After a day of shopping at the Cincinatti Premium Outlets, my boyfriend and I had the wonderful experience of dining at the Red Onion Cafe. We found this place on a whim, and sat at the bar enjoying an Oberon while we waited for one of about 10 tables in this little place. The menu reads "We will never be the cheapest, only the best" but for as delicious as these dishes sound, I think the value is spot on. I chose to try the special of the night, Chicken Breast Roulade: tender chicken, mushrooms, spinach and aged provolone served on a sweet corn risotto, highlighted with a roasted corn vin blanc w/ salad and herb vinaigrette. I cant even begin to explain how amazing this dish tasted. It is definitely one of my favorite things I have ever eaten, right next to the Salmon en Croute at Jays Seafood. My boyfriend had the Crabby Patty sandwich, which seems to be a pretty popular item since the sign outside said "Come hug a crab cake." It was definitely very tasty, as were the fries and cole slaw it came with. Lastly, judging by how good the main courses were, we had to get a couple desserts to go: Chocolate Layer Cake with Hazelnut filling, and a White Chocolate Cheesecake. MmmMMM! So, if you are ever in Monroe, OH, I highly recommend stopping by the Red Onion Cafe on Main Street!

After coming here nearly every Friday for several months, Id like to think the bartender could at least make eye contact or make some attempt to make us feel welcome. My girlfriend and I like to have a couple beers, some appetizers and a light dinner on Friday after work. Its our Friday ritual. We always sit at the bar so we dont tie up the limited tables which I understand have to turn for a restaurant (and server) to make a profit. While the food is outstanding and the beer selection is good, the bartender is horrible. Thats after months of making sure she was tipped well (over 20%). As much as I like this place, I WONT tolerate mediocre service, especially when Im giving them my hard-earned money. We wont be back. Shame on me for returning so many times. I REALLY wanted to feel at home here.

My wife and I loved the red onion before. Today was our first time back since it reopened, and we were very disappointed. The service was horrible. We were the only ones there at around 4pm and the first server that helped us was fantastic. But then she left and another one came in and all she did was hangout in the kitchen. We could hear her and another employee in the back laughing and talking, but she only came out once to check on us, then came out again after we had been done eating for about 10 minutes waiting for our check. She just walked up to us and looked at us. I found it very odd. So then I asked for the check. She was very impersonal and seemed to act like she had better things to do than wait on us. I enjoyed my Philly Cheesesteak, but my wifes shrimp Alfredo was slightly bland.

I live in Cincinnati but have a lot of friends in Dayton, so Id been looking for a halfway point to meet for lunch or dinner and spotted the Red Onion Café on the web. Im glad I found it! The food was very good - I had the portobello mushroom sandwich and a delicious cup of white bean soup made with black forest ham; my friend had a spinach salad that came topped with a beautiful fillet of salmon. There were lots of Bells beers on tap, and the atmosphere was modern, but casual and cozy. The servers were friendly and very helpful. I look forward to coming back for dinner some time!

Finally a middle place between my Cincinnati friends and my place that has great food! I had the bloody Mary and the salad with apple and smoked gouda (omg i loved it so much I wasnt even that hungry and ate the whole freaking plate cause I just couldnt stop!) portions are a good size, pretty big (or at least their salads are) which ran around 8-9 bucks. I can understand how people say theyre over priced. to add chicken to a salad it was an addition $5 which was off putting. However, the base prices are pretty fair I think for the quality your getting. I recommend this place highly!

I have been going to the Red Onion Cafe for years. Staff is friendly and remembers you. Full service bar and catering. The actual restaurant is small and intimate, located in a historic building. Youd never expect such interesting and fun food, its always changing and it always has your favorites. Great for a date or for family or even to read a book while you eat. I love going there for my own birthdays. My favorite is the roast beef sandwich and french fries with crumbled blue cheese on top. So filling and satisfiing. Try it out!

My family has had the pleasure of dining at The Red Onion Cafe for years. This quaint historic restaurant has the absolute best food and service than any other restaurant in Cincinnati or Dayton. The food will leave your mouth watering for days! The Red Onion Chef came from The Maisonette Restaurant in Cincinnati. The whole staff at The Red Onion Cafe treats all customers like family. My Favorites are the Filet Mignon, Salmon, and Giant Grilled Shrimp. The Red Onion Gets 5 Stars ***** For Best Food, Best Customer Service, & Best Atmosphere.

I paid a visit to the Red Onion on a whim, and though there isnt much parking and its easy to miss your first time round, once inside the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was scrumptious and service was great even though they were packed for the lunch hour. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a casual, delicious lunch at reasonable prices. I had the fillet mignon hoagie with provolone cheese. Mouthwatering!

The Red Onion Cafe is defiantly a hidden gem. The food is amazing, you can tell that everything is homemade and fresh which makes it an enjoyable experience in itself. The only thing that Im not to fond of is the service. It is family owned so I would expect a more family feel but thats not always the case. Its not terrible but It would be nice if the waitresses and bartender would crack a smile when theyre handling guests.

What a wonderful place! You sign in when you come in the door, and then we had to wait just a little while for a table, but the wait was more than worth it! The service was amazing -- the waitress shared the history of the restaurant, and it was clear how proud she is to be there. And the food.... it really is so good it makes you moan. Well be going back!

Monster nachos and cheese wasess than monstrous. Missing black beans and pico de Gallo, shrimp Caesar salad charged 11.49, it was less than a cup of food in a bowl and made with wilted ice burg with no croutons.
