I came here for coffee once, they got snippy with me because I wanted to know what the special blends of the day were, shes like" were closing soon we dont have anything but regular coffee"..fine but it was cold. Crumbs all over the floor, ok first impression sucked, I wanted to like them. Went there at 6 45 closed...called the next day was told they close at 7. Get there at 6 45 and a topless punkrock girl wearing a skirt and bra was vacuming the rug (finally) in an apparent coffee rage with the music so goddam loud I thought slayer was actually playing there. She proceeded to freak out at me for witnessing her in her zen moment, yelling at me covering her unimpressive chest...I could barely make out "were closed!" As I ran back out and down to the dunkin donuts whos dark roast is surprisingly good and hot. And clean and open, and not a circus side show of you better get your s+!+ together soon, I realized I dont need to go to some hole in the wall shop for coffee if that is overpriced if thats how they do business. Other people will actually go out of there way for customers and for thier own reputation as a brand. But baristas are supposed to be snobs right? Hope they get the message. There may still be hope.

I work in this town and stop in occasionally for a cup of java if I dont have time to brew at home. I use the pour-over method for the most amazing experience in coffee brewing. With that being said, This place certainly is a local, popular gathering spot in town, but I dont know what all the rave is about their coffee. It most certainly isnt as bad as Dunkin coffee but it sure aint no Starbucks. I think The Black Cows problem is that they brew their coffees very weak, tasting watered down. Thats my opinion. I am a diehard Starbucks drinker and this place does not even come close. Ive tried different beans there and I have a difficult time differentiating one bean from the next. Their coffee is just too watered down, like Dunkin. Dunkin btw is worst anywhere.

I grew up in Croton and visit my parents here on a pretty frequent basis. The Black Cow is a quality establishment and something interesting to go to/to do in a town that has a shortage of places to just hang out. Quality of the coffee is generally pretty good (certainly much better than Starbucks, probably not as good as, say, Orens Daily Roast), atmosphere is good, chances of running into an acquaintance (for townies like me, at least) very good, etc. Full disclosure -- a friend from high school is one of the managers there.

I bought a bag of fresh roasted beans to bring home and a cup of coffee for there. The beans where ok. Maybe not the greatest quality. Not the full flavor I was looking for. The cup of coffee was good but I had to drink it outside on the bench due to the fact that it kinda smelled like pet urine in the store. The store was kinda old and tattered together with various yard sale pieces of furniture and such. Cute in a way but dinghy also. Im not going to rush back for more coffee any time soon.

The best. We love Starbucks , but the Black Cow is worth the trip from Yorktown for us every time. Great place with great atmosphere and excellent coffee and pastries. Super staff as well and the Croton River Walk is nice and close by too for nice days.

A fantastic local coffee shop where the beans are roasted on site by the owner. Different selection of coffees brewed daily. beans also for sale. Local artists exhibit their work. This sounds like an advert! but it is great...

Its okay. Bought a large stale cookie. Not the worlds biggest crime but how do you sell anything that is stale? Otherwise a good community meeting place.
