First let me say that I grew up in the Akron Ohio area so I know the New Era well. As a young man i used to visit the New Era (original building) at least once a week as the food then was great. Everyone was friendly, the old gal in the kitchen we nicknamed mama used to come out to say hello to the patrons and the food could not have been beat anywhere. Then came the new building.... Everything changed, we never saw mama after that, the servers seemed distant, and the food changed drastically for the worse. I figured it would take a while for the new routine and so we didnt return for a couple of years, yes I said years. Last evening we visited the new Era once again. It was a Saturday evening about 6PM. There was no wait we were immediately greeted and seated in a comfy booth. The wife ordered cod which was overcooked to the point that it was dry. Brother ordered a liver-wurst sandwich on un-toasted bread because he had just had a dental procedure done and his gums were tender. The sandwich was made from day-old stale bread and the liver-wurst was the end cut making it tougher than normal. I ordered the Hungarian Goulash which was overcooked to the point that the potatoes were mushy and breaking down and as a result it had the consistency of thick potato soup. I also had a piece of the cheese strudel which was divine in the past and Im sorry to say that although tasty it was dried out to the point that it should not have been served. I have seen this scenario before when a restaurant increases size and looses out in the process. Needless to say we wont be going back anytime soon, if ever.

Tried this place based upon the reviews here and the fact that its #1 on the Fox 8 Hot list for best new american. Very underwhelming. Staff mustve had an off night, the hostess had a bit of an attitude, never smiled, didnt really feel welcome. The waitress just stood there silently, didnt introduce her self or ask what drinks we wanted, we had to initiate the order, just kind of awkward. Ordered the paprikash and chose all white meat, the skin and tiny bones in it was very off putting. I also got mashed potatoes and they were instant and gross. The food comes out lightning fast (within 2 minutes!) which is great, but also shows that the food just sits around all day long, nothing is really cooked to order. With such great reviews I was very disappointed. However the strudel was good so if youre in the mood for that this is the place to go. I just wish they had more menu items that were eastern european, they need to get rid of the BLTs and cheeseburgers and go more authentic! Try Babushkas in Northfield, 1000 times better!

In laws adore this place so Ive been several times. Food: ranges from a 2 to a 4. Their famed dishes were not that impressive. PEPSI (minus). 1/2 star or so. Some of their other food is much better - simple stuff. Service: usually good to very good 3-4 and family friendly. Cleanliness - ZERO... see below. Average 2 stars. Running joke every time we went there - walk in the front door - turn right walk 10-20 feet, look down - try not to throw up. Their carpets have always been DISGUSTING. - but I will not eat here, as until ownership changes - I believe the "ignore it" attitude I saw on the carpets over years will continue somewhere - and probably somewhere you would not see it - and that is frightening. Im going to guess the "blue hair" crowd didnt notice or cant see that far... I cannot recommend this place.

My Hungarian father and I saw during our road trip that there was a restaurant that served Chicken Paprikas, we just had to eat here being Hungarian. Unfortunately this recipe was nothing like we expected when comparing it to our Hungarian version. The sauce was too watery, there was no sour cream in the recipe, the dumplings needed seasoning and were to large when comparing to a different nationality. Im not saying it was horrible, just a total difference when compared to my father and grandparents who were also in the restaurant business when they made it. On the waitress staff, they were most happy and a pleasure to see the interaction between customers. Im sure they have lots of other food that was great tasting, (listening to other patrons) ours was just not what we antisipated according our motherland.

The server was great! I hostess was jus plain rude! Very unimpressed by the hostess! The hostess sucked too.... Chix popercosh (Im sure thats not how you spell that lol) was good. be careful you dont choke on the really small bones in the chix. You can tell everything is homemade which was refreshing! Chix tenders werent your average run of the mill they were homemade and fresh. My wife said pork chops were salty but I didnt mind lol. Btw the hostess sucked and she sucked too

Had dinner there yesterday, 3-3-14. Food was fine but service was terrible. Didnt bring all our order, then had to ask for the rest.and no explaintion just set it on table, not even sorry for bringing it late Had to flag down server for refill of drinks, then after waiting ... went to register for our check on way out. If server had been busy I would have forgiven the lack of service , but that wasnt the reason. We wont be going back.

first of all the mashed potatoes are real and very good. second of all this is all home cooking that u can not find anywhere else! They have tons of awesome dinner specials and they are all awesome. they also have regular food like awesome cheeseburgers if ur not into Serbian cuisine. it is a one stop shop for any type of food with great quality. five stars!

Very good food...prices on the reasonable to moderate side Chicken Livers are to die for...so is the Chicken Paprikash. The desserts are quite tasty and fresh. Raisin bread is good too. This place is a diamond in the rough, although the area has gotten much better since they built their new, current location. Way to go! Keep it up!

The paprikash was lacking in flavor yet somehow still spicy. It consisted of some dry chicken drumsticks on a platter of paprika sauce with hardly any flavor. There were ample dumplings but since the sauce was so insubstantial in both the amount as well as flavor and quality, they were also consequently very bland

First of all the service here is crazy fast. They brought out drinks, bread, food, and dessert in almost perfect time. The food tastes like it was made by my mother and thats a good thing. Really nice place with good food, fast service, and nice staff.

Good home cooked food with generous portions. Great neighborhood, sit awhile, friendly atmosphere. I like to sit on the bar side and watch television while I eat and chat with the owners and the numerous regulars.

Decent food. The paprikash and dumplings were good, but there werent as many Eastern European offerings on the menu as I was hoping for. Great service though.
