A hip place. Thats for sure. Theres a few obvious problems. Lets start with the quality of the coffee. Having been here a few times ive given up on the drip. Outside of peak hours, the drip coffee is let to sit in the carafe for way too long. The particles settle and the oils rise to the top. During peak hours, espresso shots are sometimes pulled prior to an order and left to sit and wait for a customer to order them. If you ask for a fresh shot, you get an upcharge. I thought I had found a new employee who wasnt aware of the importance of a fresh shot, but friends have also had this experience. A good crema is important to making drinks with espresso and the crema dissipates prior to them making the drink. I do enjoy their ice coffee, but thats a hard drink to mess up. They have good roasts but yeah. I do like the idea of a quiet room where I can tuck away and read, but unfortunately the signage is inadequate and theres always a group of yapping hipster herbalists.

Coffee is okay, slightly above the quality of a Starbucks. Bottom tier among the coffee bars Ive been to in Asheville. Baked goods are pretty terrible, marginally better than what youd find at a gas station, but theyre made from mostly good ingredients so I added a star there. Muffins were undercooked and doughy, cookies oversweetened, I suppose to compensate for otherwise flour-y taste. Staff is the one saving grace, you can tell they try to put care into their work. Honestly I think theyre probably just overworked and underpaid, giving the results seen here. Ambiance is nice, pretty chill and dark, chessboard in the back room for those who like to play. All around, if you just want to grab a cuppa and chill for a bit, this spot is fine. If you are even a little snobby about your coffee or pastries, youll probably be disappointed.

This is the most overrated coffee bar Ive ever been to. The staff are always RUDE, the coffee is always bitter, theres no selection, everything in the place is dirty and old. The place is constantly swarming with pretentious hipsters. Go to Izzys, Odds café, or Old Europe instead. If you want half ass coffee/espresso made by entitled smug hipsters then this is the place for you.

I stopped on a whim passing by and I am glad I did. Cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Not too busy. Free wifi. Creative food. Panini waffles, breakfast all day, instantly served coffee. Friendly folks bring a healthy, fresh, and delicious food to a fun and welcoming establishment. By the way, spend as much as you can here. You wont regret it.

Coffee at Battlecat is really good, its a chill atmosphere for anyone comfortable being in a hipster type kind of environment with a lot of younger folks around, and the food at Tiger Bay Cafe is awesome! Ive heard people speak negatively about their experience with the staff, but everyone Ive dealt with so far has been pretty cool.

Great coffee that has become even better since they started roasting there own. Friendly baristas, CRAZY but OUTSTANDING ART much of which was created by one of the staff. Truly a neighborhood spot full of real deal people. Also, Tiger Bay, the restaurant that shares the building, is THE spot for cheap breakfast or lunch in the area.

Staff is a bit aloof, coffee is alright. My espresso was weak because it wasnt tamped. Seems to be a shop practice. Latte was pleasant, not overwhelming on the syrup. Banana bread was excellent. Uber-local vibe with smoking on the front porch and lots of seating inside. Great place to catch a few hours of work.

The coffee is not good unless you get an expensive one. The staff and owner especially are not tolerant of children. If you bring children, you will be shunned. You might be able to get away with one older child. Some of the food is okay but most of the staff is rude, especially the owner.

3 for atmosphere and marketing to the hipsters. Ethiopia on tap was very weak. My espresso had grounds in the bottom and was thin. Really wanted to like this place but the coffee needs some work. Maybe it was just an off day for them.

Love that this is a getaway free of children and full of awesome artists and an alternative vibe. Baristas are awesome and make a mean espresso. Try to Thai iced coffee, its the best frou-frou coffee drink in town.

Wow! Such great customer service. The food was excellent and there were many choices. The staffs are very friendly and the atmosphere is cute. Our food was initially delivered only partially complete.

Great atmosphere and great coffee. The chai latte is especially good. A very edgy coffee shop. The shop is an a small house that has been turned into a coffee shop. There is art for sale as well.

Coffee is great, atmosphere is wonderful and chill. Lots of seating outside and inside, ample space to study, play games, etc. (unrelated food restaurant in the back, which is also great). Hip.

Good coffee and snacks (muffins etc.) But the staff arent friendly. Ive never gotten a "welcome" or "hi, how are you?" And infrequently get a smile.
