Im surprised that this cafe is rated so well. We stayed in the financial district for a week and had our last breakfast at the nearby Cafe Gourmand. What a disappointment. Since when is microwaved eggs served in a styrofoam takeout container indicative of french cuisine? The quiche was also poor in quality and taste, the crust was hard and not flaky as one would expect from basic french pastries. My partner had the coffee which he described as tasteless and was served in a styrofoam cup! My advice to Cafe Gourmand: try harder. Im quite easy going but I did not go to a restaurant to be served microwaved eggs. Also when customers decide to stay, use real plates.

I happend to see the owner (Im assuming?) put out a corner sign on Maiden Lane and Broadway advertising French Cafe Gourmand one morning and decided to go investigate. Its always nice to find an independent little nook in an area that is overrun by cold office buildings and ubiquitous chain cafes (not complaining, these places are reliable and convenient). But this place feels more intimate, not just because of the cozy space, but because of the pleasant service. The coffee was great and the almond croissant was AMAZING. This will be a regular stop on my way to work in the mornings.

Love this spot. Authentic french gem in Wall Street waste land and my go to lunch spot. Owned and operated by a French couple, reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall deli in a small french town. Croissants are solid, rather than "citys best" - all other desserts are great, I prefer their madeleines over nearby Financier Patisserie. Their soups are fresh and delicious and lunch specials are inexpensive and have good variety. I come here to relax a little, listen to french pop music, and have soup & sandwich.

The place is really nice. Just a few tips: you can tell espresso beverages are made by untrained people, the technique is outdated and the coffee beans taste a bit burnt to me. Surprisingly there is no line in this place in the morning for coffee… The prices are reasonable for this location. I am sure some improvement can be done to flourish! Good luck and thank you!

Whenever Im in the neighborhood, this has become a favorite spot for me. Great coffee, sandwiches and afternoon snacks. Everythings fresh and delicious. Small shop where they treat you right, give you good value and use fresh ingredients - a rare find in financial district and Two thumbs up!

Tan lindo como pequeño, buenos precios y comida de calidad. Lindo para zafar el momento y escapar de las inclemencias.

while the presentation of the to-stay option was lacking, the food was pretty good. I had the broccolli and cheddar soup with a salmon quiche. Nothing spectacular, but a nice cozy spot to get a mug of coffee and some lunch or breakfast.

The only thing that is French about this cafe is its service - terrible and arrogant. The food looks like its prepared by a rushed teenager. The croissants are stale and chewy, the sandwiches are bland, and prices are too high.

5 stars for the café and the price/location; but 3 for the announced "best croissant in NY". I dont understand how come their croissant won a prize... At least mine, was chewing gum.

The quiche was insanely greasy and employees were eating in the kitchen. Not a nice place at all.
