The Cupcake Bar has spoiled me for traditional cake slices. The handheld delightful bites go down so easy, just like the cocktails bearing similar names. Margarita or Mojito cupcakes anyone? The cupcake menu varies daily. Full size cupcakes are available and many flavors come in a mini version size (for a mini price). Ive tried many flavors (but not all of them... yet). My favorite is a vegan dark chocolate cake with coconut buttercream (and its vegan so its good for me, right? ;). If youve been really, really good you should treat yourself to a Bourbon Pecan Pie cupcake, a brown sugar cake with bourbon pecan pie filling and cream cheese frosting. If theres such a thing as a cupcake-gasm, thats it. The shop interior is modern in appearance yett comfortable. Find a spot on a chair with a window view and watch the people walking around the Five Points area while you savor that sweet treat.

Ok i have my degree in culinary arts and i love sweets. the cake my girlfriend and i got was really dry, there selection was not good they only had about 5 cupcakes to choose from the case looked empty. the decor was lacking, it looked like they ran out of money. They said their red velvet was the best seller so i got one and it tasted like water, i understand getting a good red velvet recipe is hard to do cause it turns out really dry alot of times but this was just bad. there tables were dirty chairs needed to be replaced. the people were nice. Lastly their frosting was very basic it tasted like it was just butter and condensed milk or just butter and confectioners sugar. almost no flavor. i do not recommend this place if you have a gigis cupcake shop close to you i would try to go there instead.

The frosting is what sets this cupcakery apart. Ive honestly not had really strong feelings about the taste or texture of the cake itself, but the flavors present in the frosting are always very strong, and usually on point. This is probably why they offer frosting shots. :) They also serve up coffee type beverages. Ive had only a simple latte which was certainly fine.

I stopped by the Cupcake Bar after lunch on a weekday for 3 mini-cupcakes. They were very moist cake with rich, delicious frosting. For $1.50 a piece, these are fabulous treats. The decor was trendy with lots of natural lighting. I only wish it had better hours. A lot of people probably want cupcakes on Sundays and in the evenings after 7pm...

I just left the cupcake bar its 727 pm and they close at 9 pm they had on 3 flavors with less than two dozen . I asked for Lemon hoping they would get some from the back unfortunately they only had what was in the display cabinet . I was very surprised since they will be open for another 1 1/2 hours. I waited 7 minutes for nothing!!!

Another marvelous discovery during one of our random Durham tours. The name alone caught our attention, and the simple interior decor was inviting. The cupcakes were basically an added bonus. Great staff, inviting atmosphere, and amazing creations of love. Think that about sums it up perfectly.

Good location. Great coffee: espresso, and like drinks. However, the cupcakes werent amazing, had an interesting almost cornbread like texture, the frosting was by far the best part of the cake, held a good flavor and wasnt overwhelmingly sweet.

Its ok, decor is kind of Retro and no frills. Icing was a little hard and not one traditional choice. Ive had better cupcakes. Also had a chai latte and it was luke warm at best. Decent spot downtown.

Standard cupcake shop. A star lost because they sell a flavor of milkshake (that takes 15 minutes to make) that is full of chocolate chips that do not fit through the provided straw.

Cupcake Bar is okay. Although their cakes are tasty, I prefer Favor Desert cupcakes or Small Cakes over these. I would rank them in third place for Durham cupcakes.
