We visited Asheville for a week recently. It definitely is a Craft Beer and Foodie town. Unfortunately, Chiesa was not on par with most of the other restaurants we tried. First, let me say that the ambience is pretty cool. We learned that the building was formerly a grocery store and then a church before becoming a restaurant. So we hoped this would be a great dining experience. Dont get me wrong the restaurant is not terrible. But when you pay $12 per glass for wine and $29 per entree you should get a fine dining experience. The service was amateur along with the kitchen/chef. Portions were small and didnt ring of handmade fresh Italian. We did find some wonderful food nights at local restaurants like: Curate- lived up to all the hype. Plant-(vegetarian)-blown away and very surprised (5-Star) Cucina24- was really great, fresh Italian(very well run) Salsas- was by far the best bang for the buck (no ambience but really great) Little Bee Thai- Amazing Thai food- that some locals told us to try...Be warned its a hole-in-the-wall restaurant but really good food. (nice selection of local craft beers too) Maybe this was an off night for Chiesa. Well try them again in a year and see if theyve improved.

I guess we are going to be the people who contribute a 1 star "unpaid" review. We are accustomed to the north end of Boston, LI in NY, Philly, etc. After reading all of the rave reviews we decided to give it a go. Our skepticism was well founded. Asheville is home to more than a few "niche" restaurants that can only survive due to tourism. Spinach Ravioli seemed simple enough not to mess up. For $18 we received six small square 3"x3" cut lasagna noodles that over lapped each other. Between them was approximately one half teaspoon of cheese. We also ordered the meat sauce which consisted of about 1/8 of a cup of red sauce containing about a tablespoon of finely ground meat. The seasoning that topped it off would have been more at home on a lemon glazed pound cake due to the fact that was the overwhelming aftertaste. So, in summary, for $18 we received about one and a half lasagna noodles, about three leaves of spinach, two and one half teaspoons of cheese, some red sauce and a sweet lemon glaze topping. This would not even be an acceptable appetizer in a mediocre place on the north end. Now for the positive: the bread was good! Never again.

I made reservations at Chiesa cause I wanted to take a friend out for dinner for his birthday. I wanted to go somewhere he probably hadnt been before. Our reservation was for 8:30 pm. I didnt expect it to be so busy at that time of night, but upon arriving there were people standing just inside the door waiting. The food was very good. I had the spinach raviolis and my friend had the chicken Marsala. We both ended up taking leftovers home. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. The only thing that I didnt like was the lack of meat on the menu. There was one dish with chicken and one dish you could add chicken to. But nothing else with meat unless you count sausage or meat sauce. Other than that, the dinner was great. ..... My mom would like for us to have dinner here when she comes to visit me from Florida again.

It was our last night in Asheville and Chiesa was a last minute surprise. The building is so charming and different from normal restaurants. It was very warm and inviting and the staff is excellent. Our server Faith was wonderful and had a great sense of humor. She was very attentive and did a great job explaining different items as well as wine recommendations. At the end of our meal, we even got a little visit from the owner who asked how our meal was. Its little touches like that, that made this restaurant stand out on our trip. We do recommend making a reservation because it is a small space.

Our experience at Chiesa was terrific! We had seafood diavolo, lasagna and lemoncello cake and it did not disappoint!! Seafood diavolo was just right spice wise and the lasagna was perfect. Melissa, the owner, was an absolute delight and I feel as though Ive made a new friend after our visit. Steve, our waiter, was awesome as well. This will be a go to favorite for us when visiting the Asheville area in the future. Thank you so much, Melissa, for a wonderful dining experience!!

Poor service, very slow staff. We had a reservation and had to wait a few minutes to be seated. We were sitting outside, so the staff might be slower than inside. One member had to wait an extra 10 minutes for his food. Different items on menu are drastically different portion sizes. The spinach ravioli dish was only 4 raviolis. Food is good, but for price, the are better options. If youre very hungry, go somewhere else

After a long long long day of traveling, and having to move hotel rooms due to an infestation of ants, this restaurant was a lovely surprise. My family and I found it on Asheville Discovery inside and out, and decided to try it. We were amazed just by walking in the door. The people working here were unbelievably nice, and the food was absolutely wonderful! I completely recommend this place, you will love it.

Was treated to dinner @ Chiesa for my birthday. The staff & owner are 5-star friendly. And the food is 5-star delicious. The whole restaurant, patrons & staff, sang "Happy Birthday". It was great! Nothing beats a neighborhood restaurant... "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name...and theyre always glad you came...". Chiesa is that in spades!!!

I really enjoyed the food here, though it was a bit too eclectic for my taste (Im rather simple, my fault, not theirs!) The art on the walls is mesmerizing, and we just happened to eat on a day where all proceeds went to a local non-profit. It blew me away that a high-end Italian eatery would do something like that.

We loved it! We are tourists from Philadelphia and San Francisco, we lucked out when this amazing restaurant was recommended to us. We never would have found it otherwise. Our waitress Stephanie was great, the food was delicious and we couldnt be more satisfied! Definitely coming back next time we are in town

Dont be misled by the Streetview pic of the restaurant! Since the last time the Google Van came by, this former and historic church has been lovingly transformed into a beautiful and cozy neighborhood restaurant. Great food, service and atmosphere in the heart of Ashevilles historic Montford district.

Chiesa is a favorite with me and my friends. Several of us ate there on spaghetti night last week. Melt in your mouth pasta - fabulous wine - ever-changing seasonal menu. The atmosphere is so friendly and "comfortable." Staff cannot do enough for you. What can I say? Go and enjoy!

My wife and I had spent the day walking downtown Asheville and both agreed a hearty dinner of pasta was in order. Chiesa fit the bill perfectly! The owner, Robert, and his staff are extremely friendly, attentive and good conversationalists! We enjoyed our evening of pasta and wine!!

Nice little place. Friendly staff. Excellent food. We had the tuna carapaccio, the pan-seared scallops with risotto and the grilled veggies with polenta, all of which were excellent. Entrees are around $20 a piece. The wines are pretty good as well. The gavi-di-gavi was great.

Best Italian I have had in a loooong, possibly ever. Very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. The owner, Melissa, is very passionate and friendly. We loved our experience. Their Diavolo sauce is to die for and the Pesto Alfredo (upon special request) is also exquisite.
