I visited the new location today on Lawdale Drive. The restarurants updated decor is very nice. I dont believe the new location has been open for very long and it appears that the restaurant staff is still getting its footing and rhythm. The wait for seating was ~15 minutes (largely because the hostess was clearing tables in the absence of buss persons). Once seated, another 10 minutes passed before any server addressed my table. By this time everyone in my party had already decided what theyd like for lunch so everyone ordered. After an additional 30 minutes, our food arrived. While the food was tasty, the portions seemed tiny in comparison to the pricing. The server did not return to the table for drink refills until stopped by someone at the table. Soft drinks were served in cans. It appears that the restaurant is terribly understaffed and based upon the 10-15 people that I watched walk out of the restarurant in frustration having not been greeted by a hostess, has a very long way to go.

I booked a reservation through Open Table on Valentines Day. I got a call from the manager saying they had a technical glitch and they had to cancel my reservation. I asked if they could accommodate me at another time, perhaps in the early afternoon. They responded with we have no openings. I asked, really? what time do you open?. Reply: oh, you can come in at 3pm. Fine. I came in at 3pm. No apologies, no extra consideration for their internal issues. We arrive and order from the lunch menu. I ask about the steak and was assured the portion was generous. It was not only small, but had the sorry look of being reheated. The green beans were woody. Then my wife uses the restroom and some weirdo regular patron (man) sticks his head into the womens restroom and asks my wife to relay a message to the manager. Apparently this guy thought my wife worked there. Very creepy. Our waitress apparently knew this guy. Wow, just wow.

Southern lights is a restaurant with a comfortable, enjoyable and if I may be so bold as to say inspiring environment. This is accomplished by the paintings, small sculptures and hanging ornaments, just to name a few, from great local artist. The friendly and helpful staff are a breath of fresh air. The owner always seems to be on hand to discuss any needs the patrons may have. In considering the menu, it seems to me to be the perfect size. Its just big enough for there to be enough variety for anyones taste, yet not so big that their is a risk of some items falling to the wayside or for you to get lost in choices. With one visit you can sense that every entre, salad and sandwich has been carefully selected, mastered over time and prepared by cooks who have pride and respect for their craft and their recipients. Visit here for a romantic night out, a dinner with the family, or a crowd of loved ones and friends and you will not be disappointed.

Aug. 19, 2017...The atmosphere in itself was very attractive, but the service left a lot to be desired. We went for a small reception after a wedding. The restaurant was quiet not many people at the 2:30 hour, yet the service was extremely slow. All we ordered were a few appetizers, desserts, wine, mixed drinks, and the service was very slow. The bride was one of the first to order, yet was the last to get her drink. As the groom, this bothered me, but we remained calm amongst our family and friends. If she (the waitress) was overwhelmed, then the manager or others not busy should step up to help. It takes teamwork to be the best you can be, not individuals. The manager never can out to say welcome, hope we can make you comfortable, and thank you for choosing their restaurant. There are other restaurants better and more courteous. We will not return.

Ignore all poor reviews on this establishment. My family and I have been patrons for years at the old place, and the new. A fine place with never disappointing food or service. One of the top notch restaurants in Greensboro with consistent quality. Of course some people, who have nothing better to do than criticize, write reviews because one person thought the green beans were "woody". Dont let the so-called food snobs who venture away from chain restaurants once a year steer your perception of great food and great service, which is always what you will find here.

High quality food, with a great variety for any group. Southern Lights has salads, soups, specialty sandwiches, and lots of creative dishes and appetizers. The "make your own salad" is phenomenal, and a HUGE portion! All of the items weve ordered were delicious and large portions, so either come really hungry or plan on having leftovers! Regular specials and seasonal dishes, along with an extensive wine list. They also decorate with works by local artists! Overall, our new favorite restaurant in town!

Didnt Like This Place At All. We Started Off With One Waitress and Then In Mid Of Our Dining Experience We Got A Waiter and No One At Least Explained Why She Wouldnt Be Serving Us Anymore. But She Was Only A Foot Away With Another Table. Took Too Long Before Receiving Mine & My Fiances Food, A Box & Check... My Fiancé & I Missed Our Movie Because This Experience Was Taking Too Long!

One of the best experience Ive ever had. The waitress was very courteous and knowledgeable about the food & drinks, since my girlfriend has a gluten allergy. The food was excellent with no issue. To top off the night an anonymous person covered our bill & tip. Highly recommend this place for a nice dinner!

The new setting is lovely, with table clothes, and fine art...but when the owner/manager walks around in an undershirt, ripped cargo shorts and flip-flops while serving customers....that to me is very unprofessional!!! I like knowing the owner is on the premises but not under this casual guise.

I ordered a salad that advertised garden vegetables on top of a bed of a lettuce it was almost impossible to find any garden vegetables salad dressing was really good however. Normally when can depend on Southern Lights and it would earn five stars. This one however I will give a three

Hospitality was amazing! There was a downpour before dinner and I ran into the restaurant soaking wet. The staff got me some towels and Rocco Whalen went and got dry clothes for me. On top of the hospitality the food and drinks were delicious.

I used to love this when over near the old Hams on Madison...and this one on Lawndale is so much closer, but cant go there any more as Chef Drees served me a chicken salad sandwich that was pure gristle...and I feel really sad about this.

Great food, but poor service. Do not come here if you expect waiter to check on your table after being your food, if you dont mind asking abother waiter for water refills, or if you expect a thank-you when waiter returns your change.

Southern Lights Bistro is one of my favorite places. Great food and Ive never had a bad experience with service. This place is great for lunch and dinner. Plus I love soup and they always have a variety year round.
