The night was a celebration for a friends birthday. He and his wife made the reservation for a party of 30 a month in advance, even spoke with an "events coordinator." When they arrived, there was nothing done for the party. We ended up shoved (literally) in a corner of the loft. When I went to ask the hostess when someone was going to come and give us plates and silverware, and clean the tables, she got major attitude and told me that it wasnt their fault. My bad, must have been our fault that the tables were never cleaned. We had to take two chairs from a table in order to make sure everyone in our party got a table, and then we got yelled at by a second nasty hostess for taking chairs for our party. Drinks took 45 minutes to get. Food came out sparatically and mostly cold. Delicious though. Wish I could say different. In the three hours I was there I got mine water glass filled only when it first arrived. And I only got a glass of water because I yelled at the waitress multiple times to please bring me a drink. We NEVER got plates or silverware and reverted to caveman style eating with our hands. When we brought this to the mangers attention, he blew us off, and said he was doing the best he could. The manager started out awesome. But I think even he realized that the servers could not handle the party and things had gotten SO bad with it that they were well past the point of redemption. Cant say that I blame him. I was so excited when I read the menu and thought about everyone I wanted to tell about the place, but never in my life have I experienced such poor service. After being in the restaurant business for ten years, I understand how hectic things can get. The worst part was no one ever apologized. No one ever tried to make it right. We were completely ignored. We will sadly not be returning to this place, and if they continue to serve large parties in this manner, they will not last long.

What a disappointment. I was really excited to try Heist after seeing their menu online, which isnt accurate at the time of this posting, as they didnt have the dish I was most excited to try. On arrival, 2 of the wait staff were waiting by the door texting on their phones, no big deal, but not what you want patrons to see when they first arrive. We were seated and ordered 2 IPAs, the White and the I2PA. Both were heavily watered down, even though the description reads a "massive" amount of hops. The pork belly corndogs were undercooked, the Chicken/Waffle/Sushi was just an odd combination of flavors that didnt work, the lobster bisque tubes were room temperature, and the torched diablos were only decent. However, the real killer for our experience were the Shrimp Stix. I can forgive a lot, except being served RAW food. I took one bite into this odd monstrosity to find the center completely raw. The second one, RAW. I alerted the waitress, who said "its supposed to be chilled". I know the difference between chilled, cooked shrimp and RAW shrimp. I found it strange that she didnt even offer to replace it, rather just saying "ill take it off for you". I wanted to like this place, I really did, but the weak beer and poorly executed food made for a really underwhelming experience. I may return if they flip their menu, but I dont foresee myself recommending Heist to anyone, especially at these prices. Go to Soul if you want good tapas and ANYWHERE else for better beer.

This is definitely a restaurant with a brewery attached, not a brewery. If youre trying to eat here on a budget... dont. Thats the best advice, I suppose. Aim away from peak hours, for better service, and I personally would not recommend the chicken and waffles, especially for the price - Im not sure how a restaurant in the south is going to mess up Fried Chicken, but they managed to make the chicken skin and breading heavy and unappetizing, and the waffle was nothing special. To make matters worse, it was served vertically, on a spike, without any clear way to approach it. Im rambling. My general view of the menu is that its focusing too much on being gourmet, and not enough on being... well, GOOD. Another reviewer got it spot-on - the menu is essentially heavy and overpriced tapas. Great and (slowly) rotating selection of Belgian and farmhouse style beers, one of the better places for the style in Charlotte if thats what youre into (which is what earns it the third star), but the establishment as a whole is far more focused on catering to a crowd thats used to the citys higher-end dining and nightlife. If youve got money to burn on food or mixed drinks, or youre just here for the beer, you could do worse than a night at Heist.

The beer was ok, along the lines you would expect from a small brewery. Now for the food. The menu has what they call "shared plates" that are about the same cost of the shared plates on the Capital Grill shared plate menu but less than half the portion. We had a party of four, orderd the tacos that came to the table with 3 how do you share 3 small tacos with 4 people? Orderd the burgers again came to the table with three for 12$ for 3 mini burgers I understand food cost but wow. We also had the wood fired strip steak for 15$ again very small portion and half of the steak was all fat and grisle that you could not cut or eat. Waiter asked how it was and we showed him and he said that "what do you expect from a ribeye steak?" My wife said that the menu said it was a New York strip and he replied with "all steaks are like that." In all we had 6 "so called shared plates" 6 drinks and bill was 180.00$ for 4 people, and left hungry. They should change the name from Heist to grand larceny brewery, because that is about what it is.

Mediocre beers, mainly not interested in returning due to lack of cleanliness. There were many flies and other bugs all inside. The wait staff did not clear the tablesss next to us for about 20min, yet it was a Monday afternoon and we were 1 of 2 tables there. Finally when a portly worker (who might have been a manager since he had a business phone hanging from his pocket) decided to clean off the table, he sprayed and wipe down a portion of tables, left cups on the table for the next guests from the previous guests who left. There were visible fingerprints on the cups he left behind. Then he brought more cups to finish placing the table and touched all the lips of the table with the entire palm of what I can only imagine dirty hands. The same dirty worker came out shortly serving food. Then went back to spray table and do a poor job of cleaning them off. After watching him we lost our appetite, closed our bill and went to another bar.

Tapas plates with full plate sized prices. My table had 5 dishes, only one of them was good- the beer cheese. The rest were either dry, bland or soggy. While the chicken waffle tacos sound delicious, what you get dry over-fried and burnt chicken on a burnt waffle bent in half. The Tofu stir fry was an odd mix of hard veggies, not cooked, in a runny tasteless sauce - who puts halved cherry tomatoes in an "Asian teriyaki" style stir fry? They do... Service was speedy and friendly. The hostess however was not. She was obviously trying to get people to leave by telling them they had a 45 min wait time (which is what she told us) but it actually took less than 5 minutes to be seated. There was literally no one waiting that I saw. She didnt greet or say goodbye, just sat there sulking.
