I will preface this review by saying we have eaten here before about 4 years ago and had a good enough experience to try it again. Well, I guess 4 years can change a lot! What was great: The people who greeted us answered all of our questions politely about their food and preparation as our son has a severe peanut allergy. Thats all that was great. What was horrible: Service was terrible. The young girl was very polite but did not have a clue. When we walked in we noticed a board with the "specials" so we asked about them. The waitress looked absolutely puzzled and responded in her very heavy Polish or Russian accent "There are no specials". We returned her puzzled look and told her that when we walked in we saw a "specials" board and that she should check with the kitchen. Well after 10 minutes she came back and told us the specials. STRIKE ONE. We then proceeded to order drinks which took an awful long time as did the appetizers and the dinner. When we got the appetizers I ordered another drink (Angry Orchard Crisp Apple which was awesome). Dinner came and went and no drink until we were ready to leave to which I told here that we were actually finished with our dinner and I wasnt about to drink or pay for it. STRIKE TWO We have to back up a bit for the last strike which was a curve ball: During dinner my son got a queasy look on his face and said "Um, dad, look at this." I looked in the corner of where he was sitting and saw what ultimately made him loose his and our appetite which was a HUGE spiders web and a giant dead moth caught in it. I would post the picture but this review site wont let me it seems. Well, we called the manager and I said "Look in the corner and tell me what you see?" to which she very casually replied "Oh a spider web". "and a giant dead moth!" I finished for her. Now any person dropping over $125 in a touristy joint would not expect the question "Well, I guess I should comp your sons meal?" What one would expect is something along the line of "Oh my god, Im terribly sorry. Ill clean that out right away." and at the very lease take 50% off the total. Nothing of the sort from her. She could have cared less because its not the repeat business that keeps that business running. Its the unsuspecting tourists, most of which will never visit there again. That manager should be extremely ashamed of herself for the way she handled that. The food was mediocre at best this time and the service was below standard. Mark our (and the other reviewers) warnings and spend your money on one of the better resturants in town. We saw quite a few and wished we did. That aside our trip was awesome. Para Sailing, Zip Lining, Horseback riding, Dinner Cruise on the Lake....

My wife and I stopped in Lake George for a couple of nights (Fri/Sat) without any advance planning. First night we googled restaurants and ended up at the Barnsider. Like everything in Lake George this time of year it was crowded. We waited for a table for a little while - but parties of 2 are easy. As we waited I watched the staff scramble to get setups for the various family groups that were also waiting. After a fairly short wait (Ive waited much longer for a table at my local IHOP) we were shown to a table on the porch.. There was a singer/musician entertaining which added a nice touch. The food was good - I had 1/2 rack baby back, my wife a rib sampler. Im not a judge on BBQ pit-masters, so I cant get specific, but we enjoyed our meal. My wife has a sensitive stomach, so it also passed the second test, it didnt upset her system. Weve eaten in really fine restaurants in New Orleans and Los Angeles and that hasnt always been the case. The service was also very good. I had trouble spotting our waitress when I wanted a second beer, but when I asked one of the others passing by, one of the hostesses showed up immediately to make sure of what brand I wanted and got it to me. My one criticism is that I couldnt find an obvious tip jar by the musician on the porch. He added to our enjoyment of the meal and I wanted to show our appreciation. This was our first trip to Lake George, so when we come back well want to explore other restaurants, but well definitely be back to Barnsider too. For a good, enjoyable, hassle-free meal on a busy night at Lake George you cant do better.

I liked the atmosphere, but the management doesnt have a clue. Our server had tables in our section, upstairs and outside. She visited our table only 4 times and that included the check. It took about 20 minutes to pay after we had finished eating and I had to flag down people to get refills. The worst part was that I willingly paid the $2 to upgrade the ribs that came with my meal from St Louis Style to Baby Back. Ya, never got them but they were happy to charge me for it. They do have some delicious sweet potato fries that the serve with a rasberry jam, but other than that, I honestly felt like I could make anything on their menu at home - and do a better job. Yes, their ribs were cooked slightly better than average, but they werrent trying to win a contest based on meat, they wanted you to like their sauce. Their Baby Backs are good but their St Louis style arent even edible. Dont even bother getting the chicken, it honestly tasted like they boiled it and just put BBQ sauce on it. I dont expect out of up state NY when it comes to BBQ and I didnt mind the woefully inadequate parking nor that I had to drudge through their gravel lot to get to/from the place, but the service was below average and Ive had much better BBQ at national chain joints. I hate to say it, but Chillis has better BBQ than this place, and I dont care for Chillis BBQ much. This place might be worth it if the service was better, but its really not. I was in Lake George vacationing for a week and this earns the crown of worst service anywhere.

We stopped in for lunch after shopping and min-golf. Mini-golf attendants across the street recommended the place, and had actually had takeout from Barnsider for lunch that very day. We were in a hurry, were a party of 10, and had 6 kids (every waitresses nightmare). BUT, the service was amazing - she understood we were in a hurry, took drink and food orders all at once, put in the food order and brought drinks after she had the order in, apologized for taking a little while longer on the drinks but explained why, and the food came out fast, hot and delicious - pulled pork was very good. Burgers were nice - not the best, but they were ample and topped nicely with fresh veggies and other toppings - mushroom swiss burger was really good. We even found a gluten free grilled chicken, mashed and broccoli dinner for my neice. The waitress checked on us often, brought us extra napkins, refilled drinks, and even brought some BBQ sauce for dipping our fries. She also brought the check without being asked since she knew we were in a hurry. We sat out on the back deck - but there was ample room in the air conditioned dining room if we had wanted to. Both dining areas looked nice and where we sat was quite comfortable under a shaded canopy. Others might have had bad service with certain waitresses, but that can happen anyplace - especially in tourist towns where help can be seasonal. I for one highly recommend Barnsider for the Food, Atmosphere, Service and Prices which were very reasonable.
