Appearance: Warm colors, and pictures line the wall. Heavy carpet. Its is a little dingy. The decor could use a fix. However, you see the efforts that they are trying with nice soap and lotion in the bathroom. It looks like some ones indian living room that turned into a eatery. Food: The plating of the food was quite nice. I went here for restaruant week. Everything was clean, and tasty. Nothing too spicy or gooey. I wish they had more to choose from on the menu. A few items on their restaurant week menu wasnt there. Customer Service: After I visited restaurant week. I dont know how but they got my e-mail address. They sent me a $20.00 credit/ certificate to come back. Thats lovely! The customer service was great the restaurant manager came around to check-in as did the waiters. However, I would recommend you say excuse me to your customers who are in the middle of a conversation to interrupt. Conclusion: It good place to grab lunch with friend. Its quite, and clean. Good place to dine for lunch with friends or family from out of town. I say this because there is no distractions like loud music, or blinding lighting. The perfect atmosphere for catching up. Its a place for medium customer service expectations with delightful clean food.

On Thursday night Laura and I went for an early dinner. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris, which was perfectly chilled, and affably poured by our host. For appetizers we ordered the Cochin crab cakes (flaky outside, moist inside) and idli upma, steamed rice flour cakes made with urad dhal and sprinkled with toasted mustard seeds. As main courses we ordered Chicken Xacuti served in a roasted coconut sauce, and Bagharey Baingan (stuffed eggplant served in a luscious peanut sauce). And we let our waiter talk us into ordering a half serving of a delicious cauliflower dish that reminded me, of all things, of a great general Tso chicken. For dessert we ordered a delicious kheer. Service was attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere, subdued lighting, reasonable noise level. Not a bargain, but a good value for fine dining. Highly recommended.

Great restaurant. Where gourmet meets Indian cuisine. The service was excellent . Ricky our head server was wonderful. Dont order, let Ricky do it for you.. He asked what we liked and thoughtfully described his suggestions. We went with all he suggested and we were more than pleased. The lamb dish melted in our mouths, the chicken was beautifully marinated and seasoned , the cauliflower was Amazing as were the other vegetables. The sommelier was very knowledgeable, (he knows wines) present, attentive and had an uncanny ability to be there at the perfect moment. The rest of the staff worked as a team and thoughtfully made sure our water glasses were filled, as well as unobtrusively checking in to ask is we needed anything. If you want great food, thoughtful and attentive service dont miss this place. Exceptional!

I love food and recently was introduced to indian cuisine, this has opened a whole new area of possiblities to try new things. As an amateur about indian food I can confidently say I enjoyed it a lot, but please keep in mind my limited exposure to this cuisine. It is the service in this restaurant that has me speechless and I not a stranger to good service. Presence of a wine sommelier which one does not even find in some of the better restaurants. I let the sommelier choose my wine and suggested he pick out what he thinks best for us rookies. Being a tuesday it was not crazy and the place is small and tight. The sommelier ended up taking care of me the entire evening and it was a wonderful experiece.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at this restaurant. i visited for the first time during restaurant week with a friend and we were both in agreement that the food was fabulous. The service was outstanding and the staff was very attentive to the customers as they arrived. the menu was so diverse which made choosing your meal difficult. I had the salmon coin and lamb appetizers but for the main course i chose the mango tandoori chicken with the mango cheese cake for dessert. This was some of the best indian food i have had and the starting salad i could not get enough of. However, the food portions were very small for someone with a good appetite but i will definitely return to amma in the future.

The service is absolutely very slow. Because of the restaurant week, they had only price fix luncheon (1 soup + 1 appetizer + 1 main course + 1 dessert) for $25!!! Menu items are not of very wide range, so not sure why it takes so much time to prepare. The quantities are also not that much considering they charge more than double compared to other indian restaurants. The name of the restaurant sounds like south indian, but there is no south indian variety which was served for lunch. This has been a complete disappointment for trying out new indian restaurant in this area.

Worst restaurant - Dont think any Indian at least should go in this restaurant. It is a Nepali restaurant with no idea about what food Indians eat. Paid USD 29 for a fixed menu - gave me a very tiny bowl of ice cold cold cucumber soup, opted for tandoori vegetables - got uncooked vegetables with no taste (1 mushroom, 1 broccoli, 1 onion, 1 cheese), taste less yellow lentils and tomato catch dipped Manchurian. Where in India anybody eats this kind of food. you have to pay for onion, pickle, green chilies and you will get salt and pepper only if you insist.

Not bad. Be aware they tried to cheat me. When i looked to the check I discovered they added 18% service and also they wrote heart beside the tip.! Its written in the menu they will add 15% gratuity if they are more than 5 on the table while we were only me and my wife!! However, the food was good. I ordered for the following: samosa vegetable: 4/5 plain bryani rice 3.5/5 butter chicken 3.5/5 Lamp rogan 4/5 Garlic nan 4/5 Service 4/5 Because Im middle eastern and I know the indian restaurants very well I gave them 3/5.

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :) Food: Excellent! I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala. Drinks: Great! Space: This is a very romantic modern mixed with some traditional Indian elements in a very intimate setting. This dining area has nice mood lighting along its wall molding creating the ideal place is great for date nights or get-togethers. Scene: Date night. Romantic. Upscale. Service: The staff is very professional, courteous and provides elegant service.

Pros: The food was very flavourful. The service was extremely good and the staff took good care of us. Cons: This place is the smallest I have been to, in New York city, and was extremely cramped. There was hardly any space between us and the people dining in the next table - we could hear their conversation. Also, while leaving, I had to get out of the restaurant to wear my coat, as there was no place to stand inside. The food was very good, but it came in very small portion sizes, and was pricey.

Summary: Very good food, not too noisy, small. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked and topped with a very nice pear chutney. A side dish with three kind of rice was a revelation, especially the mint rice. A tiny potato cutlet appetizer was a flavorful way to start the meal. My knock on Amma is that they dont really have a decent place to wait while they are getting a table ready. You just stand by the coat rack dodging the very active servers.
