I am rating this 100% upon their weekend brunch menu, which consists of an open buffet, an omelet station, and a waffle station where the employees make the waffles for you. I tend to get the chocolate chip and blueberry waffles with red raspberry sauce. Very good! Omelets never disappoint. I always walk out painfully full and happy. My only wish is that they had cheddar only as a cheese instead of cheddar jack, because cheddar is lactose free, but Monterey jack isnt. Im lactose intolerant, so I end up taking a Lactaid. My only food complaint is that their mixed fruit contains grapefruit and orange mixed in with melon, grapes, etc. The problem with this is that everything ends up soaking in the citrus juice making the other fruit taste tangy and sour. Unfortunate waste of fresh fruit. Their coffee is also disgusting, but there are 3 different local coffee shops all within a block or two, and the people at Union seem ok with you bringing a cup. At least Ive never had a problem. In terms of the staff, they give the impression of being truly happy and friendly, which makes me feel happy and is a nice way to start the day. However, they recently hired a couple new omelet cooks that look a bit rough around the edges (not fitting with the Union look) and complained about working, openly counting down to when they could close up shop. Very disappointing. I miss the old omelet guy. He transferred to Balboa in Grandview.

Love this place. The chicken pad thai is amazing even though its expensive. Very nice flavor and I like the hints of naturyness with the ingredients they use. Very gourmet. They always serve me strong yet smooth and well mixed drinks. You always get messed up off a couple even when you cant taste the alcohol. There top shelf long islands hit you like ninjas. lol They always treat me like a princess even though im a target for bullshit attitudes. I always tip big cause the people there are badass and they deserve it! :D You get the best service when you dont come at the busiest time. There is an occasional attitude but I think a couple people working there just really dont enjoy serving the LGBT community. Plus its overwhelming when you have to deal with soo many people all at the same time. They have a tendancy to bond with there customers sometimes and thats what I call getting treated like royalty! :D

I used to love Union ten years ago....a few things that have changed are the atmosphere and the food. Although the decor is great and I certainly understand the chic thing they are desperately overreaching to attain, I miss the old casual days. Another thing is the food. I enjoy the fire phad thai but it remains inconsistent in heat and flavor. Perhaps the biggest issue they have is service. We get it...youre young, youre cute, and youre popular. That does not give you the right to be rude. Take note, not every server there suffers from this, but the management better find out fast which apples are rotten or the good ones will suffer. Union has the ability to really thrive...however they must get their heads out of the clouds and realize they are not the be all end all....after all, Level is just down the street and Ive never had a bad experience there.

They double charged us for drinks and dinner and the manager is not even sure if they can give us a refund. I celebrated my 21st there and had a great time, so my boyfriend and I went back this week for a few drinks and dinner. We wanted to go down the street back to our car for cigarettes, so my boyfriend left his card with a bartender as reassurance that we were not there to get drinks and skip the check. When we got back, my boyfriend got his card back, we had a few drinks, he paid in cash, and we went home. The entertainment was fantastic and the bartenders were polite and attentive, but the fact that they swiped his card AND took his cash is baffling. It strikes me as financially incompetent. Having called the bar as soon as we found out, apparently they cant do anything tonight because headquarters is closed. Definitely wont be back after this ordeal.

We always have a good time at the Union. Their Long Islands are ALWAYS good, last night I tried a Donkey Punch and it was deliciously sweet. Dangerous because it tastes like fruit punch so it sneaks up on you! We had a combo sampler with cheese curds, potato skins and twice grilled wings. The curds were ehhh ok. But the potato skins and wings were wonderful!!!!! Now I know why my friend always orders the skins. Its always crowded when we go and 95% of the people are very nice and will strike up a conversation with anyone! It was husbands first time going with me and my gay friends and he was impressed with the atmosphere and food. Last night we didnt know they were doing a showing of RuPauls Drag Race and Nina West was hosting with special guest Alexis Michelle...they were amazingly sweet and so much fun. Its always a party at the Union.

They have very good brunch! Probably the best in the city. Matter of fact, the greatest in the city. The food is immaculate. My only concern with the restaurant is they didnt have a set price for children under 12, hell under 5. They charged me full price for a 3 year old with the stomach the size of a penny. We enjoyed our food and the service was great but the pricing is ridiculous for children. A waiter for a table next to ours told a lady he would have to charge her infant, who was no more than 6 months, full price for tasting her food lol They need prices for children, period! $14 is mighty steep for them, dont really care what the excuse is.

I saw this review and had to comment on it. They wrote... I enjoy the fire phad thai but it remains inconsistent in heat and flavor Owner, Manager, Wait Staff… I cannot tell you how true this statement is. I and my friends have all noticed this. I have even tried to explain it to the waiter who doesnt seem to get it. Its like there are two different cooks doing the Phad Thai and other things completely different ways. If I could figure out which the ones schedule that makes food great, I would eat there every day he/she was there cooking. Im not sure whos who back in the kitchen but one of them really doesnt get it.

I love Union Cafe. I can always rely on the staff to accomodate my needs and they are committed to a 21+ crowd. I love the music and the crowd. Great people! I come here often. I was disappointed tonight when my wallet was stolen rightbout of my purse and my ID and ss card went along with it. I hope that security footage will help me with mybreport. Union is a place for everyone, all colors, shapes/sizes, genders, and just anyone is welcome here. It is dishearenting to know that there are predators here at Union Cafe.

Weve been going to Union for 3 years. Never a reservation. Today the place was dead. No customers- we were there early and refused service. A black couple with their children had been seated with their plates and suddenly the mgr ask them to leave. They thought it was because they were black until they heard we had the same problem. Apparently the management gets to pick and choose who eats there and being straight knocks you out of the running.
