Im writing this on behalf of a friend. She went in here for lunch, and had an absolutely horrible experience-- when she walked in, the waitress rudely told her that the restaurant was closed, and while she headed out, the cook who was standing outside said that it was still open and the waitress didnt know what she was saying. Five minutes after food was served, the waitress brings the check and asks for payment as they were closing the restaurant. My friend didnt mind, but wanted a to-go box to pack the food, which for some reason didnt please the waitress, and she muttered something rudely in a foreign language. As my friend pays for her meal, she refuses to tip (understandably so, due to the poor service), the waitress asks for a tip, and after being explained the tip is not an obligation, and that she didnt earn it, she goes over how the bill was a discounted price already due to their lunch special, and my friend was somehow "eating for free", and "cheating the service". As my friend tried to walk out, she once again muttered something rudely in a foreign language, and told my friend to learn about how things work in New York, or go back to where shes from. (My friend is not an American, but she owns two very successful restaurants in Brazil, and knows better than most how a restaurant functions.) Dont make the mistake she made, and go to literally any other place, these people need to learn some respect.

horrible experience,...extremely, extremely rude, standoffish and poor service for sub-par food. ruined my afternoon. no wonder no one goes here! I went in one day and the food was decent and lunch special prices were great....went in the very next day, got the same thing and was told that they dont take cards after I finished the meal. BTW i had used a card just the day before. I mentioned that and the waitress proceeded to call me a liar, claiming they have a strict cash only policy (seriously what century is this?), threatening to overcharge my card, threatening to pull out security camera footage just to see whether I really used my card the day before, asking me to leave my stuff and go to a nearby ATM and finally, after i lost my patience, accepting payment by card, which didnt seem to inconvenience them much. Oh and the food went from decent to horrible too. And did I mention that the waitress was standoffish while i was ordering the food as well and only reluctantly argued to cater to my specifications after lecturing me about indian food. And I am Indian, born and raised!! extremely extremely poor service! Right before leaving, I told her that her behavior is exactly how you lose a customer, a guy who had come 2 days in a row. i live in the area and no wonder they are always emptier than a cemetery each time I pass by.!

It will be huge disappointing for chef of this restaurants that we have to give you this rating due to service. The worst service i had in new york. On Saturday afternoon, as mentioned here and also in restaurant, we went into mentioned time period which was 3PM. Suddenly, the lady (indian) manager probably, she mentioned us, our all chefs going on break you have to order now. If you have any breaks, why dont you mention in the timings. We were hungry so, we placed an order. After waited a lot, we received all out order at once. Normally, everyone likes to have appetizers first then main course then deserts, can you imagine, we got all on one table. After all it was not worst in the taste, so i wont complain chefs but that lady was so rude in her behavior that we never want to visit this restaurant again. We believe everyone should have breaks but why all at same time and if its like that, why not mentioning in timings. Huge unprofessional lady and restaurant. I wont recommend anyone at all. One more thing, after all we didnt like to even give any tip and she came back with bill and said , you have to give us tip, in my whole life i never ever heard this kind of statement.

My mother and sister took us here for a first time Indian dining experience for my husband and I. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. A little spicy for us, we arent spicy people, but the flavors, texture and servings were all excellent. Anthony, the manager, greeted us at the door and treated us like we were guests in his home. He was wonderful. He offered us each a mango lassi. We all refused, insisting water was enough, but he insisted and brought us back a delightfully refreshing thick beverage. It was delicious -- and he didnt charge us for it. At the end, he brought us all some rice pudding -- again, delightfully refreshing and delicious, and AGAIN, no charge. All in all it was a wonderful lunch, everything was fantastic, a definite good first experience for us. Our lunch choices: chicken tikki masala, chicken korma, byrini, chicken spinach and both plain and garlic naan. YUM!

Ate there 3/14/15 around 7PM. The food was alright, nothing special. There was a giant roach crawling on the wall above the table. We pointed it out to the waitress, she just responded, "its alright, well take care of it tomorrow," she specifically said tomorrow. It was about 2inches big, maybe bigger, just crawling around. They did absolutely nothing about it. A man, the manager probably saw me constantly staring at it and made a remark, why worry, its just a tiny roach. Okay, bill came, they offered us nothing, no discount or anything for the roach. In-fact we were taking our time packing and I purposely kept looking for the roach and the guy pretty much shooed me out of the restuarant so the other customers dont notice. When we left, they cleared and set the table, totally disregarding the roach crawling around the wall.

I have never been able to figure out why the restaurant, with such great food, is usually "empty". I think the problem is the service, which isnt so much poor as weird. I walk into an empty restaurant, literally empty - there are no customers. I walk in and one of the wait staff directs me to a seat. Where I sit waiting on my date. About 5 minutes later a group of three walks into the restaurant, and the wait staff places them right next to me. In an empty restaurant we are sitting about a foot apart. Why? And there are other instances of weird, somewhat apathetic, service, e.g., having to ask if they sell wine or beer, having to track down a waiter in an empty restaurant, etc. The food? The food is great! Chicken Vindaloo was wicked.

Asya is a solid 4 star restaurant in a 5-star neighborhood. What they do well, they do very well - what they are lackluster in... Well, you know. PROs: + Manchurian cauliflower was to die for! + Naan was served warm and fresh + Eggplant bhartha was pretty darn good as well + Very friendly service + Atmosphere was warm and inviting, and they had the patio doors open which gave a nice breeze on a cool summer night CONs: - The spinach cakes (I forget the name) were bland and flavorless - Wine-only bar My friends said they like their meat-dishes, but being a vegan I cannot speak on these. Apparently they have some lunch and delivery-only specials that sound pretty appetizing.

Had the tandoori chicken with appetizers & garlic naan. Everything was so dry, when we asked for any kind of sauce, the lady said that she knows its too dry but they dont serve any sauce. I would have to buy another curry item. Even that was very disappointing. The quantity mentioned in their menu was for two adults but the amount of food that they gave us was like for two teenagers. The worst part was that it was afternoon time & wasnt very busy but still the order was half an hour late. Same case for the two guys who came before us. In conclusion, dont go there with friends & family. Youll only be disappointed.
