Considering how often I visit Phoenix Coffee, I feel that it would be an injustice not to give a review. The shop is easily accessible, lying slightly diagonal from the intersection of Walnut and 9th street. Despite its prominent position right in the heart of downtown, my inner hipster was instantly appealed to from the moment I started becoming a patron. The interior felt rustic and earthy. Furnishing felt second-hand (in a good way) and the tiny, potted plants lining the walls made it feel homely. The most notable element that caught my attention is how friendly and personable the staff was/is, which for me goes a long way. Obviously, since I stated that I’m a regular, they and I have built a rapport over time, but they have consistently displayed an eagerness for friendly, open conversation with everyone who enters, day in and day out. Now, let’s discuss product. I’ll let it be known that I am typically a very simple man when it comes to coffee. That is to say, black: no sugar, definitely no cream. This is what I order 99.9% of the time at any coffee establishment. With that said, even I can find the drip coffee here a bit on the strong side. When I first started visiting Phoenix, it didn’t seem that strong. Either the water to coffee grounds ratio has changed, or my taste buds have. As it stands right now, the bitterness is almost overwhelming at times, and I rarely finish an entire medium-sized dose of kick-in-the-face coffee as it stands right now. If you’re a fellow “purist”, proceed with caution, as even the heartiest will be tested. It should be stated that there is also a manual pour option, but I have yet to sample it. Outside of the standard fare, there is a host of espresso, mixed espresso drinks, and tea options available. Tastes range from mocha lovers (recommend the Speedball) to the lighter side. Seasonal blends are available as well, and if you are visiting during the summer months, I highly recommend the Iced Coconut Water Latte. It is most certainly one of my favorites. A host of bottled juices and water, as well as Phoenix merchandise and take-home coffee beans are available for purchase. As is common with coffee bars, a wealth of pastries and bagels are available, and though this is not typically my area of expertise, I highly recommend the Peanut Butter and Jelly cookie. High in sugar and a guilty conscience, you’ll love every bite. I swear. Between the low cost (by comparison to competitors in the surrounding area), friendly staff, and laid-back atmosphere, this is the perfect location for a wealth of occasions. Whether it is for business, hanging out with friends, sight-seeing, or simply grabbing a hot cop of Joe, I’m sure you’ll find a new favorite at Phoenix Coffee.

We had just arrived in from an over night train and it was raining. We wanted to get something to eat and coffee while we waited for our rental car. Granted we arrived at the coffee shop about 15 early, we were 2 patrons waiting right outside the door in the rain with luggage. The 2 girls inside simply just kept talking and drinking coffee while looking right at us. We waited till a few minutes of opening time and we left. I feel that was completely rude and horrible customer service!

The guys that work here are really funny and they always make me smile in the morning. Downside is I wish they had something other than bread to snack on lots of carbs there and sweets but the coffee is amazing. They make their own almond milk which I love lots of benefits to this place and its local we have to support our local vendors.

Phoenix has great coffee & baked goods. My favs are the blueberry or currant scones and whatever daily coffee theyre brewing. I love finding alternatives to Starbucks and supporting local "mom & pop" shops and Phoenix blows Bucks outta the water! As for the staff, they are all very friendly & helpful...GOOD people!!

Love this place- the staff is friendly and expedient. The coffee is wonderful. Their teas exquisite. The bakery scrumptious. Theres also a wonderful focus on sustainability: compostable cups, discount if you bring your own. Phoenix is, and I certainly hope will continue to be a staple in Cleveland.

Good space and friendly people but I prefer Rising Star a few blocks away. I was in Cleveland for 5 days a few months ago and came here once and went to Rising Star three times, if that says anything.

Good staff, clean, tasty coffee, pretty quick service. Convenient place to meet people downtown for small meetings out of the office. Havent tried the food, but they offer some.

Do not like the coffee here. Seems like the main focus here are Lattes and similar. Not coffee or espresso. Espresso is burnt tasting.

Nice place for a coffee or tea. The Mexican coffee with chilli powder is surprisingly good, and Im not even a big fan of spicy foods

Wish the coffee quality matched the price and atmosphere. Quite good, but not as good as a luxury coffee place

Not sure why one would get coffee anywhere else given the choice. Superior to _that national chain_ by far.
