I really wanted this place to be good, but was SO disappointed. I phoned in an order for two traditional Gyros, a meat Maza plate, and an order of Falafel. When I arrived, they hadnt even begun to assemble my order, even though there were only two small groups dining inside. The girl behind the register didnt seem to know what she was doing, and sent me out the door without half of my order, which I had to go back and retrieve. That was the best part of the experience. The food was a major disappointment. I eat regularly at two very good Mediterranean restaurants, where the food is well prepared and fresh. The gyro meat and the chicken schwarma were extremely salty. The lettuce on the gyros was wilted and the tomatoes were mealy. The dipping sauce for the Falafel consisted of a tablespoon of something that tasted spoiled, so I threw it out. The items on the maza platter were dumped into a large open takeout container so that they had all run together, and the portions were tiny, with two triangles of bread to dip in everything. Normally a newer restaurant will put on its best face. If this is the best that Mirage has to offer, it wont be around for long, when places like Gyro House and Blue House Cafe do it so much better.

This place was great. I think we visited them right after they opened, because there were a few blunders, but the food was top notch, very delicious. Id go back to see if the service has gotten better. We had asked for more appetizers because they were so good - the main chef came out to deliver them, and he looked a bit angry and asked us what was wrong with it. We told him we just wanted more, but he seemed offended somehow, perhaps a language barrier. The payment system was also very inconvenient. We had to remember the name of everything we ordered, it wasnt written down so they could type it back in. We also didnt know if we were supposed to ask for a check or just stand up and hover around the front. Basically we spent an extra 15 minutes in here, from wondering when someone would check on us when we were obviously done, to trying to figure out how to pay and how much we owed. I figured if Im greeted at the door and shown to my table, and my order is taken and written down by a waiter, that I would be getting a check and someone was watching my table. Apparently not. Still, Id go back to see if service has improved because their food was phenomenal.

Everything that could go wrong, went wrong here. When I got there, at the height of lunchtime, nobody was there. I was standing alone in the restaurant with another couple who also had no idea what was going on. Outside the front entrance is a beat up opened box that apparently once contained a fryer. The other couple almost left after a while waiting with no service. A male eventually showed up but refused to take our order and said that the woman must do it. The owner/server showed up in her car 10 minutes later, took my order but didnt bring any water or drinks. She finally brought me my order, but it was the wrong thing. I took it anyway because I was tired of waiting. It was cold. It was barely edible. The male didnt do much of anything but seemed to be angry and irritated at everything. Afterward, she couldnt figure out how to work the register and insisted I give her cash, not credit. Dont go here.

Ive been wanting to eat here since reading good reviews last year, but after reading a few recent negative reviews I was hesitant. But the food sounded really good, so I came yesterday and had the Sunday buffet. It was awesome and under $12 for such a feast! Wonderful hummus; something called something like baba anoush, a really flavorful dip-like dish made from eggplant and more. The salad had a very pleasant olive oil type dressing. Chicken leg/thigh with wonderful seasoning; stir-fried vegies with an awesome thin gravy-like sauce was great over lightly seasoned white rice (basmati ?); flavorful meatballs with a sauce including diced tomatoes; and a tasty seasoned rice that was yellow in color. I dont get out to Hillsboro often, but I want to eat there again!

I had the pleasure of eating here on the first of March, 2016. I have lead a lucky enough life to have traveled to many places throughout my life including Hawaii, California, Berlin, Potsdam, Holland, and Sydney Aus. At each of these locations, I have eaten at several Mediterranean eateries and I can say without doubt Mirage Mediterranean Grill in Hillsboro of all places has the best gyro I have ever eaten. Im looking forward to trying more of the menu. The pictures of items on the menu strewn along the upper wall above the counter as is commonplace in crappy Mexican restaurants did not make me hopeful for the quality of the food but once I received my dish and had a bite, I knew I was lucky to have stuck around and ordered. Ill definitely be coming back.

I am a little surprised by the five star reviews from other patrons. My boyfriend and I tried this place and it was just awful. I ordered the Mezza with dark meat chicken and the chicken was like small pieces of jerky. I did enjoy the falafel though. We typically go to the Salam on Orenco, which is WAY better then Levant (in my opinion), and less expensive. My boyfriend ordered the skewers with rice, and we arent sure what was up with the rice; it was NOT basmati as advertised... Our order was over $30 for just 2 items, and they dont even serve alcohol. TMI here, but we headed to Seattle the next day and I had the worst diarrhea from Levant. If I hadnt of pulled over and ran into Safeway I would have probably crapped my pants. I will never eat here again!

Tried Lavant for the first time today, they won a customer today. The food was excellent!! I ordered the lamb kabab mini platter and the falafel appetizer. The chunks of lamb meat on the kabab were flavorable and tender. The falafel were probably the best Ive ever had, outstanding. The rice and salad served with the kabab were also really good. The owner served us and suggested that my friends order the Kafta platter. They raved about it and the owner talked to us about the lamb and where he sourced it and the work he puts into it. Also, the restaurant is clean, and has a really good ambiance. Overall, a very positive dining experience and I will be eating there again and again.

McMinnville Wednesday Date
My husband and I are retired and every Wednesday we go on a date and try new eating establishments. On 4/18/13 we came to Mirage. I must say what a surprise... we had recently had lunch at Jasmine in Anahiem Ca and thought it was the best Mediterranean food we had eaten and even topped Mediterranean Grill in Bellevue Wa. This is hands down far better. Im glad I ignored the negative reviews on Yelp and just went for it. The Lamb Shank was so tender WOW! We also had Vegetable Soup which normally I do not like and it was very good, salad very fresh and the combo appetizer was excellent . But now lets get to the good part the DESERTS OMG!!! Try them all.
