This is a nice looking building from the outside with parking on the side. Inside, though, it is one of the darkest restaurants I have ever been inside. Is McMenamins trying to continue its flagrantly cheap ways by not providing decent lighting? An hour in this place will give you a pounding headache due to the low light eye strain. One half of this place, around the bar, has decent (I think, it was hard to tell while stumbling in the dark) places to sit and a high ceiling. The other half provides views of the bathrooms from your table - how nice is that. If your idea of a festive night out is sitting inside your closet trying to make out who is sitting across the table from you then you would feel right at home here. The food is typical McMenamins indifference: flat drinks, over priced salads and sandwich-type things and tiny portions of deep fried cheese things still dripping grease. Unlike other McMenamins, the bartender was nice but the server was typically forgettable. This McMenamins is down the street from Home Depot. Maybe they can get a good deal on LIGHT BULBS.

husband spent a wk on biz trip. couldnt b there myself, so i searched googlemaps for restaurants near his hotel, the holiday inn xpress & triangulated restaurants with good ratings by customers, less than a mile away for tired husbands, and what i know he likes, so i suggested several different nearby places. picked this one b-cuz MOST but not all reviews were favorable, it was a bewpub, found out they have a nice patio & it was about 1/2 mi from hotel. he says it was an easy road to get to w/out the expwy, quite good brewpub housemade beers & whiskey, was a very pleasant courtyard to relax in & he loved the fish & chips. also the west african curried rice. they ended up going there all week. thanx to all who reviewed, even the neg ones, cuz i take those into consideration too, but overall a nice place according to hubby.i have found this way of researching food, travel & products to be very successful, especially w/honest customer comments.

It saddens me to give this place one star. Id love to give it zero, but Google wont let me. I literally walked out of there last night after waiting to order for 10 minutes. I watched the wait staff stand by the outside cash register the entire time, pretending to be busy and waiting for happy hour to end. Our table was filthy as well. This is the third time in a row over an four month period that this has happened. One time we waited 20 minutes to order. Ridiculous. Do not go to this McMenamins. There are plenty of others to choose from! I dont normally write reviews, but this repetitive experience pushed me to write one.

Experience was okay. It would have been nice to know that the bar is open seating (instead of waiting at hostess station for 5 minutes). Being a microbrewery, I was hoping to be emersed in the total microbrewry experience... instead I was made to feel uncool for not knowing what kind if beer I like. In general, I felt neglected and had to search out someone to help me. I got the sense that the staff could careless that customers were there. I think you need to cater towards the lesser experienced beer drinker to draw in new clientele. Once you get new clientele you need to draw them in with the beer and unique food.

Theres normally a good crowd, but we still get seated right away. As are mentioned of several McMenamins, the service can sometimes be a little slow, but it really seems dependent on how crowded it is at this location. Thereve been lots of times when weve had great service. The food is always very tasty. For us, its def a step above the average bar food. We also enjoy the happy hour menu. Weve had the truffle fries, pork sliders, tuna sliders and green beans off the happy hour menu and all have been good. Dont forget the cocktails... Edgefield fizz is a favorite! We will continue to return!

Dear McMenamins, thank you for wasting my time. Your food can be vanilla, but good-- your beer too. Even if your service is slow, I get it sometimes, but Im glad it also always comes incomplete, hostile and like salt in a wound. Thank you for ignoring me for 15 minutes even while acknowledging my arrival. Thank you for not knowing anything on your menu and not offering to find out, and thank you for not even giving me a full menu. Way to ruin my mood on this sunny day. Glad I live five minutes from here...

This was my last visit to a McMennamins location. I will not continue to do business with the entire outfit. I have yet to have superb customer service from any of the locations. The food is always sub-par (I had wilted dead lettuce in my salad). Unless you are stopping off for some tots and beer you will probably be disappointed. Even those items are overpriced unless its happy hour. I just wasted and hour of time and $30 only to still be hungry because I couldnt eat the food they served.

The brewer at this place makes the best brews ive had out of all of the mcmenamins ive been to, hell he makes some of the tastiest beers ive had in Portland and thats saying alot. im not talking about their flagship beers those are a bit boring but the small batches are usually amazing. the atmosphere of this place is cozy a good place to just go sit and have a good conversation with good beer. food isnt great but it isnt bad either. highly recommended.

We have been here twice in the late afternoon on a weekday and it was not at all busy either time. Our waiters were always very friendly and professional. The food is usually a little wait, but is always top-notch. We highly recommend getting their beer flight to taste 6 samples of some very unique beers. This location offers a very unique atmosphere that makes for a fun afternoon.

Its a pub people! If you expect great cuisine, you might want to go elsewhere. If you want a great selection of craft beer and pub grub with your peeps its great. In general, McMenamins has slow service so allocate some time. This location gets busy at lunch but I was seated and provided a Hammerhead in short order. The Reuben with Cajun tots is a good choice.

Im OK with McMenamins. There is still a focus on quality local options since these guys are a family business and invested in the region - especially Portland. You know what youre getting into food wise, its reliable. Plus, when Im trapped at the home Depot for hours with my husband, I can find some relief in a glass of wine at this place, which is next door.

I see these 20 something, probably employees giving a 5 star review for this establishment. I am well into my sixties and I know what a 1 star meal is and I know what a 5 star meal is, This place hasnnt changed in 5 years. I know because I swore I wood never go back 5 years ago. Dont waste your time if your looking for good food!

Pretty standard McMenamins... Meaning busy AF. Theyre a brewery at this location though and that puts the beer quality way up. They tend to keep the beers classic and good and the food is usually on point. I particularly like the staff at this location, theyre friendly and mellow and usually relaxed. We go there pretty often
