Mahogany Grill ... more like Mahogany Microwave... The interior of the restaurant was dark and dirty. Upon getting seated, we were welcomed by a wave of fruit flies. We ordered drinks, after waiting a while, in a mostly empty floor on a Wednesday night. The drinks (marga-jito and French 75) were very weak, watery on top and a bowl of sugar at the bottom. This crossed bar off the list, as we also noticed the bartender was unable to measure or mix and was spilling half the beer before arriving to other tables. This explained the sticky floor (reminiscent of a college dorm room). The salads arrived and they were drenched in salad dressing. We sent back the salad, and we were then provided with a new salad, dressing on the side as no additional cost (attaining the one star awarded). The salads however, were in no way fresh from the canned peppers and onions to the pre-chopped and bagged romaine. For a 12 dollar salad this was not satisfying. The bread was brought shortly after our salads. Normally, I dont mention the bread, however this bread had a knife sticking out of the side. Why?...Safety?... This knife was too heavy to cut this particular bread and swashed it completely. The bread was good despite the honey gathering at the bottom, for a unbalanced sweetness perhaps? For a grill, one would assume that the burgers or Grilled items would be premiere items on the menu. When the burgers (black bean burger for the vegetarian and blackened mahi mahi) arrived, we could tell they had been done quickly and that the service was slow due to distinct smell of heating lamps. The mahi was cooked well maybe slightly over done but not much of a complaint there about the meat. The issue was in the blackened part. This fish was coated in a brown (not black with no grill lines) greasy salt cake. This layer was so salty I had to scrap it of to save my tongue from drying out with a lack of water refills. The black bean burger had the same brown layer of animal fat and salt. For a vegetarian, this is cross contamination and can be attributed directly to lack of cleanliness of the hot plat used to cook. This crossed grill from the name. The buns were greasy, soggy and flat from the weight of the burgers. The fries were cornstarch battered and greasy, none or very little potato was found. They seemed to be twice fried in a week old deep fat frier. Overall, this was not a bar or a grill with slow service and enough fat and salt to insure a bloated stomach and cardiac arrest.

My husband and I were passing through Ithaca on our way up to cayuga lake for a week long vacation with the my family and we decided to stop for a nicer dinner instead of stopping at some awful fast food restaurant. We initially thought that we would stop at Ithaca Ale House since it got good reviews and we were looking for casual fare; however, when we got to Aurora St., which appeared to be the main restaurant area, the Ale House was packed and Mahogany Grill was directly across the street and less occupied so we opted to go there instead for the sake of time. We were greeted quickly and efficiently at the hostess station and were directed to a table outside per our request. Water was already at the table and our server was quick to get our drink order and give us some time to look over the menu. We were impressed to see a pork belly appetizer offered since we dont really see it on many menus since leaving Chicago, we decided that wed have to come back when were looking to do a longer dinner so that we could try it. We just decided to order entrees this time and my husband ordered the mahogany burger and I got the mediterranean salad with grilled chicken. Our food came out in a timely manner and both my husband and I were impressed with our offerings. The feta on my salad tasted incredibly fresh, almost homemade, and my husbands burger was cooked to a perfect medium. You can really tell when a restaurant uses quality ingredients and Mahogany Grill did not disappoint. We will definitely be back should we make our way back to Ithaca.

We visited Mahogany Grill with a group of 8 and a few conditions that other restaurants in this section of Ithaca couldnt meet. Namely, a place that seat our group comfortably, didnt have too much seafood on the menu, and had some gluten-free options. Mahogany met all those so we decided to give it a try. Up until then, I had only come in here to sit at the bar and have a beer. First, Im happy to report that the service was quite nice and up to the professional standard I expect at this price point. Our server happily dealt with our table and was just as good with a semi-grumpy teenager as she was with the older adults. Thats a great plus, in my book. The food, Id say is delicious and fresh with preparation, presentation, and quality I expect for the prices. Mahogany Grill is not cheap, with most entrees around the $15-$20 mark, but you get good value for what you pay. I noted earlier reviews commenting that the food was not as good quality, so perhaps they have now adjusted their recipes and presentation. Check them out--you wont be disappointed!

My girlfriend and I just returned from a leisurely Sunday night late dinner and drinks at Mahogany, a restaurant weve only visited for lunch in the past. The food specials (1/2 price appetizers) were great and the drink specials were decent ($3.00 all-malt beer and $5 top-shelf bourbon) but our bartender was terrible. The bar was empty when we walked in and we had to wait 5 minutes for the bartender to even show up. Whenever we ordered anything, water, our beverage, dinner, we had to remind him at least twice before he processed our order. Soon after we arrived, a couple other patrons filled up the bar and they were ALL served their dinner entrees before we were served our appetizers! He was completely ignoring us the whole ENTIRE time.

A very upscale sit-down restaurant. Very unfortunately, they dont serve anything other than bread with an entree, so if you want a soup or salad, its going to cost a few extra bucks. However, the dip they have with the bread is great! As noted, the food is very good. The Ahi tuna was extremely tender and well-cooked, but didnt have quite enough flavor to it. The lobster bisque was very tasty on the other hand. Of course, once they show you the desserts, its impossible to refuse not to have one (the cannolis are amazing!). I thought that the decoration was very nice, a little dark, but still nice. Service was okay; it could definitely have been faster considering how few people were there, but it wasnt abysmal.

Not a family place. Tried to order sandwich for a hungry toddler. Asked for a chicken cherry sandwich without mayo, the waiter seemed to listen, did not bother to explain that the sandwich is the premade chicken salad on a bun, could not be done without mayo. Asked for something without mayo and not burned, no black marks. Waited for a long time, maybe seemed like it because the kid was hungry. The sandwich was served finally, chicken was completely burned, black on both sides, paid for everything, left the sandwich, went to look for another alternative to feed the kid. Horrible, regret the tip, regret going there.
