I knew I should have left when our waitress had odd looking sores on her arms ( and as polite as she was, she just did not seem clean ). But, we were just so hungry. We had just left visiting my mother in the hospital, and wanted to try something different. I understand that this type of pizza place is suppose to be urban, however there are just way too many face and body piercings that I do not want to try to not look at while I am eating. The pizza was lacking enough sauce to tell if there was actually any on it, which did not matter, because there was not much flavor to it al all. The ground beef on the pizza had absolutly no seasoning, not even in salt was put on it when cooked, the only flavor about it was stale, as if it had been stored in the fridge for a few days. And, the crust was soggy. If you plan on ordering a pizza that is not listed and you want to put your own toppings on it, be prepared to pay a lot for it, so read the fine print. The only thing we ordered were 2 waters, a large pizza with hamburger, onion, pepperoni on half, mushrooms and extra cheese and humus (which was good) and the total was about $35 before the tip. I would never ever go here again.

Chain with ok pizzas but amazing beer selection! Props for having big selection of gluten free/vegan/allergy friendly foods but some are just really odd. I actually prefer the sandwiches here as they are unique and done very well. Love that they have tofu and tempeh and healthy tasty salads. I prefer sitting at the bar as bar staff is very helpful. This place is always so busy so table service can be slow. Try not to sit up front if its cold out as its freezing in that area. If you get on the wait list the time estimate has always been much less for us so the wait isnt bad. Theres not a lot of room to wait so we usually walk down 4th and the time goes pretty fast. The beer selection is amazing and they will let you try whats on tap. Huge selection of taps and bottles. They will always have a place in my heart as they introduced me to Wicked Weed when I first moved here. Dinner is the best time to go but also the busiest. Lunch is a strange counter service situation where you order and pay at the entrance and get your own drinks and not a server to be found. Bathrooms are interesting, especially after a few brews...

Wow, what happened? I travel for work and stopped here 7 months ago, got a great pizza and great service. Back in town with the family so we went there. After waiting 40 minutes for a table that waitress told us it was 20 minute wait, we arrive to a lovely booth with what I think was pizza grease all over the seat and dirty napkins, French fries, pizza crust and other things on the floor. We literally had to shuffle our feet into the booth so we were not stepping on all of the stuff. Enough about booth. The food on the other hand was equally depressing. Wifes pizza barely had cheese, all of our pizza crust seemed soggy and nothing like my last experience. O of course I forgot the bathroom, from what my wife tells me apparently mellow mushroom believes women do not need toilet paper or do not flush or even pee in toilets, but all over them. And of course our waitress, after tossing our pizzas to us that was it, I didnt realize soft drinks were such a precious commodity that they needed to be rationed. If there is new management in place or something, it needs to change.

Stopped by on a Sunday night after a long day of travel. I like their BBQ Chicken pizza and wanted to have some left over for breakfast in my hotel room the next morning. We also wanted some wings. But after waiting @ 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, we placed our appetizer order and salad order. Upon bringing our drinks, we were told that there were no wings due to the "time" we were now on "late night menu". We waited another 10-15 mins. before our salads were brought out. After eating them and waiting another 15-20 mins, we were told they made the WRONG pizza--a "meat eater". After we told the server this would not be acceptable she told us they were OUT of chicken!!!! She went to speak with the manager and they just happened to FIND some chicken! She told us we didnt have to pay for our meal, and boxed up the pizza to-go. This place seems to be very busy every time I pass by, so maybe we caught them on a bad night.

Pizza, good pizza is rare to find. If you are going to the Mellow Mushroom for good pizza, you may want to consider going else were. Save your money and go to Pizza Hut or one of the other chains that sells lower quality pizza. It taste like mass produced Sauce, highly processed cheese, and flavorless crust. I take pizza seriously. So seriously, about every 4-6 weeks I go through the trouble to make it from scratch at the house. Custom sauce. High quality cheeses, and a home made dough that take two days but yields a crust that can be eaten all by itself. I went to the Mellow Mushroom because I had heard people talk about it. The amount of salt is OVERWHELMING. Yes a good pie has salt but this is over the top. The price was average but the quality is well below average for a pie shop. If you are going because you want to sit downtown and take in the atmosphere, thats cool , just order a sandwich. Youve been warned.

If we were part of the college or singles crowd, we probably would have enjoyed it more. Its technically kid-friendly, as they have a menu, but the options are pretty typical (mac and cheese, bread pizza, pretzels, & meatballs). The restaurant has a good eclectic vibe & atmosphere & Im sure it would make a great date night, sans kids, venue. I had the chicken hoagie & a side salad. The sandwich was on par with Newks, though more expensive, & the salad didnt live up to my expectation as described on the menu (a $4+ bowl of iceberg lettuce). But, I give this place 4 stars because I know it would be mute enjoyable without kids, and, mainly, because the pizza my husband ordered was truly artisan, the atmosphere is great, & the beer detection is one of the best Ive found in the Winston area.

I am no stranger to this place and that is why it pains me to write this. When customers are overlooked and left to feel as though they are invisible while watching others walk through the door and get served immediately, then it is time to retrain or rehire management. As a professional reputation marketer I have noticed some glaring inconsistencies in customer service and quality the past few times I have been to this location. Someone needs to put their finger back on the pulse of customer satisfaction or this place will be defined by bad reviews. Mellow Mushroom is on a slippery slope.
