Iris cafe is an excellent cafe (more on the 2 stars later). The food and coffee is excellent. The atmosphere is probably my favorite in Brooklyn, and the people who work there are always friendly. In fact, their sandwiches are so good, I cant really put it into words. Lets just say theyre so good, once you start eating one, the $9 price tag is seems completely reasonable. What is unreasonable, however, is their no computer policy. Before I get into complaining outright, I need to put in a little disclaimer. At 9AM or at noon, when the place is busy, I too find it unreasonable when somebody hogs a table for two hours while sipping on his single cup of coffee. In fact, I find it annoying any time somebody essentially buys a $2 cup of coffee with the purpose of renting himself an office space for a few hours. That being said, when there are empty tables in the cafe at 11 AM, and I plan on only staying for the time it takes me to drink my coffee (maybe 1/2 hour at most), I should be able to take my computer out and do a little work. When I found out about this policy, I had only been in the cafe for about 4 minutes. I put my computer away when asked, and sat there and enjoyed my coffee. Meanwhile, at the table next to me, four housewives cackled away for the entire 1/2 hour I sat there. It was clear they had finished their coffee long before I arrived. In other words, I was told to pack up and leave, while these women women acted obnoxiously without even buying anything. This policy is pretentious and illogical! What next, a no reading policy? Perhaps a "no meaningful conversations" policy may be in order. God knows I cant stand it when a cafe is full of people who are enjoying themselves. Come on Iris Cafe. Heres a suggestion. How about instead arbitrarily banning things, why dont you place some trust in your customers. Seriously, whats wrong with simply asking people not to loiter around for hours without buying anything. How about a policy of, "be courteous of others."

Food was AMAZING. Im a brunch/breakfast snob and I loved this place. My only caveat is the service. Typical quite good. There was a mishap with our order. Understandable, things happen. But everyone around us who came in well after us got their meals (some which were exactly like ours). It seems as though our order was put at the bottom of the list after the mishap rather than being cooked again immediately. No one offered us a refill on our coffee or some scones to tie us over. In my opinion, worst call they could have made. We had to ask for a scones and that came like after we got our food. Our table had: Ricotta Avocado toast French toast Chilli something lol Food was awesome ! overall: Food- 5/5 Service- 3/5

Great date place! Chill vibe and beautiful decor and jazz sound track. Wanted to grab a late night bite to eat before a 2 hr trip south. Had the butternut squash soup for for dinner, and heaping mounds of homemade ricotta cheese with honey and mint as a dessert w a tasty cup of a locally roasted coffee. It hit the spot dead center. And saved me from a midnight stop at the Molly Pitcher rest stop. Rodi, the owner, is very welcoming and a gracious host. Thanks Iris Cafe for a great night cap. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

This spot is a hidden gem.. You kinda need a bike to get here unless you live nearby.. Kinda off the beaten path but totally worth it. Nothing else around it to really compete.. +Avocado toast & soft eggs combo are on some reinventing the wheel status. Delicious. +Sticky buns are drug-like, coffees good & stumptown-y, tho id caution espresso drinkers on the weekends. Crazy long wait times.. Its a family spot, a mom & kid spot so if random piercing shrieks across the dining room frighten you, Id say stay away...... ;)

I started my day off here coming from Jersey. Its expensive and you will leave hungry. I dropped $21 for the smoked salmon plate and a cup of coffee (tax and tip included). I was the first customer of the day and waited 15-20 minutes before my food came out. I cant blame them for such average food but I took stars away because of the price ($3 for a cup of coffee), small portion, and they did away with soft boiled eggs. I paid in cash but would flipped out if this place was cash-only.

Iris Cafe is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I live close by and am a frequent visitor. The staff is really friendly, and the lattes are good. They always have fresh baked goods every morning and the sandwiches are delicious. The atmosphere is warm and typical brooklyn heights: brick walls, tin ceilings, and hardwood floors. I would highly recomend this place. They also sell farm fresh eggs & milk.

Ein sehr schöner, kleiner Laden mit toller Atmosphäre und netter Bedienung. Das Essen, in diesem Fall "Shakshuka" war superlecker. Weckt Erinnerungen an Tunesien. :) Ein sehr empfehlenswerter Laden.

Fantastic neighborhood cafe with fresh wholesome ingredients and a friendly staff. Get the large coffee, it comes in a mug the size of your soup bowl and its full of stumptown goodness. The Iris to go store next to the cafe is expensive but the cafe somehow isnt. The menu changes to the season but their biscuits, eggs, kale, dinosaur squash - all clean and good food.

My absolute favorite Brooklyn Heights spot. Great, simple food. I have been dozens of times and have never been disappointed. I recommend the Caesar salad breakfast with eggs and whitefish salad and the Huevos Rancheros. So good. It can be quite busy, especially on the weekends, but hopefully the new-ish table service policy can keep people moving through at a good rate.

Waited 45 minutes for a table for 2 then left for another spot down the street after being told 15 minute wait. Parties larger than 3 were almost immediately seated as 3 or 4 parties of 2 and 3 waited outside. Any party larger than yours will be sat first if the larger table is available. Not going back. Terrible experience for people who live local.

The food is good, but be prepared to overpay and leave hungry. The fruit side is 5 bucks and you literally get 3 strawberries (cut up into small pieces so it looks like more), a few slices of pear, a few pieces of melon. The coffee doesnt get refilled. You should go here if you arent hungry and have plenty of money. Otherwise look elsewhere.

We had a wonderful experience here. Great food and lovely ambiance, but what made it so special was that the owner was there, chatted with us about the history of the restaurant, his upbringing in the neighborhood, and his family. He bought our round of drinks as we headed out. What a lovely experience at a beautiful local place.

Not what I was looking for, Hoping for a filler meal but paid too much for too little. $14 for French toast and $6 for a side of bacon and $4 dollars for a coke but what do I know I am just from Chicago that might be normal in this area. Looks like they make one hell of a cup of coffee though.
