start over. Just sayin. Crappy tude from the server, unpredictable hours and days of operation, even though they are posted. Took two trips to actually find the place open and then there was nowhere to park. Sheeesh...!! Oh, and the menu ? Popcorn, Pizza and beer...Right ? Sorry guys, that place isnt worth the time....yours or mine !!!

Love the historical building. Inside of the theatre transports you back in time when going to see a movie was extravagent and people dressed up for their night out. The balconies are gorgeous and ive yet to find a bad seat in the theatre. Having a service dog can make a trip to the movies difficult as theatres cram as many people as possible into an auditorium. The Mission makes it a real treat for us to see a film. Plenty of room for both of us !

I am the biggest fan of everything Mc Menamins. Mission Theater is great since you can catch movies for only 3 bucks!! Burger, brew and movie is such a good deal. And if you are a movie fan like me, you should do triple features. Ruby beer is a must if you are not into IPA and want something a little more fruity and sweet. They do not have movies during the weekend, so always check whats playing before you go.

Whats not to love? An old labor organizing hall where you can sip suds while watching decent films. Give them and other McMenamins outposts your business and thank them for being some of the best microbrew boosters in the biz and for working the preservation of old buildings into the mix for many decades before many even glimpsed what we might lose. Hooray to the Mission!

In the 90s it was cool...... a picture of beer was like $5 to $7 ....... now with a tip its like $15 to $20 ....... this kind of things happening everywhere in Portland now, I think from all the movie support people moving in ...... so grab a case of Pabst blue ribbon and live in your car under the Freemont bridge with me young man ...... well be happier there anyhow

I love catching a movie or event at the Mission. It is a fun experience to watch something on the big screen in the balcony. Unfortunately they only serve pizza for food and have a limited tap list. The pizza they serve really isnt that tasty either. Ive learned to come here just for the show. I then try to take in Happy Hour up the street at the Blue Moon.

Went to a great show here! The seating is set up pretty well for having a consistently good view of the stage. The food was pricey in relation to what you get (but its a McMenamins, no surprise there), and one of the vents had the kitchen crews loud music filtering up which was pretty distracting. Aside from those issues it was a good time!

The acoustics here arent the best and the stage is tiny. But what else do you expect from a McMenamins place? The foor was covered with chairs and tables so everyone felt the need to sit and chat while the band was up on stage. The best I can say is that the beer was reasonably priced and the lines werent too long.

Nifty theater, showing classic movies, we saw the 5th element. The line is really long to both get in and to get food/beverages. Perhaps its due to the movie being shown, but very long lines. Other patrons seemed to not notice when they kick back in their chairs they hit our table spilling our beer/snacks. Meh.

I really liked this place. The idea of eating McMenamins while watching a cheap movie is always a win. I enjoyed how large the room is. It was not stuffy at all. The parking was horrible. That is the only reason I rarely go there. If I didnt have to hunt for parking, I would be there all the time.
