Been passing all the signs for this upstate institution for years going back and forth to visit my daughter at SUNY Binghamton. Recently on my way back from a trade show in Syracuse I decided to pull off of RT17 and give it a try. It was late in the evening and I was starved for some nice comfort food to carry me the next two hours to get home. Big Mistake! Ordered a "Hot Opened" Roast Beef Sandwich. What could be simpler? Sliced beef on top of a few slices of bread covered with hot gravey. Apparently the word "Hot" was a difficult culinary concept for the kitchen to comprehend. After sending the room temperature dish back twice ( I suggested she tell the cook to turn the flame up high on the gravy, have it come to a boil, drop the roast beef into it to heat it and then serve) the waitress assured me it was now "Hot". It was barely warm, this after three trys!!! The side dish of mixed vegetables was obviously microwaved as it was hot on the top and cold on the bottom. The waitress was apologetic, offered a dessert as a gesture, I figured the one thing you can always count on is a diner haveing good rice pudding. Wrong! Dry and clumpy, the highlight was the whipped cream. Dont waste the gas it takes to pull off the highway to try this place. They serve food fit for a King....Here King, Here King. On second thought King derserves better.

Very disappointing experience last evening. Staff were pretty rude with the exception of the young man who took my order and served me. I was met by a very rude young woman who walked to a table, dropped the menu on it and kept walking without ever turning around to say one word to me. Unbelievable! When I went to the register to pay, the woman there was engrossed with someone in a personal conversation about someone who was visiting. She refused to stop talking to even acknowledge me. She waited on a waitress who was apparently buying dinner while I continued to stand there. I finally shoved my receipt and money at her all while she continued talking to the other person. She struggled to count out the change she owed me, since she couldnt talk and do math at the same time. I finally got my change, but not once did she speak to me. I walked away while she continued talking to the other person. On top of this, the food wasnt even that good. It was very dry with overcooked chicken. Very different from years past when my family used to stop there while traveling.

The Roscoe Diner is an institution. Like an oasis in the desert, it is the best diner for hours along Rte 17 in NY. We love the Roscoe Diner because it is exactly the half-way mark during our trip from Fairfield County, Conn to Syracuse NY. After leaving Syracuse following an Orange basketball victory over Notre Dame we had a two hour drive to Roscoe. The Diner was not particularly crowded, which is surprising for 8:30 on a Sunday Morning. Service was prompt and courteous. My omelet and bacon was fine although they messed up the simple request that my toast come dry - no butter. The toast came buttered, but I was too tired to send it back. For you coffee drinkers my wife said the coffee was AWFUL. It tasted burned, which is hard to believe considering the high frequency of coffee making on such a busy morning. Id go back, like I said its a welcome pit stop during an intolerable stretch of road. Good thing I dont drink coffee!

We came here around 9 at night while traveling to NYC. Our server was a very grumpy man. He seemed quite crossed every time we saw him. He even gave my dad attitude when he asked him to repeat the soups. I ordered a chocolate chip pancake with a few sausage links, being that they served breakfast all day. Best pancake i have had in a while. Sausage links werent bought from Sysco. These were literally pig intestines that were just sent from the farm, tied up, and cooked on the burner with a few seasonings. Honestly have to say that those were the best sausage links I have ever had in my life. If you arent a breakfast person, you still have to try these. Also free wifi, and the college/university flags on the wall kept us entertained.

Since arriving at our reunion, which we hold on a yearly basis, we heard alot about this place. After staying a less than comfortable night in Roscoe I wasnt expecting much from their restaurant. We heard that this place was well known among New Yorkers and this was the place to go for a good breakfast. The Restaurant was packed when we arrived, which was a good sign. The inside was clean and bustling with waitresses getting peoples orders. Their menu was well organized and their waitresses friendly. I ordered two eggs up with sausage and a side order of pancakes. Other than my eggs being overcooked the meal was fine. Overall I came away having a good meal and corroborate what others have said about this place.

Walking into Roscoe Diner, you get the feeling of being trapped in an 80s pastel nightmare. Right off Route 17, its the quick-on, quick-off place you go to take a break from your road trip to Binghamton, Ithaca or wherever else in upstate New York you might be going. Despite its Pepto-pink nightmare decor, Roscoe Diner has efficient service with the traditional staple of diner menu grub (wraps, burgers, rubens, salads, breakfast food). The food is completely adequate. Its nothing less and certainly doesnt pretend to be anything more. And thats what I like about this place. The folks are friendly too and my lunch was barely $12. Not bad.

Disappointing, to say the least. Horrible waitress. Food was OK once they brought what was listed on the menu as being included (had to ask for it). At the end got a slice of pie to go, brought in a container tipped over with most of the crumb topping knocked off. Once we tried it we knew it was a frozen pie and not homemade (coconut cream). We went to Liberty Diner on the way to NYC and that was FABULOUS!!! Wish we hadnt decided to try another diner on the way back. Go to Liberty Diner, just a few exits closer to NYC (Exit 100).

We were driving between NYC and Binghamton, NY. Needed a break and some in our group of 6 needed coffee. So my Uncle Bob suggested the (World Famous) Roscoe Diner. We stopped and had a bite. Great, friendly service. Very accomodating. Good food. We had a mix of salads, wraps, and sandwiches. All very good. On our return trip, we stopped there for lunch. Again, great service, more good food. The fried clam strips were HUGE, and very tasty. Fish & Chips were good. I would definitely return there if in the area!

Adequate. Thats how I would describe the Roscoe Diner. Its diner food, so dont expect a fabulous meal and youll be happy. They have a nice selection of local beers. Super convenient location. At a recent breakfast I ordered an omelette and a side of sausage. The omelette was very tasty, the homefries were meh, the toast came without jam (with nary a server to be found to ask for some), and the sausage was forgotten. Not sure if theres a better place for breakfast in town, but if there is, Id go there instead.
