I wouldve rather eaten actual Tartan fabric than the lunch special I was served. Upon finishing my meal I immediately realized I had contracted AIDS, my family left me, my 3 friends beat and left me on a mountain and I cried. It also took 15 minutes to get a water and I had better food served from my elementary school cafeteria. The lunch special was Salisbury steak, cole slaw, pinto beans, cornbread, mashed taters with gravy and nanner puddin. Ive never walked away from a restaurant angrier than when I ate that steak. The cole slaw is arguably worse than anything youve ever eaten. The pento beans wouldve been better straight out of a can from any gas station in the world. Mashed potatoes were pretty decent...but that damn steak ruined every friendship Ive ever had, destroyed my future and tasted like a foot. Stay away from the Salisbury steak! Stay away! Aaahhhhhhghhhh!!!! My friends said the angus burger was good.

Lousy low quality food. I opted for the "fruit" side item with my breakfast this past Saturday 9/14/13 thinking it was a small serving of seasonal fruit seeing as how the restaurant has a small bar with fresh fruit. Wrong -- it was tinny, syrupy, canned Del Monte fruit cocktail. I indicated to the waitress that I honestly didnt realize that "fruit" meant fruit cocktail and asked if I could purchase a small plate of fresh fruit. She indicated that it would be $5.95 to make a trip to the fruit bar which was nearly as much as my meal. Serving canned fruit cocktail should tell you everything you need to know about how much pride the owner takes in the food that is served.

Absolutely unimpressive. However its the first and only option when coming down off Grandfather Mountain, so theyve pretty much got you. Food is mediocre. A side of "fruit" is canned, mushy and unappetizing. Eggs are rubbery, coffee bitter, the food less than fresh. Bonus, when you go to pay, they charge you a fee to use your credit card! If youre leaving the Mountain, keep driving.

On vacation and looked for a decent place to eat as usual and a local recommended this place. Never again will I go into a place without checking reviews first. I will eat a pre desert storm mre every day for a month before I will touch their food. How do you screw up a sandwich? Overly dry breads, bonless ribs out of a box and cold, terrible canned beans.

The food was good and reasonably priced, especially due to my expectations of it being overpriced. Locals were eating there. I had breakfast and the eggs had that old fashioned taste like eggs used to taste, and I loved that! The bacon serving was quite generous. The biscuits were nothing to write home about. The service was perfect. Ill eat there again.

Stopped in twice for breakfast during a recent trip to the area. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and the coffee was hot. I ordered the Western omelet with Home fries and wheat toast on both days. The omelet was perfect, the home fries were good. I would go back to this restaurant again.

We ate breakfast here two out of three mornings we stayed at the Pineola Inn--we thought it was good, the folks were friendly and the food came out quickly. Its a solid choice for breakfast, cant speak to lunch or dinner. I thought the price was reasonable for the amount of food--wed come again.

Stick to the salad bar if you are a stickler for fresh veggies and fruits. The omelettes dont look appetizing because theyre covered in greese, but still taste excellent and doesnt bother my greese-sensitive stomach. Service was wonderful!

Ordered an omelet to go with bacon and toast.. Picked up my order and when I opened my container there was no bacon and it looked like my omelet was just pulled from a deep fryer.. Enough oil and grease at the bottom to lube a steam engine

We went Wednesday morning as soon as they opened. We got a very nice waiter who was prompt and answered any of our questions. The restataurant was clean, and the food was prepared well. If I end up out this way again Id visit.

Perfect, cozy atmosphere for a tired family just off the parkway! Great food and service.... In fact we complimented the server on the amazing dish we couldnt get enough of and she brought extra for my family to enjoy.

If you are near Grandfather Mountain, stop at Tartan Restaurant. It is a great place to stop for good, fresh, quick meals that are affordable. Staff were pleasant and attentive despite the crowd.

Every time were in the area we make a stop at the Tartan Restaurant. The salad bar is ALWAYS fresh with lots of choices. Soups are great as well and very reasonably priced. Good service, too.

The atmosphere is nice, but I feel the breakfast items are somewhat overpriced. Four-fifty for a single egg, no side items? No thanks. Clean restrooms and restaurant, though.

The food is reasonable, prices are good and the service is friendly. Seems like many locals eat here. Okay place for breakfast, but there are better choices in the area.

Got the pimento cheese sandwich and a cup of chili. Filling meal and very budget-friendly. Service was excellent even though the restaurant was understaffed.

Solid choice for the family. Decent food, inexpensive, clean and not fancy. Bring cash and avoid the credit card company charge.
