Well, I am not usually someone who writes a negative review, but I was very disappointed in my visit today. After reading the reviews, I see I am not the only person who experienced, confusion when I walked in the door. Little disclaimer... I was referred to this restaurant by a friend who grew up in Queens & said this place was amazing & the best in NYC. So at that point I am so excited & ready to have this amazing food experience. We arrived at about 3:30pm, so it wasnt during peak hours. It took a few minutes to figure out who to speak with to either place an order to go or sit down to eat. Friendliness really didnt seem to be important to any of the staff until they were handing you your check. We asked where to go to stay & eat. The server said sit down. The table we sat at was full if crumbs. After we cleaned off the table, I ordered a small lemon soup, a gyro, my son had a pepperoni pizza slice, 2 waters & a $4 milkshake for dessert. Soup was good (not star quality, but decent). The gyro & pizza slice came out shortly after the soup. The pizza was nice & hot, my son enjoyed it (hes under the age of 10). My gyro was just a gyro. Nothing amazing, no reason to want to come back to buy another one. Just kind of cold & just a gyro. I will say that the serving of the gyro was a good size. I do appreciate that! Then we asked for the vanilla milkshake we told the server earlier we wanted for dessert. It was in a 20oz Pepsi paper cup. I opened the lid & it looked like melted ice cream mixed with milk in a cup. It tasted like melted vanilla ice cream, mixed with milk & extra sugar. I personally didnt like it at all, but unfortunately my son drank it before I could complain. It was gone in less than 60 secs. The server brought the check & said thank you when I handed it back so they could run my card. I received the receipt to sign & the server said you just have to sign & walked off. I tiped, signed & we got up & left. I felt like if I came back it wouldnt matter & if I didnt come back no one would care. I want to be clear... No one was mean or terrible to us, but no one made us feel welcome either. Im glad we were able to visit a historical sight in Queens, but I dont not have to worry about coming again or bringing friends back.

So once again I was craving my favorite place to indulge and out of curiosity I decided to read reviews. Have to say Im a little surprised but dont think most people write reviews unless they;re negative. Yes sometimes service sucks and it really sucks when it involves you but it happens and if its not a constant problem its not a reason to complain. Especially when the owners are nice and will take care of you. My husband and I have been driving there for 30 years all the way from Nassau County because you will never find a gyro of this quality and size (SHHHHH dont tell them. They have only raised their prices slightly inn the last 30 years!) ANYWHERE in the surrounding area. My husband has asked them a hundred times if they would PLEASE open a place near us!!!Amazing homemade gyro meat. Great pita bread. Sauce to die for (always get extra!) Generous salads and really dont want to admit as Italians but REALLY good pizza. Now that I started talking about them I know I have to have a gyro. See you tomorrow Fontanas. ALL the way from Nassau County. PLEEEEEEASEEE come to Long Island :) We have raved to everyone about you for 30 years and want all our friends to enjoy you too!

I have been coming to this restaurant since the day the current owner took it over (It used to be a donut shop). That was, I dont remember, about 30 or so years ago. I dont ever remember being disappointed with a meal. The food is great! The portions are large and inexpensive. You can even use the word CHEEP. It would still be a bargain if they raised the prices 25%. Their Gyros are the best I have ever had! And I travel to Astoria and all around NYC for work. Ive never had one that was better , even when I travelled to Greece! The grilled Scungilli is also very special here (Note: They get a new seafood delivery on Mondays. I dont know what other days they also have one). The worst thing I could say about this place is that their soup(Lemon Chicken), on occasion, can be a little salty (for my taste). Otherwise you cant go wrong ordering your personal favorites. This is the type of place that makes living in NYC special.

I love the fast service and the waitress is always nice. We usually get the souvlaki, and grilled or fried calamari. The lemon potatoes are better here than from two other Greek places Ive tried in Bayside. The rice and chicken soup and Greek salad that comes with the platters are also very good. If we order the two aforementioned platters, it comes with more than enough food that we always take home leftovers and the bills is a little over $30. If we order a couple of beers, itll be close to $40. Its the go-to for something quick or late night because theyre open until 12am.

There are about 157 places you can get a gyro in bayside. To me Fontanas is the best. The place is not huge so we usually order then pick up. On this occasion I just walked in and ordered. Gyro plater with rice instead of fries. 4 minutes and $12 later Ive got enough lamby goodness for 2 meals. The food is always fresh and the place is always packed. The staff is super nice and lightning quick. If you want some good gyro, souvlaki or pizza hit up the folks at Fontana.......Theyre famous ya know!

I have been here numerous times. The food is delicious. Upon stepping into the restaurant, you feel as though you have stepped into Greece. The chicken kabobs with tziki sauce is delicious. The spinach pie is good, as well as pizza (with a Greek influence). The lemon potatoes are delicious. If you order the platter, you comes with Greek salad and choice of sides. The Greek bread is well seasoned and grilled. Delicious. Super cheap. Cash only. Service is good.

Fontanas is one of my Favorite Restaurants Ever! ALL the food is Incredible! It is owned by a Greek Family and the majority of their menu is Greek food. But their Pizza is one of The Best in New York! The Place is clean and the employees have all worked there for years. I never see a turnover. Its crowded often but if you have to wait its a short time. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat. The Best waiter was Angelo he was there for Years & Years.

This is by far my favorite restaurant to come to for Greek food. You can tell all the food is prepared fresh and homemade. The friendly service welcomes you right away and you feel like home. The food is amazing, the portions are ginormous and all at an unbeatable price! What more can anyone ask for?! Ive been coming here with my family since I was kid and nobody in the family has ever had a bad experience. Definitely a 10/10
