I was fortunate to arrive just before a lunch rush but it turned out staff was more than capable of dealing with the customers (many of them families) and my service was excellent. All of them were very helpful and even staff other than my server would check in with me. The fish and chips were out! Nooo. (There are burgers everywhere in Astoria but, goodness, this is seafood land and I can get a good burger anywhere these days.) But I was saved by the specials, in this case fried clams (not strips, but whole clams) and fries. They brought out my lunch before Id gotten far with my coffee and the battering was perfect, the clams delicious and the fries were some of the best Ive had. After several decades obsessing over beer Ive mostly given it up (and shed about 45 pounds) but since Buoy is a brewpub and particularly a brewpub producing lagers, I wanted to give them a try. The Helles, which is a traditional German pale lager with a delicate balance of hops and malt, is very difficult to pull off because even the tiniest flaw or off-flavor will be obvious. The PNW is ale country and there are few breweries willing to put the time and effort into true lagers -- and their Helles was one of the best Ive ever had -- comparable to lagers from Victory Brewing in Pennsylvania and Great Lakes Brewing in Cleveland. Highly recommended and Im now very curious about the other lagers. Since this was a lovely sunny day in late December (no, really) the dining area was particularly pleasant as there are ceiling-to-floor windows along two walls. It looks like they can open one entire wall in the summer and I will definitely be back to see that.

Beer, location, and atmosphere were good. Hostess was friendly. Server was matter of fact - neither friendly nor rude. Did an okay job though. Food was okay - as with previous reviews, burger bun was soggy on the bottom. PROBLEM - found no less than 5 pieces of hair on my wifes plate. Ranged in length from about 3/4" to over 4". When brought to our servers attention, her only comment was, "Well there were a couple of dogs on the patio earlier". I dont believe the hairs came from the dogs. Probably from someone in the kitchen not covering their hair and their beard. There werent any hairs anywhere else on the table or on us. However, even if they were from the dogs, that is the liability they accept by allowing dogs on their patio. Never an apology or another word however, our server did subtract the charge for the burger. Next time we visit Astoria, we will try somewhere else. I hope if you decide to go to the Bouy Brewery, you have a good experience.

Ill start off by saying, Id be considered a beer snob. I LOVE local, craft beer!!! I was reluctant to visit Buoy Beer Co as Id never had their beer, and thought about visiting a different brewery in town. But with Buoy right on the water my wife and I figured what the heck. Boy were we not disappointed!! We were shown to our table right away. The server came over somewhat quickly, even though she just had 4 other tables that had just come in. She knew her stuff when it came to BEER!!! I ended up getting a sampler flight, only down side is she wouldnt let me take the cool beer flight home. It was very cool. The food was as excellent as the beer, although a little slow to come out, we went right at the tail end of the lunch rush, what can you say, they were busy. If youre in Astoria Oregon or stopping by or within 100 miles, you must stop here!!

Buoy now rivals Fort George as the best brewery spot in Astoria. Why? Unlike Fort George, its on the Columbia. I watched a tiny pilot ship come up alongside a gigantic freight ship, to let the pilot shimmy up the ladder, to go to work. While not as large as Fort George, they do have plenty of space, in both their restaurant and back bar area with a garage door opening onto a patio where you can watch the train go by. While it doesnt have outdoor seating like Fort George, you can still feel the fresh air and sunshine in their back bar area when the back door is open. Thats the location - the food and beer were also top notch. I highly recommend the salmon jerky, which is a great deal and goes great with beer. I also loved the glass window where you can watch (and hear) sea lions snoring under the docks.

Just arrived here from Las Vegas for a relaxing vacation. I had a cup with me n the bartender told me I couldnt have it. I said "ok no problem" n chugged the contents which were non alcoholic. The bartender pretty much freaked out telling me "NOPE you cant have that HERE. NOPE NOPE" while pointing at the door. I thought we were being kicked out from her attitude so we were leaving n other employees said we were still welcome. We sat back down at the bar and felt uncomfortable but were going to eat n grab some drinks. She kept being negative about other things so we decided to leave. They lost some pretty good customers. I dont know the bartenders name but she had brown hair and was heavy set. It was Sunday at 7:30pm.

this is a local talking. went to dinner for my daughters bday. spent 164 dollars on the meal. while we were eating we were seeing many things that made us worry about cleanliness. i just about lost it when i saw one of the cooks reach down scratch his balls and continue handling food. saw another one of the cooks picking his nose and another continually wiping his face and nose. that was 3 out of the 5 working there i stopped watching because i didnt want what i saw to spoil my daughters day. To top it off the quality of the food seemed poor. for a price like that i expected way more. I will never be back. If your a tourist looking to enjoy the beautiful town of Astoria please dont taint your experience by visiting buoy beer.

OK no doubt this is the place to see and be seen the night before the Dark Ales Fest at the famous Ft George Brewery but why wait 30+ minutes for a table at a place that has a killer view of the Columbia and seasonal wailing sea lions (or seals, Im no oceanographer!)? Because the beer is legit, the grilled cheese last weekend was "too" cheesy [great problem!], and they have bison burgers - yes, bison burgers! Oh and did I mention that the fact they have a bar (theres 2 bar areas!) where you can grab a delicious beer or nonalcoholic beverage is in a separate room so you dont have to look like youre stalking for a table is great? Last thing: went there over the summer and I just have 3 words for you - Salmon Jerky! YUMMMMM!

Uninspired, modest beer. Painfully expensive food. Pseudo-gourmet fish dishes. Incredibly rude help (I couldnt believe it). Long wait time. Great marketing. Decent looking facility. Lots of money went into making this operation look great, while its the epitomy of mediocrity. Of course, thats just my opinion. Unfortunately, there arent many better options in town. I initially gave 2 stars but the more I thought about my experience there and knowing who runs the place, I had to change it to 1 star. We should demand more from our local establishments as they represent a pillar of our community. However, there is one old bar on the other side of town which does some of the most amazing burgers youve ever tasted.
