We live in German Village and this place was a regular spot. Weve recommended a lot of people to it at work (NCH) or visitors from out of town. However recently we noticed the quality has gone down yet the prices have gone up. I was overlooking the decrease in quality yet increase in prices because it is in our neighborhood. However, this morning my family and I were walking around the neighborhood and I felt like I needed some sugar/carbs. It was around Schiller Park so we stopped by Brown Bag just to see if we could buy a cookie. I waited with the kids and my wife looked on the windows and door and didnt see any times listed or a closed/open sign. I knew we were a little early for opening, it was around 10:30am. There were a few people inside though so she tried the door and it was open. I thought oh great, maybe they just opened. But immediately upon opening this women very rudely said "Im sorry were closed." from behind the counter. My wife asked if we could just by a cookie and she cut her off and repeated "Im sorry, were closed." It felt so rude and we felt so slighted. Especially as a favorite neighborhood spot. I dont know if this woman just works there or if she is the owner, but regardless taking the rudeness, drop in quality, and price increase into account, we wont be going to Brown Bag anymore. Honestly, with the rudeness alone we wont be going there anymore. We walked away thinking that there were so many different ways she could have handled that. "Im sorry we left the door open, we actually arent open yet, but sure you can buy a cookie." or "Oh Im sorry we arent open yet and we cant sell you a cookie because its illegal when were not open" (I dont know if thats true but whatever) or "here is a cookie on the house" and then lock the door so that now one else goes in thinking the place is open. I have to say, if you are in the Village go to Pistacio Vera, Lindys, or Staufs instead. The people who work there are amazingly nice and there is more than one occasion were they went out of their way to make our familys time at their place enjoyable. If youre up for a little more of a walk try Kolache Republic. The owners are so nice and the food is great.

The Brown Bag Delicatessen offers good, wholesome food, at very sensible prices. Ive only gone a few times, but I have yet to be disappointed. It has quite a relaxing vibe as the grill and pleasing tunes lightly fill the room with flavorful aromas and tranquillity. Theres not typically much of a wait, and the food comes out fast and hot. The staff is always cheery and exceptionally polite, often going above and beyond. Although the food is nothing extraordinary, its certainly very far from the worst. My only dislike is the seeming lack of upkeep, and the limited amount of seating. The bathroom is usually a little on the gross side, with other minor things like dust build-up, but its still absolutely worth a visit! I highly recommend you check it out!

we got a turkey ruben (the 1 in 10 I think its called ) and I almost broke a tooth on a 3 separate hard ribs of cabbage in the cole slaw. The turkey was a round congealed puck of meat that seemed to be portioned out earlier in the week, leaving an inch or more of just bread around the perimeter. For $9.50 for a sandwich alone I think you should do better than that. The pbj was sloppy but almost all peanut butter. We did have a decent cauliflower curry salad. The deviled egg was also pretty good. So many better sandwich shops in Columbus than Brown Bag though. The only real draw to this place is the Jenis scoop shop next door. We wont be hurrying back.

Highly recommended. By far one of the best stops in German Village, it reminds me a lot of Bagel Street Deli which you will know if you went to OU. Ive tried a number of the menu items but I continue to go back to the Classic Club : smoked turkey, crispy bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic-herb mayo served on toasted sour dough ... So good. I usually call ahead and get it to go, but they have a nice little sitting area inside and they are close to Schiller Park. If you save any room, there is an added plus with Jenis Ice Cream shop next door.

Great place to grab lunch or dine in for dinner. They have tables onside to eat so I love when the weather is nice, sitting outside. Absolutely amazing food! I feel Brown Bag Deli is underrated, a lot of people dont even know about this place. Their are heartier options, as well as vegetarian options to. The staff is always been so polite and helpful explaining whats on the sandwiches. Try the sides to! I usually get the Leroys smoking sandwich, tuna melt or the classic club!

A great place to visit for a bite to eat and an ice cream cone, next door. The variety of food options caters to a number of dietary preferences; sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizza. My one suggestion is for the caprese wrap. The vinaigrette is too thin and messy. It just pours everywhere. It could really use a thickener. Something like soy lecithin, corn/tapioca starch, pectin, gelatin, or even use an onion jam vinaigrette. Will visit again!

I cant say enough about the quality of delicious sandwiches, selection and service at this little local favorite. The variety of flavor combinations in their sandwich menu is matched only by their constant rotation of exciting dessert and side options. Club sandwich and a glass bottle of black cherry soda with cane sugar on a beautiful spring day = heaven.

Just tried this little German Village gem for the first time today. What a delightful surprise! Great (generous) sandwiches and awesome deviled eggs! Small and cozy, and the prices are very reasonable. Easy parking, very nice people working there. My husband and I said, "Well definitely be coming back for lunch!"

Limited vegan options. The vegan sandwich on the menu (The TLC) is a mush sandwich by the time it gets to you. A bunch of soggy veggies on bread probably isnt the best idea. Flavor was ok but nobody likes a soggy sammich. Appreciate the try but still falling short. I am told the non-vegan options are great.

Probably my favorite place to eat in German Village. Im here all the time, whether its for a sandwich or to grab a delicious side for a dinner party. They have a great drink selection, wonderful recipes and quick service. Dont be deterred by the line - it goes quick and just shows its popularity!

Quaint atmosphere and tight accommodations but it was worth rubbing shoulders with a few strangers. Had the Cuban with Kale and Chickpea salad. Cuban was alright - Ive been spoiled by my travels to Miami. The salad and trying some other unique menu items would encourage me to go back.
