Unfortunately my first negative review of a triangle restaurant but I hope this helps some folks. I stopped eating at this Pei Wei a couple years ago because they were consistently late on my to-go orders. A co-worker encouraged me to try them again. I noticed new menu items and decided to start over. I ordered online at 11 and arrived a little late (my food was to be ready at 11:20 and I go there at 11:25). Besides 2 seated tables I was the only other person in the restaurant. The floors were sticky everywhere, especially in the bathroom. I noticed food crumbs on tables that were set which didnt have any customers yet (they opened at 11). Despite ordering 25 minutes ago, I waited another 10 minutes to get my order at 11:35. Not good, but maybe the food would be great? I ordered whats called "Japanese Steak and Shrimp Chili Ramen". My shrimp were breaded in a mushy batter, but even worse they were clumped together in chunks (like a clump of 3 shrimp fried together in the mushy batter). The rest of it would have been good although beware that these arent ramen noodles. They remind me of the rice noodles you find in microwavable meals, the ones that have a slight sweet and vinegary flavor. I dont like those noodles but some folks love them. When I saw ramen on the menu I assumed some aspect of the dish would at least be ramen influenced, but this is something else. They could have named this dish according to the style of noodle they chose, I dont understand why cover it up? I could have ordered something I know I like, like the Kung Pao. Between poor service, poorly prepared food, and a misleadingly named dish (not the staffs fault of course) it will be hard to convince me to try again there. Edit: Youve got to be kidding me. I posted this before trying the eggroll. Its completely lukewarm, not heat at all. Im actually worried to eat it. I guess I should mention the plus sides. The "Japanese" dish I got is really spicy as they advertise. Which is nice because a lot of places claim to have spicy food thats quite mild.

Im a huge fan of Asian cuisine, and Pei Wei is one of those places thats quick and easy, but doesnt necessarily serve awesome food. Its not bad food, but its nothing that will blow your taste buds away. I used to always get the chicken/shrimp lo mein, which is actually pretty good, but then I read the Nutritional Information and havent ordered that much since (though I really appreciate that they do put the Nutritional Information on their website, because it does help me figure out the best options). Over the past year or so, the company has been experimenting with different dishes that are only on the menu for a short amount of time, which I guess is both good and bad. Its good because I really like trying the new menu items, but its bad because if I really like the dish, I have to find something else when the dish goes off the menu. The basil chicken was definitely my favorite! My husband always gets the kung pao chicken, and requests it extra extra extra spicy. Thats one thing about the spiciness levels here - theyre not really that high, so if youre really into spicy food, you have to specifically request it. And even then youre not guaranteed to have it as spicy as you want. The best we got was when I requested it 10x as spicy, and the guy gave us a side of whatever spicy sauce they use, so that my husband could control how hot it really got, and it worked out well. But that hasnt happened since, and the spice level just isnt quite there. The good thing is that there are a lot of coupons out there. Theyve slowed down a little, but they used to have BOGO entree offers if you watched a video or two on their website, and the videos were actually pretty cool and informative and deal with how they cook and/or the ingredients they use. Lately the offers have been 20% off or something similar, and for how the meals taste, I just have a hard time bringing myself to pay for it unless its BOGO.

I unfortunately did not get to eat any food, so this review does not reflect that. I did, however have a really bad experience regardless. I ordered 4 kinds of sushi and an appetizer online about 6:45 pm for pickup at 7:30 pm. I arrived at the Pei Wei about 5 minutes late, so around 7:35. When I went to the register to get my order, the cashier told me that they are out of sushi tonight, but I could make me something different instead. So basically, they had 50 minutes to give me a quick phone call and let me know that they were out of basically everything I ordered, but instead waited until I drove all the way up there to tell me that. Just unacceptable! The manager apologized and said they were very busy, as well as offered to give me everything else on my order (one appetizer) for free so that was nice, but I chose Pei Wei for the sushi. You want to see busy? Go to chipotle any night of the week... and they move like clockwork and get it right every time. There is also no way to pay for your online order beforehand or with a gift card in case someone would like to pick it up for you so be aware. It seems I am not the only one who has had issues at this location. I guess I should have listened more closely.

The food was quite repulsive, unless of course youre used to eating mediocre meals. Sadly the crab rangoons had been neglected, served unseasoned. Both brown and white rices were starchy. The Dan-Dan noodles (a beloved homemade favorite) was a bowl of mush, even the beansprouts and cucumbers lacked crispness. I also found a long hair weaved in the colorful vegetables of my Spicy Korean dish. Having it sorted took a while, but the waiter was kindly apologetic (the only reason for two stars.) I wouldnt wish the carelessness of this establishment upon anyone. With their utter disrespect by serving insipid food they wont ever receive my business again. Ill actually take the time, cook properly and save my hard earned money.

My husband and I are frequent diners. A week or so ago, we went and realized their health rating dropped to an 87. We left, disappointed..hoping it was a mistake and would be resolved with a revisit. I went just a couple days ago, hoping theyd boosted the rating since my last visit, and to my surprise it had dropped more! Apparently they were revisited (as assumed) but instead of correcting mistakes, they did worse, scoring an 85.5! We will unfortunately not be returning without a serious overhaul, because a company that cares so little about health code and cant attempt to improve an already low score isnt one I want to frequent.

85.5 safety score seen on recent visit should tell you something. This is a score typically reserved for Mom-and-Pop dumps, but I am in no way surprised. We immediately walked out. This location has always been substandard, plates always filthy, seats/tables filthy. Food is downright awful: Had Thai wraps at Raleigh location, always light with punchy herbal and citris accents; in Cary theyre laden with oil and flavorless. Hopefully upcoming Apex location will be better than this horribly-managed Cary location. Never going back, ever.
